it's almost as if the movie is depicting that Rose was the last survior to pass on from this world and thus now going into the Afterlife, she can be with her true love Jack and them and the other sprirts can finally rest. just a thought...

The more I think about it, I think Rose did die at the end of the movie and this is the Afterlife. When the camera pans around when she first comes into the room, they put special attention into the characters who died when the ship sank. And there is a deleted scene in the movie, where the little girl to the right actually died.  So to me, the fact that they show the girl here implies that they intended this scene to mean that Rose was in heaven. I hadn't thought about that at first.

I said she died at the END of the movie...in 1997. The movie starts with her telling the archeologist about the Titanic, and so most of the movie is essentially a flashback. But in the last scene, when they show her as an old woman in bed, she had died. And when she is on the Titanic again, she is in the Afterlife. Or at least that is what is implied. They kind of left it open for you to decide whether she was just dreaming, or if she had gone to Heaven.

Is it me, or does this scene feel like them finally getting married? What with her walking up an aisle, in a white dress to jack who's standing there and takes her hand? I've always thought that maybe this is them getting married in heaven -3

A very emotion scene, a first when I first saw this movie I never got this ending, but as the years passed, I understood, This time period was her life, when she meet Jack, she loved him so much, and always wanted to be with him, even in death, I am not really sure, if this is ment that she died, and she finally gets to see Jack, and all the people that she loved and remembered but this is a very emotion scene, when I first saw this, I cried because its such a beautiful ending.

@cesarMYERS I think this little scene is meant to show the elderly Rose dying and returning to Titanic and seeing all the people she loved and was close to on Titanic- I think the reason why the mother wasnt there was because she had a strained relationship with her Mum .

This scene is like Mufasas death on the Lion King. even if you show no outward emotion, inside you feel something. In this case its happiness that although the character of Rose has passed on she has found what she searched and waited for her whole life. She was with Jack one last time with all their friends on Titanic including Mr Andrews, Tommy and Fabrizio :) Good Ending, shot very well. James Camerons movies are just all epic.
