  • How could Tyson sack him? Rooney loved Mike!

  • Mike, why, why, why, ?? What were you thinking ?

  • Rooney achieved ZILCH once Tyson left him; that tells me he wasn't that good.

  • @tlig Or maybe the peek a boo/ d'amato style can only be mastered by special fighters like tyson. Cus, teddy atlas and rooney spent years teaching tyson that particular style which made him undefeatable. Once tyson left rooney, he lost his discipline and the style. With kevin rooney and minus don king piece of shit, he would've become the best fighter ever and broken rocky's record.

  • Tyson's very first fight after parting with kevin rooney was against frank bruno, which was the first fight were Tyson was noticeably rocked by a punch.

  • Of course 1/3 was an excessive cut. The real issue is that Rooney was key to training and preparing Mike - physically and psychologically. A smaller cut of a lot, is better than a large cut of a little. Imagine the prize money and sponsorship/adverts etc Tyson would have made in the 90s and 2000s if he had remained either invincible or at a very high level. As it turns out Rooney was worth the cut - 37-0 before the split with Rooney and after that Mike was less than mediocre

  • You can take the guy out the streets but you can't take the street out of the guy

  • lol Tyson looked like he was 30 XD

  • anyone know if they have any type of relationship now?

  • @sjewitt22 in a more recent intervirew rooney says, tyson hasn't called or visited him since he broke up with him. i find it really sad, because i think deep inside mike thanks rooney for his work but he thinks its too late because of ll the BS that happened

  • His accent is like mike tyson!

  • After D' amato died, Rooney is the only one left to take care of him and control him because Tyson was very young and will be a loose cannon without someone to take care of him. Tyson's biggest mistake is to hook up with Don King and Don King ruin fighters. Sad to think Tyson could have been so much greater....

  • tysons story is a picture perfect portrait of self destruction...he had all the right people in place put in by cus before he passed and tyson had to get rid of the catskill team and bring in all those idiot sponges

  • You're all right Tyson went to pot after Rooney. He didn't manage his fights anymore ..he would just go for that home run knock out punch.

  • I can't hardly believe that ANYONE would have doubted Rooney's ability as a trainer. Beng under D'Amato's wing for all those years and having the ability to make Mike do what he as supposed to do, there's no question he was THE man for the job. D'Amato was brilliant and he knew what he was doing when hired Rooney to pick up where he would ultimately have to leave off. Boy, I'll bet those sports writers were damn sorry after Rooney was gone!

  • Mike Tyson got blinded by the newbies that came with fame. He should have stuck with was he familiar with and who knew him when he had nothing. Kevin was the closest he would ever get to having Cus in his life. Cus and Kevin were a select group that truly cared about him.

  • @pattersonqueen reading everyone comments makes my heart hurt lol (sorry sentimental i know :( ) but its true... more and more i just wish i just wish that this didn't happen you know... but thats only a fantasy.... I wonder if Kevin and Tyson have talked i would like to see that video a reunion :)

  • Kevin Rooney is a brilliant trainer, tyson made a massive mistake getting rid of him....such a shame.

  • the day tyson fired rooney as his trainer, put a cap on his level.

  • The media tricked Rooney into taking about Tyson's marriage. Imagine if Rooney would have just said.."i'm his trainer,i don't get involved in his personal life" What could have been!

  • fair play rooney the second you went, tyson went downhill in the ring

  • This is cool. Thanks.

  • Looks like he spoke too soon .

  • Tyson never lost a pro fight until he fired Rooney. nuff said.

  • real talk-

  • Don King killed Mike's career He convinced Mike to fire Rooney and leave the Cus' camp and on top of that he supplied a shitty corner in that Douglas fight

  • he made lots of money with the don tho. but ya it sucks

  • When Tyson allowed the scumbags in and let go of Rooney that was the beginning of the end of Tyson being a championship caliber fighter.

  • From Mike Tyson's story, I've learned an important lesson about people:

Always surround yourself with positive, motivated people and remove anything negative in your life. Some people may intrude in your like (like don king type) and ruin something special for yourself, especially when it can be marketable

  • Beautiful statement :)

  • the worse mistake Tyson made was firing Kevin Rooney..he should have kept the white guys that made him what he became

  • yeah, then don king threw his goons in there and really fucked him up.

  • I don't think you needed to say "white guys", but ... you're right, it was his worst mistake... other than trusting Don King.

  • holy shit i had no idea this guy fought arguello

  • Man. If Tyson kept Kevin I think he would have retired undefeated.

Don King and his scumbags fucked Tyson.

  • he would probably still be the heavyweight champion.

  • 100-0 record; he'd be an ideal fighter

  • Man I wish Rooney would have stuch with Tyson. Tyson was unstoppable with Cus or rooney

  • Absolutely true! When Mike fired Kevin, he didn't have good coach anymore. He started to train with weights and got slower, he didn't move his head anymore etc. He didn't know how to train anymore.

  • Guys please vote in the pole i posted uder the description of the video. Its in upper right corner of the window... poll is about best boxer in last 20 years... and some ignorant ppl voted Manny Pacquiao as the best by far and Tyson as second... Thank you

  • The Manny bandwagon is pissing me off. Legends like Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns who were twice as good get kicked to the curb.

  • Are you talking about Manny Pacquiao? Manny is proving to be one of the best of all time. I'm starting to think that the only way to be good in your mind is to fight before your time because then you just hear the myths. With Pacman you see everything so you automatically assume that the old fighters are better. Pacman is the truth & there is nothing you can say to change that fact.

  • Check out the polls. When I looked at it there were 0 votes for both of those fighters and infinite for paq man. Anyone who thinks Manny could beat either of those fighters is an idiot.

  • bro, the only reason that you are so hell bent on Sugar Ray & Hearns is because they are the old generation & generations bow down to the generations before them, if you compare their fights & accomplishments, Pacman has already done way more in the sport than Hearns & Sugar Ray. You probably don't even watch the fights, you just know that Sugar Ray & Hearns are legends & automatically pick them. Go waist someone else's time.

  • Get off Manny's dick. Mayweather Jr. is also way better then him. Stop wasting your own time by posting dumb comments. Manny definitely does not deserve to be leading those polls.

  • ok then name someone who deserves it more, he keeps taking down weight classes left & right. I honestly wonder if you even watch boxing or if you just watch sportscenter

  • Bernard Hopkins is the best P4P active fighter IMO. Manny is only 30 years old. If he continues his success when he goes over the hill then he gets my vote in year 2019. He has the potential especially with Roach in his corner. I just have a feeling that when Manny gets beat he won't have the hunger anymore.

  • yeah I didn't even think of Bernard Hopkins but I can definitly see him as a great choice. The only bad thing about Hopkins is his 2 losses to Taylor & his loss to Roy Jones in which he never got a rematch. His win against Tarver was beautiful. If he were younger, he would have beat Calzage. He lost some big fights though & that is what hurts him in my eyes but he was & is a great fighter.

  • shouldv wouldv couldv joe owned him and his bitch

  • hopkins lol u fool jooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee cal zagheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • You look at paper too much. You don't know that mayweather is better than him, because they haven't fought yet. Now your comment about manny not being a P4P best GOAT until 2019 is off, if he beats cotto, beats jmm or mayweather after that, margarito, angulo, Mosley a fight or too more before 2012-3 then he'll fulfill his prime, and P4P best(of the time), after 2016-8 it'll be an old manny, he should retire on top.

  • yeah but the previous generation had alot of better fighters than this generation, the generation before that had THE best fighters in that era. Its just been getting worse since.

  • says who? All the commentators talk about how the 140 lbs division is as stacked as it's ever been before. The Welterweight division isn't getting worse, the heavyweight division is getting worse.

  • pacman has not he hasnt fought mosley mayweather williams

  • Who cares? He destroyed all the legendary fighters in his smaller division, Pacman moved up & destroyed to legitimate Welterweights, event hough one of them was 90% promoter. He's gonna be knocking out his 3rd welterweight in november.

  • pacman is nuffin on suger ray n im 21 u only see whats there today suger ray beat great fighters like haggler manny has never beaten any1 of his calibre it like manny fighting a small mike tyson he would be murderd morrales and marquez beat manny marques is better than him

  • screw sugar ray. Hagler should have won that fight and pacman would take sugar ray too. Overrated.

  • @BigSparky22 - Manny is only big in the philippines. He's good but nowhere in the category of the greats.

  • yeh, i guess its easy to forget that tyson was young and immature and listened to Don king the idiot. If he had a wiser head on his shoulders he would have ignored king and stuck with the man who was like a brother and a friend to him. that way he would have stayed on the right path and gone on to beat buster douglas, evander holyfield and eventually lennox lewis. such a shame.

  • and besides Cus, Kevin was probably the one person to keep Mike's head focused on the job at hand in the ring and keep him from getting his head and everything fucked up out of the ring.

  • Mike couldent improve after the Spinks fight because you cant get any better then Mike was at that time.

  • once Mike fired Kevin, Mike stopped bobbing and weaving and went for the kill with just one punch. and that also started Mike's demise after the Douglas fight.

  • agree@patrickdron

After Rooney and Mike split I began to notice Mike lose his form.

  • Yeah. Kevin was the best trainer that Mike ever had.

  • @patrickdron AMEN to you BROW..

when he fired ROONEY which was the mistake of TYSON'S life he was never the same

when he fought BRUNO in 88 BRUNO could have beaten TYSON he rocked him as he lost that ROONEY method of moving his head and stuff..

I STILL HATE tyson for this till this day. as i think if TYSON stuck with ROONEY he would have never ever been BEATEN .

he such a STUPID ignorant guy.

you thought he would have hired ROONEY in the future but stuck with b class trainers

    anyways HIS LOSS

  • Mike never improved after the Spinks fight

  • does kevin rooney still train fighter

  • trained world champion vinny pazienza and has a new fighter named Jay something or other right now. i went to college weith his son

  • does teddy atlas still train?

  • ive trained with rooney several times, any decent boxer or even amateur can go over to catskills bro, look it up, its worth it man

    peace

  • how is he? does he train well? he is one of the best trainers. i meen i live in dc

  • are they other trainers working with kevin?

  • yeh theres other trainers, mostly just past pro fighters, but mainly its kevin rooney

he trains real well, aslong as your at a decent level of fitness and have had some oxing experience i would recommend going up catskill for the summer or something

nothing to lose.......but alot to gain from it trust me bro

  • why did tyson get rid of him? i always thought that was the beginning of the end for tyson.

  • it was a don king move, don king gassed tyson up and made him believe he truely was the baddest man on the planet and didnt need kevin rooney, it gets deeper than that though, with kevin, tyson couldnt go out and party like a man in his 20's would want to, he was kept on a real strict schedule, plus, don king came with the black power thing and the entourage and fed tyson mad lies and bullshit, made tyson feel that kevin n co were using him n what not

    bad move by tyson man

  • I'm black and I agree that shit fucked Tyson up. Fuck Don King. All that Nation shit fucked him up. Everyone wanted a piece of Tyson. The Nation looked like a Nation of Idiots when they were with Mike. Damn they fucked Tyson up.

  • Probably rehashing what others have said here but I really believe that Tyson (under the influence of Don King)should never have fired Rooney, who was the only link left to D'Amato's teachings that got Tyson where he was. It's truly sad to see Tyson after he fired Rooney...when he lost to Buster Douglas his corner was so badly prepared they didnt even have the gear to minimise his eye swelling up. He stopped moving his head and using his mobility and really went downhill rapidly. A true shame.

  • Rooney cared about Tyson and boxing, Don King cared about no one but himself and money....Tysons road to destruction starts with Don King. It is unfortunate to see the turn of events post Micheal Spinks fight, Tyson would of been the greatest champion of all time if he would of stayed the course but instead surrounded himself with superficial friends and people directly related to his downfall....You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with.......ahhh, what could of been.

  • @MusicforMe123 its funny MIKE TRYOSN has never ever been asked this question on why did he fire kevin rooney?.

YET tyson gets asked alot of STUPID irrelevant question's/

tyson said when CUS died he lost it and thats BULLSHIT cus he beat TREVOR BURBICK, SpinKS, Holmes all in ROONEY'S corner and ROONEY was the closest thing to CUS.

when he fired ROONEY thats when he lost it.

he is too Ignorant to admit it.

I WAS a MASSIVE tyson fan back in the days

when he fired rooney i lost alot of respect

  • @italianoval Rooney was outspoken enough to get in Mike's Azz when Mike looked like shyt in training. He was a brilliant tactician but he had his faults too. The final straw for Mike was when Rooney started speaking on Robin Givens. That wasnt the asy situation to handle considering how evil the tramp was but she was still his wife and they arent too many real men out there that will let another man talk about his wife even if she does have some serious flaws. Rooney also got a 1/3 cut

  • @italianoval which was ridiculous. Bill Cayton got 1/3 and Mike got the other third. Trainers get 10%. Rooney got 33%. The real business savy fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones and Oscar Dela Hoya wouldnt even give a trainer 10%. They give them a flat fee. So even if they didnt bud heads about Mike's marriage they may have had problems about Rooney's cut. Rooney eventually went bankrupt from buying horses and shyt. Rooney had a interest in Mike like a Manager but Mike was his own man.

  • @CanvassBlack u talk out of ur asshole..

all tyson fans know when rooney was fired tyson was never the same

it was DON KING WHO FUCKED AND ROBBED TYSON U EGGHEAD

IF ROONEY ROBBED HIM WHAT ABOUT KING???

  • @italianoval How about this? they both robbed him... I agree Rooney was a great trainer but no trainer gets 1/3. Is easy for you to talk that crap but if you were making a living and you found out that someone took an additional 23%, you'd be pissed too. It's really that simple.

  • @italianoval Mike signed the contract because he was young and naive. Don King is one of the biggest organized criminals of all time. He robbed everyone; Ali , Holmes, Tyson. I loved Rooney inside the ring but he was still an arrogant overpaid prick outside of it. He overextended his finances(he went broke) buying race horses.Sure Mike was never the same but he still had a career. Rooney trained a few fighters after but he never found a fighter half as good as Mike nor did he ever get 1/3 again

  • @CanvassBlack ultimately it's on the person to decide what something is worth, 66% for brutal honesty and rugged caveman training is worth it, better than 100% to a lousy nigger like king.

  • @ShitWrangler yeah fuk them niggers. Not only are they great athletes, but now they want to run our damn country and fuk our women. What do they think they're equal or something?

  • @MusicforMe123 Rooney was outspoken enough to get in Mike's Azz when Mike looked like shyt in training. Rooney also got a 1/3 cut which

  • @CanvassBlack You are 100% correct. There is a fine line between professional and personal life, but when your personal life affects your professional life then Rooney should have a say so in the matter, but with Tyson, not to the public. You should always be on the side of your team.

  • How ironic that so many sports writers were calling for Rooney's head back then and then as soon as Tyson gets rid of him, they all said he should have never done that. Well, the proof is in the pudding. When Rooney was with Tyson, he retained the Cus D'Amato style and was knocking guys out left and right. As soon as Rooney is fired, Tyson immediately begins his descent.

  • He never should have left Kevin Rooney!

  • I think the reason Tyson fired Rooney was because of Don King. Tyson said in recent times that King used to teach him racist bullshit etc. which is why he used to say whiteboy etc in interviews and all that crap.

King convinced him to fire Rooney most likely as well as stealing millions from him. I hate Don King, he's a snake, a murderer and a fucking disgrace to boxing.

  • The last line of ur comment should be engraved on Don Kings Gravestone when the muthafucka finally dies!!!

  • History will be the ultimate judge... And history's judgement has been that Kevin Rooney and Cus D'Amato were the best trainers Tyson ever had.

  • True

  • i agree...But also if cus D'Amato stayed alive for few more years as well as jim jacobs Tyson would be way more popular then now and would be called The greatast w/o any doupt... them two would save him and show him the right way..he was too young. But i still think he is the best boxer that has ever lived!

  • @TheManIsHere23 Had Cus and Jim both lived, there is no way that Don King would have entered Mike Tyson's picture. Ever.

  • @TheManIsHere23 Wishfull thinking. About his popualrity. Do you realy expect boxing experts call Tyson the best ever, this while he lost against EVERY great prime fighter he ever faced?

  • @bcibibcibcpCB ur a douche

  • one of the biggest mistakes of tyson's career was when he split from rooney

  • Agree

  • Money talks!...and so does Don King's hair.
