Florence Jenkins had a mental illness; it wasn't anything serious, merely a kind of delusion or inability to see reality (this is something many fabulous rich people have i.e. Michael Jackson) She had exposure to mercury and syphilis. That made her think she was a good opera singer eventhough she was God-awful. So I feel sorry for her
this is a parody and it is well rehearsed. it is the finale of a comedy play. if you watched peter quilter's whole play "glorious!", you'd see that it is an hommage rather than "poking shit at someone". like with the real florence people were cheering, applauding, throwing flowers and celebrating by standing ovations in the end!
This is hysterical. An intentional parody on an unintentional parody. Peter Schikele is probably wondering why *he* didn't think of doing this. Piano gymnastics are brilliant! My voice hurts just listening to the end though.
it is the audio recording from a theatre play about florence foster jenkins, combined with still shots from the show/rehearsals. it is not only staged, it is carefully arranged and dilligently rehearsed!
I saw this show in Frankfurt; people were in tears laughing! If this show was really funny I imagine I would have died laughing if I had seen the REAL Foster Jenkins taking herself seriously while singing this!
true: it's from a theatre play about florence foster jenkins, "glorious!" by peter quilter. this is an audio live recording of the first german production of the play, put to pictures from the rehearsals...
hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! xD!!!!!!!!! I'ts amazing!!!!!!! congratulations for the graet pianist and his patient hahahahahahaha!!!!! LOL xD !!!!!!!
actually, I do have absolute pitch, but I am not even a "real" pianist - let alone, the best in the world...!
I'm an actor, who played the role of Mme. Jenkins' accompanist Cosme McMoon in Peter Quilter's play 'Glorious'. At least, I made up all these twist and turns and all the wrong notes, which means: the bad singing is quite well rehearsed and Doris did a great job on it!

LOVELY - but Mme. Jenkins sang it in Italian as "Gli angui d'inferno" (which only adds to the hilarity)

I guess it must be terribly hard for them not to laugh...!!!
