  • Your right, i was just thinking this... Our generation are fucking morons with no idea about real life

  • Wow you make some- the apt word? perhaps i can recycle- 'stupid' arguments here. Firstly, asking the audience to recall a 'good person.' This is not an ethical conversation, so the values of good/bad do not apply here. Secondly, this industry is dynamic. No longer is it a requirement that documentaries need to be dusty, aloft viewing- they can be used as a medium to drive personal opinion. It is pretentious of you to insist that they come in one, tiresome form.

  • @nashrafi That's a very fair point, however I think important issues should be dignified by the best documentaries we can possibly make. You might think I'm pretentious, however I think it is both pretentious and cynical for BBC commissioners to talk down to young people like me by insinuating that we can only understand people our own age.

  • @NBARRET. You make a very good point and observation but you have to remember that, as someone once said, the BBC Three is designed for the so-called "chavs" by "chavs". Someone came up with an idea of the BBC Three so that we all know what the so-called "chavs" are upto and we can keep an eye on them when they are not looting. Of course I disagree with such a statement or references to "chavs" but there is some truth in the idea that BBC Three cannot be compared to BBC Four which is superior.

  • BBC Three is a Stupid Channel which is clearly trying to prize away some of ITV's target market since BBC One and Two already have a clearly defined and well established older target market and have done for years so there is no room for Manoeuvre and Channel 4 has all the younger target market the BBC can't attract properly because they are too neutral and fence sitting for their own good!

  • Absolutely SPOT on!! She's not a journalist she's a presenter and yes she is patronising. I'm just watching the Thailand one and can't believe how fucking dumb she is with so few life expereinces. She patronises me with the way she talks about how hard the workers work.... Hello, people work that hard here for fucks sake!!!! She has no idea, she's a fucking idiot.

  • I have to agree it is a bit cringe worthy, if one is that naive in the first place, they can't then make valid opinions. I have met literaly 100s of people - mostly girls too I might add, that are so opinionated and driven by emotion without actually engaging the brain it worries me!

  • I also find the girl annoying and incredibly naive too, a real do-gooder and full of her little opinions! but have to admit she does appeal to younger generations and gives the locals some voice, but she should focus on the bigger picture.

About the fashion side of her, I have say in her defence it was marketed that way for the Blood,Sweat and Take Away series she was on, to enhace her change of attitude, not her documentaries.

Documentaries are only the directors views, nothing else.

  • I agree with you 100% - Dooley is patronising to us, but especially to the local people.

  • BBC isn't patronizing the audience at all! They've found a typical 21st century girl who was ignorant and opened her eyes. Which makes it relatable to people who wouldn't normally care. It's a smart tactic to get the views from the locals, because facts in developed countries can be misleading and falsified.

Have you ever stopped to consider that the young people of today see the world as their community, not just their country, and are more likely to act on it!

    I think Stacey is great!

  • Stacey would be an awful journalist but I think she's perfect for this show. It's not a documentary like Panorama is, I think it's meant to be a factual program that viewers won't find boring. BBC3's listings feature shows like 'World's Craziest Fools' by Mr. T - do you think anyone watching something like that cares about what some 'posh twat' has to say? Stacey is refreshingly common but not uneducated and seems to be a genuine person. Oh and she's also rather attractive which is no bad thing.

  • @lsk3993 So anybody educated and well informed is 'posh twat'! For the record I enjoyed 'World's Craziest Fools' by Mr. T as well as films by Adam Curtis.

  • @nbarrett100 Surely this proves my point then. Correct me if I'm mistaken but aren't Adam Curtis's films (at least the multi-part ones) usually shown on BBC2? Whether you like it or not, each channel has got a 'target audience' and while you may enjoy some of BBC3's shows, I don't believe you fit into that audience. If BBC3 does in fact think its viewers are 'stupid' then this show will certainly not have been the first to make that assumption.

  • @onearmedscissor2009 hey relax I was just expressing my opinion, I happen to think the obsession with having a 'target audience' is turning TV in to devise tool. I happen to find it annoying when films aimed at my age group are patronising and assume us to be ignorant, but if that makes me a moron....

  • Why, oh why, would anyone let this girl out of her own back garden?

She is a disgrace and an insult to anyone in UK with a brain,

Is this the BBC's idea of getting in touch with the youth of today?

I have to go cringe now.........

  • I hate her 'try to look interested' patronizing expressions.

  • stacey is a dumbfuck moron.

  • It's not all about making a 'good television documentary', I think you'll find that Stacey Dooley is doing these documentaries because she's passionate about the issues, and actually cares about the people.

She is not just a journalist, she's a humanitarian, and why should she try and be anything else?

I think you need to rethink your priorities if you watch her shows, and all you get out is that she's a bimbo.

  • Although it too has been dumbed down since I was an avid watcher, Blue Peter is more intelligently informative than this pile of turd! Anyone who enjoys these shows, please, I beg of you, if you are really interested on what's going on in the world, then follow the news and browse the web. Internet news is the best as there is no holds barred on what is selected to be reported. The control freaks above the tv stations decide what Is reported, and nothing is going to change that!

  • Basically BBC3 is the most hilarious TV channel ever created, mostly because we actually pay for this crap to be made (it does however beat 99% of this channel's material). The only thing worth a watch is Family Guy, which obviously isn't a BBC show! Before BBC3 got revamped (dumbed down) didn't people of their TA just watch and LEARN from the documentarists that were aimed at the much wider TA? There is no need for this channel and it's a waste of fee payers money. Also I find even now, althou

  • BBC is just a propaganda machine.

    Brussels Broadcasting

  • Oh and you shouldn't stereotype someone as stupid just because they like fashion.

  • @yeshowrandomalexis Well its hardly qualifies somebody as an international journalist. Its part of the patronizing nature of the documentary. The director expects us to think ' she likes fashion so she's just like me so I'll understand cause I'm a fucking idiot'. The whole thing suggests that young people like me (BBC three's target market) are too stupid to listen to experts and need idiots to relate to just to keep us interested.

  • *good to here it from another perspective. Stacey is doing an amazing job, these issues need to be recognised and she's going a good job at getting the message across. Would you rather her present it and the issues be recognised or it not be broadcast and everyone stay ignorant?

  • @yeshowrandomalexis I'm sorry this video pissed you off. However what bothers me is that we have thousands of young journalists trained to report international affairs and yet BBC three prefers to patronize its audience by intentionally picking somebody ignorant of the subject. As an informed journalist I take offense to that idea that young people can't relate to me and as a young person I feel offend that I'm not expected to be able to understand informed journalists.

  • This video pissed me off so much. Stacey Dooley presents these documentaries because she asked to because after her experience she wanted to learn more and show the public what really goes on around the world. She's never claimed to be a journalist, she just wants to open people's eyes to the issues around us. You may think she's stupid because she asked why the war started but some people watching probably don't fully understand why it started and also the press in england lie a lot so it's go

  • Good video

I hate the BBC, they patronise everyone!

  • does anyone no the song played at the end just before the credits come on

  • She can also show that 1 person can make a difference sometimes.

Yeah, it's not your average documentary, but i quite like the style. The voice over provides us with ample information about what's going on there.

Besides which, i don't think you need to take to heart her asking what's going on in the DRC, it's obviously a device to explain to the audience...

  • I disagree... i don't think the BBC are trying to be patronising at all. They know perfectly well that there are plenty of people our age capable of watching heavy documentaries.

What the BBC are doing is actually quite imaginative. Getting someone who isn't a journalist to present is the exact point: Stacey Dooley can give the documentary an empathetic edge, and present a normal person's reaction to the situation, which news journalists can't do.

    TBC

  • Well done sir...I hadn't even thought about this but thanks for bringing it to my attention! How can you go to a wartorn nation and not even know the political history. Also do you notice that they paid great attention to the part where she says "I love to hang out at shops and buy the world". Even in a "documentary" on serious issues they dont fail to glorify consumer culture. If you think spending money is a good thing you cant be intelligent and informed, at least from my point of view.

  • I watched the whole of that child sex trade documentary. It was so vacuous.

  • @comface i gave up after she turned up in Cambodia and said "I expected it to be all old school villages and that".

  • @nbarrett100 she is god awful!..clueless bimbo..i watched her tonight thailand..yea gods!

  • TV Exec: "Okay, so we pick someone for their *lack* of knowledge, that way they will have to ask the most rudimentary of questions as they relate to the foreign punters . The viewers can hear the answers the same time as the presen-... journalist!"

Subordinate: "Um, won't that insult actual journalists who could have done a better job?"

TV Exec: "Pfft! Who mostly watches BBC3: journos or young'uns? Exactly. Now, how about you pop out for my lunch - all this creativity makes me hungry."

  • @Intiom unfortunately that TV exec, Danny Cohen has just been appointed the controller of BBC one.

  • I saw this advertised and felt the same way as you. Remember to send over complaints so they get the message

  • I think they decided to get this young lady who's only interested in fashion, because as you say BBC3's main target is young people from the ages of 18 to probably mid-twenties. If they had a proper journalist, then it would be like any other news report or documentary, which you can get on Newsnight or any other current affairs programmes. To be fair, this is not widespread and in any case it also makes awareness amongst young people who might have no interest in current affairs !!!

  • @theworldvideos1 we're young but we're still adults, the generational divide is this country is big enough without bbc exacerbating it, we can't even watch the same tv anymore. And why do they have to dumb it down so much?

  • @nbarrett100 I'm guessing its because TV channels have got so much competition, not only with other channels, but also with the internet and other entertainment products. Hence why they have to diversify to get as much audiences as they can. I'm not really complaining about BBC3's coverage, because their channel is very lightweight for any current affairs programme. There are other channels, where I can view proper current affairs. So I'm not limited by choice anyway !!!!

  • I find the whole idea that anyone can simply be a "journalist" a fairly dangerous proposition (and insulting to actual journalists). There are even a lot of people online who call themselves that and shouldn't. Everyone should feel free to comment on the world and be heard by lots of people. That's a fairly fantastic thing that the Internet has afforded us.

But I would hate to see people get confused about "journalism" vs. "being some dude or dudette on the Internet with an opinion."

  • @Quag7 You'll find alot more real journalists online than you'll find offline.

Not sure if you're living in some sort of alternate universe
