the one thing i dont like about rosetta stone is, (after i tried their little demo) it seems a little...indirect. Like, it seems even tho i know what picture the words is referring to i dont know EXACTLY what it means. it doesnt tell you does it? well, it seems a little too expensive now anyway its like 550 dollars for japanese!
like that kid drinking water was a boy, okonoko. and the glass of water was mezu so you think
okonoko = boy
mezu = water.
and then you know it, kinda like how you learned english as a baby with those books ^.^ ロゼッタ石から私はこの事実を知った , and yes my grammer is probably off if its translated into english somehow. hahaha.
You slip up is the equivalent of saying is english.
Bear instead of beer.
See the difference? If youw ent upto a friend and said "Hey wheres my bear?" You'd get some weird looks. Pronunciation is extremely important in any language.
@blingythingy1994 That's one of the best things about Rosetta Stone is that they don't tell you the translation. Without translations, pictures makes you think and memorize through those pictures, rather than words. I'm guessing this was directed for international use. When you were a baby, learning your first language, your parents didn't compare English to a different language
True, but babies are not using Rosetta Stone. I imagine adults with fully developed/motivated brains would be using this program. Therefore, I assume they would learn faster than a toddler learning their first language.
Oh, and i really wouldn't mind because thats just like free advertising. Here is a true example: My friend torrented this game called Left 4 Dead. I saw him playing it and liked it, he can't play online because it's a crack instead of the game. In result, both of us paid for the game so we can play online against each other.
too bad im only 13 and still live with my parents cuz i realy want to learn japaneese and to get a torrent they would know something is up i barely got away with torrenting halo and since rosetta is $550 for one language...you get the point right?
maybe more people would buy it if it weren't so excessively expensive. it would probably be $100 cheaper if it weren't for that stupid 'used by nasa' sticker...
TO EVERYONE THAT CANNOT AFFORD PLEASE LEARN ABOUT TORRENTS AND FIND A TORRENT DOWNLOAD IT AND INSTALL ROSETTA STONE THATS WHAT I DID AND I GOT THE SOFTWARE FREE IF YOU WANNA LEARN ABOUT IT PLEASE MESSAGE ME yes i am a real person its just that this software cost toooooooo much and all you have to do isn go to piratebay(dot)org
no they dont arrest ppl, but i personally know someone who had to pay a rather large fine for illegally downloading music, granted it was a large amount of music
um do we hav to by the thing or is there a website who gives the lessons for free? cause uh im a little short on the money train trrrry all the way at the bac and i RLY wanna learn japanese so if u could be nice plz tell me
Buy "Before you Know it deluxe edition" and its accompanying product "Language Now" the Japanese versions.
Don't waste your time with Rosetta. They advertise that you learn "as you did with your first language" which basically means "we won't teach you the basic grammar rules of the language or even what these individual words mean. I hate rosetta stone and how much time i wasted trying to learn Arabic with it.
At first the speaking exercises bothered me because of having to repeat but after the first little lesson thing I was already able to recognize some kanji and comment on stuff around me. Now it's fun, especially since you're not really doing it for a grade. I think I have had it for... 3 days so far. ^_^
Sorry to say, but no it doesn't. It only provides a superficial glimpse of the language only enough to get a young kid interested in learning more about that language and then take classes to get more of the in-depth knowledge.
I went through the complete two parts of Arabic (almost 150 hours) and I don't feel any better off now than before, esp since RS doesn't teach the basic grammar which would really help.
Now I am using "Before you know it deluxe edition" and find it a great (and cheaper)
Rosetta stone is joke.

This may as well be a commercial, there's no negatives stated even though there ARE negatives to this program.
Commercial vid is a lie.

true, but think how long it took that baby (Womb time counting since you can hear in there) to learn even rudimentary first language.

Cops don't arrest people for illegally downloading music and programs. They have more worrisome things to handle, such as, oh, child pornography.
