hey guys i've just got civ IV and i cant install it. it tells me to install Deamon tools i did that but what comes after that. Please tell how to install the whole game reply if you know.. Thanks
It’s my own fault that I don’t know where to look on screen for the odds you’re reading while deciding how to deal with the Aztec axe unit. I couldn’t figure out the combat system, so I’ve only played Isabella with “No War.” I hope I can figure out combat when I am next able to play. … I just read your explanation of how to find the odds: very clear. Thanks for showing that it can be done.
Why dont you build at least a small navy? I usually build small or medium sized navys (I build bigger ones in the industrial era) So that I can at least send some galleys to send troops in to flank them and fortify right next to the people im at war with cits, so that hopefully they will try and attack me and waste there forces. And also for the blockade bonus.
yeah the comment about the noise is well founded ..hard to call this high tech when there is a fan runni9ng 98 db under the desk ..I know better vid cards have and add fan noise ..Why some idiot hasn't built a remote head and jammed the majority of the computer box in the attic ,closet, basement or at least the other room .fan noise is not high tech it's up there with an open window or sittin on the porch
My first 3 videos, including this one (my first), were all done on my laptop. Once I got a better machine, I started doing LPs on the desktop. You should notice a tremendous quality improvement in the boudica video.
Do promotions "stack" as they go up higher levels of the same thing (for instance, do you get BOTH a +25% and a +35% bonus from City Raider I & II), or do you only get the benefits of the highest level? I have been trying to figure this out for a while, but I could not figure out how to turn on showing combat odds...
I do believe they stack based on some promotions having the same percentage bonus as the lower level one.
To see combat odds select the unit you want to attack with and hover over the target while pressing the alt key. Your estimated odds show in the lower left hand corner.
Learning a lot from this, I agree with the spies thing but also the collateral damage as well. Spies are great for taking a city quickly but chances are slim if there are counter spy measures in place. I like how they worked spies into the game for BTS expansion, probably the best thing they ever did, it adds a whole new element to the game.
I'm enjoying this. You're doing a good job coming back at Monty after he took that city. I realise now I'm leaving civil service way too late in my games. That's something I can work on immediately.

is there a map maker/editor in this game?
jcinq01 1 year ago
@jcinq01 The map editor in Civilization is World Builder. Start a game and hit control W or escape and choose it from the menu.

Wait, 2 questions,
Question #1
When you found a city, not including the special tiles like bannanas and such, does a city automatically take advantage of the mundane tiles or no?
Question #2
If you create workers do you have to micro them to make roads, and micro them to take advantage of special tiles within their cities range?

2.Depends

Thanks for the promotions tip. You really showed how it helps when you counter attacked montys stack that moved next to the captured city.

you just have to select your attackers and -hold- the right mouse button over the enemy when you go attack him and you'll see the combat odds.
should you decide not to attack him, just let go of the mouse button on the exact tile your units are in (so that they don't move/attack)

Do you ever use spies to destroy city defenses, or always just catapults? :/
ViceCommando 2 years ago
I use spies a lot when going heavy on mounted, since siege can't keep up. I also use spies + draft rifles sometimes.
Usually though collateral is worth it, since it's a dominating force in civ IV warfare in general.

is it pretty much the same as civ 3?? besides some minor improvements??

I'm working on it now...hopefully it's a bit better after part 13.

I'm really enjoying these videos but the audio could use work. It's a little quiet and there is substantial noise/hiss.
