@ChineseAtheist The A330 was cheaper to initially acquire only because of illegal subsidies granted to Airbus that significantly damaged the US aerospace industry. The total lifecycle cost, which includes fuel burn, maintenance, building mods, etc., was higher making the Boeing aircraft the lower cost option. So your statement that the A330 is cheaper just isn't true.

BTW, the Boeing was the lowest cost in the last round too after the GAO corrected the AF's errors in their evaluation.

The propaganda war on subsidies/jobs/.. was only started in order to make pressure on US politians, to force them to take the Boeing 767. Airbus only gets cheap development loans - which they have to repay, Boeing gets direct subsidies. However, the issue of illegal subsidies has nothing to do with a concrete contract.

India, Saudi Arabia they all took the A330, the Airbus also won in the US. so the politians changed the criteria.

@ChineseAtheist U watch India and Saudis will cancel contracts and China will order quite a fuel because is better plane with better milage + the experinced builder air-refuelers. Also the A330 has only one engine suppliers + Trent engines have a tendency to explode in mid-air. I don't care about nations, I believe in capitalism. It is a lose-lose situation:

Airbus has lost a contract for a good plane. The US does not get the cheapest product (which also would have created jobs in the US) Boeing has to deliver the tankers until 2017 and cannot win because of a rather low price. Boeing is already pressurde by Dreamliner and 747 delays, so this makes no sense.

Protectionism helps politians but it destroys efficient markets. NATO just hurt itself.

Boeing Airtanker with better milage, saftery, endurance + defensive + offensive weapony. I don't care about Airbus or Boeing. I just noticed growing protectionism, which is bad for the world economy.

In the longterm both Boeing and Airbus will lose market shares to Comac/AVIC, especially when they get the false contracts like they did. (Airbus could have made a profit out of the contract, Boeing cannot)

Comac unites western technology/know how (Honeywell, General Electric) with an efficient Chinese labour force. Hopefully, this will made planes and then flights cheaper and better!

That would be like China ordering its new stealth plane to be built by the USA. Its easy and fashionable to hate and crtisize USA for any thing we do. @ChineseAtheist According to the Pentagon, the Boeing offer was less than the Airbus offer by more than 1%. How do you come to the conclusion that the US didn't get the lower cost airplane?

The A330 is a good plane, but it was the *wrong* size for this mission. It's just too big and burns too much fuel.

@ChineseAtheist Cheap development loans, as you call them, are only available to Airbus. And yes they have to repay them, but only if sales targets are met. If sales fall short then the loans are not fully repaid. The WTO ruled that EADS got about $20B in illegal funding while Boeing got about $3B.

Airbus "won" the previous competition only because the USAF screwed up the evaluation. The GAO voided the award because of it.

Deal with the facts.

Bought the company and RETIRED THE KC-10 in favor of the inferior and aging KC-135. They haven't made anything new in the last 2 decades, and aren't about to even with the contract.

Boeing's been in the tanker business since the 1950s jackass and they offered the AF exactly what it asked for and for. The boeing cfo? Airbus has more currupt officials on its payroll than any company on earth. This was a no brainer - should have been boeings the entire time.
