There was originally 125 Spartans (I think), but after their training, and their DNA modifications, the number got reduced to 30+, the rest either died, or works for ONI, as although no longer being able to fight, those people were geniuses. Slowly though the war, 1by1 began to fall. By the time they reached Earth, there was only 4 Spartans (i think) left, Master Chief and 3 others. The other 3 was shipped off to a distant planet, read Ghosts of Onxy. There was Spartans-III there too.

if you have a spartan available, always have them hijack the enemy tanks or strong vehicles. Also if you have a downed spartan, it doesn't take much energy to just station some troops around the spartan to save them.

You gotta love the spartans in this game. Your just sitting there, all of a sudden you see three spartans come charging over the hill, one's holding a portable turret and is mowing down your infantry, the other just took out three of your banshees with the spartan laser, and the third just took over your wraith.
