  • what model?

  • Got damn theres only two things I love in this world, a Cat and Peterbilt.

  • This is in Richmond right?

  • Jake brakes use back pressure from the motor to slow down the the rpms on the motor which will slow down the crank which will slow down the drive shaft so you end up going slower without using your brakes...this is good cuz you dont end up getting your brakes hot..becuase when you get your brakes hot they pretty much turn into butter and dont work anynore,,,but a jake brake will not stop you..it just slows you down...

  • nice try, stage 1 jake shuts down 1 engine cylinder, stage 2 shuts down 2 engine cylinders and stage 3 shuts down 3 engine cylinders.

  • stage one or low cuts cylinders 1and 6, etcetc. each setting controls two diff cylinders not one

  • and if u got a hill to go down u cant b riden the breaks cause they will heat up and then not work

  • Why is it called a Jake brake?

  • because a guy who made it was named jacob, and it helps slow the rig down by shutting off cylinders like brakes do.

  • I like it so why use that instead of the brakes then? Can you use it at the same time as the brakes or is it like a second brake?

    Thanks

  • Truck or Rig brakes are controlled by air pressure or PSI. WHen you use your brakes the PSI goes down, and if u run out of PSI then u have no brakes :( So if u use the jake, the psi doesnt go down and ur slowing down :).

  • your not gonna run out of air as long as there is nothing wrong with your truck....and if you did your buttons would pop out and your trailer brakes would lock....the fact that using your brakes makes you loose air just isnt really true..and if it was its still not the reason we have jake brakes...not trying to be argumenative here but im assuming your a driver and i just think your either mistaken or you drive junk equipment...one or the other

  • I am not a driver yet. I have 2 more yrs before i can obtain a class A license. But i have riden with my dad and cousin on numerous runs and i am not mistaken. When you use your air brakes they do heat up and loose some air, never enough to make you lose your brakes of course but it does happen. When your brakes heat up, we use the trailer brakes (the thing that looks like a turn signal lever to the right of the steering wheel)

  • you can use the air brakes all you want... till they heat up and fade out on you. the air compressor always kicks in and keeps the two or three air tanks constantly full of air. at around 120psi the compressor shuts down till you use some air up then... it starts over again ensuring you never lose vital functions. like brakes some wipers and the most important thing......the air ride seat lol

  • oh really, well why dont you ask a trucker who has had to use the truck ramps because his brakes go out from overheating loss of air.

  • overheating and loss of air press. are 2diff things thats wut im sayin. ur brakes fade when they get hot as to not disentegrate. you can hit the foot brake but no brake action occurs. the slack adjusters and s-cams still actuate. if you got no air then its an air system prob then ur fuckedd.

  • it,s a johnson bar
