  • I live in Australia, & we have nothing like this!!. Sure we have plenty of steam action during the spring/summer months between September & February, but nothing like this on a narrow gauge railway. We do have standard gauge mainline action in April, namely the Maitland Steamfest in New South Wales. It's worth a visit if you come down to Australia. Please check out our rail museum sites. You'd be most welcomed by us steam-mad Aussies. Cheers.

  • Brings back good memories. Took the family on a ride from Antonito to Osier and back this summer. Love riding that narrow guage steam. Now I need to figure out how to get a ride on the 844 or the Challenger.

  • Actually SkipW, the term in the title would be 3 mid-train helpers, not a triple header, cuz the engines aren't all at the front of the train. It's a common mistake, but then you don't see too many mid-train helpers anymore.

  • I stand corrected, not thinking correctly as I had a bad case of Narrow gauge steam fever

  • @SierraRailway ummmm just to throw my 2 cents in, this train has a lead loco with 2 mid train helpers.... I think we are all just giddy with this great video. I have to get there very soon myself. :)

  • its always good for one to get some steel underfoot. Another railroader foaming before he goes to work tomorrow

  • one day i want to go see them in action but i live in australia which kinda makes it hard

  • They are doing it again, Oct. 24, 2009

  • I am so very sorry for interrupting again.

This really is one of the very very best videos of steam locos.

( putting silver tape around my both hands and walk away from the keyboard )

  • everything above 3% is steep and need helper locos I believe. ( but ofcourse don't know, just loose information in my head )

  • You are right! and this indeed is a 4% grade going up to Cumbres Pass east out of Chama

  • one of the best rail rail videos as it doesn't

    need commentary...the flim talks.

    Thanks.

  • @Daffodilish Better than SEX! (It lasts longer.)

  • the smoke deal is for cameres and tourists

  • thats for sure this was a special fall photo freight and it was far more spectacular than the regular season passanger runs

  • now why can't all the other train videos be like this; the rest all have crappy narrations instead of hearing the locomotives and the signals. 5/5!

  • Thanks glad you enjoyed it, I figured if your watching the RR lines on the inet you have allready researched them on google earth, wikipedia, books & magazines. So You just have to see and hear them Steam On down the Line!

  • very. very. very good. note 1.000. The best,

you see my videos (movies) for trains?

  • must be a really steep climb .... great sound

  • upto 4% in places i belive

  • Thanks,absolut fantastic!!

  • Very great and very long video! 5*****

  • 16:24 is another best part

  • hope 483 operates someday so the CTS could do a quin header railfest

  • Also, if I understand it right, white smoke is when the coal is burning right (hot), black smoke not ideal, grey is ok. You can see each of the engines go through these temperature stages if you watch the entire video. At one point I saw one of the engines was so hot the plume was colorless and the emergency exhaust valve was constantly wide open. :))

  • That was one HOT little tea kettle I noticed that also, A real Bonus in my opnion & sure Hope they do this again

  • Found it!!! Search for 'NKP 765'

  • What an event! What an atmosphere! I was eating spaghetti and looking for videos of Big Boy or the Berkshire. Started this video, jaw dropping, stoped eating, food turned cold, had to throw it away. Chewed tobacco instead. And thank you for mounting the cammera on a stand so no shaky amateur video. Gorgeous landscape.

I'm from Sweden so what do I know .... but I thought those looked like Consolidation Locos, to me anyway.

Anybody found video of real Berkshires?

  • they are 2-8-2 mikados...cold spaghetti...ugh

  • Don't they have microwave ovens in Sweden?

  • @MajSolo What, no microwave ovens in Sweden? Pop down to Ikea and get one....

  • Exellant vid bro. faved

  • schönes Video 5 Sterne

  • Best train video I have ever seen. Well, best video period. Will this video be for sale? Maybe donate some money back to C&TS?

  • That`s great!

    Iluveit.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!

  • at 14:08 the scenery gets even better

  • Awesome video! Just wondering, how did you get a video on here that is longer than 7 minutes? Mine always get deleted. :(

  • Youtube once allowed 60min or so videos to be uploaded. Then they updated and only 10 min vids are allowed, if anyone signed up before then, they can upload the full 60min while anyone who signed up after can't.

  • awesome
