  • it was ok i could do all the things he did blindfolded

  • The Beast and the Harlot Drum solo is 10x better than this

  • @AlexJasso100 Its faster, and has more double bass, but doesn't take as much skill to play as this does, so tbh your completely wrong..

  • @Mafiacultgeno911 and who asked you? i was just stating my opinion ps you're wrong

  • @AlexJasso100 im a buge a7x fan and i love beast and the harlotbut there was really no need for that compliment this is way diffent drumming then the rev and endurance wise beast and the harlit was but technical wise its a different story just cuz ur a fan of 1 person doesnt mean u can compare him to a totally different drummer thats like a travis barker fan

  • @enjoichoclate5 huge*

  • @enjoichoclate5 they're both solos and the A7X one is 10x better. TBH this sounds like my 3 y.o. nephew when he plays drums

  • @AlexJasso100 idc if u think best and harlot is better u shouldnt bring it up in the middle of no where beast and the harlot has got nothing to do with this video and this is more of a jazzy funk solo not ment to be fast no disrespect to u if its not ur tastw but dont diss it its still good

  • @enjoichoclate5 Im a huge A7X fan too, and even bigger rev fan, but im telling you, ask any professional drummer and they'll tell you that when it comes to all-around drumming, Dave Weckl is light-years ahead of the rev. Plus the beast and the Harlot solo sounds badass i know, but when you learn how to play it its pretty boring

  • @Mafiacultgeno911 im supporting ur side... tell that to alex jasso hes the 1 who doesnt think that way

  • @enjoichoclate5 oh yea my bad i meant to reply to him

  • Comment removed

  • who saw the smiley ?^^

  • And this is why he influenced a whole generation

  • damn...that was nice :D

  • bassdrum-sound outta hell of doom *_*

  • hello 240.. How's things? I don't wanna see u any more m8......

  • 60 people think Travis Barker the world's best drummer

  • MOAR COWBELL!!

  • I'll bet Dave Weckl could rock some gospel...

  • @weed940 oh ya no doubt both are great drummers

  • who cares what race you are anyone can learn to play the drums it all depends on how good you are and the qaulity of your sound it just so happens to be that the top 10 drummers are prodomenately white

  • @kyledave14 but guys like chris coleman and aaron spears are good too :D

even if my favourite drummers are white except for LP Parson^^

  • Pearl are sooooo over-rated. Get TAMA or Ludwig or Gretch. Best 3 right there. Pearl can fuck off. you ask anyone who knows little about drums, whats your favourite drums,,. 9-10 will say pearl. Pearl sucks, tama for the win !

  • @J3LLI0TT acyually i prefer pearl. It all really depends on the sound ur looking for. i like a full deep sound with a strong attack a little bit of sustain and my pearls gave me exactly what i wanted. i think with the right heads and tuning any mid-high quality drums can produce a great sound

  • Needs more cowbell!!!

  • Looks Confusing...

Anyway, can anyone tell me a good drum set to get? Im 11 and i am new to drumming to can i have ur advice?

  • @BurnoutParadiceROCKS PEARL is always good

  • @BurnoutParadiceROCKS dont get Pearl... Get TAMA or Mapex or sonor. but definitely. No Pearl. And for cymbals: Look for MEINL because Cheap zildjians sound like shit compared to cheap Meinls.

  • @wendepic Pearl are the best non custom drums you can buy! your on crack dude. All companies have a good set for different applications. as far as cymbals go Im a fan of sabian because theyre more glassy sounding then zildjian. if you look at my kit. its a lower end pearl i use in my vids. It sounds great! kick is fat. snare is poppy and toms are deep and warm. the way I like it. it all depends on what you want.

  • @Kyleatsworld1 I have 3 sabians on my set and 1 meinl which is cheaper than these 3 sabians and i like it alot more.

  • @Kyleatsworld1 Still best lower and mid and high end cymbals are made by meinl and i had a pearl and i really didnt like them.

  • @Emagik77 ----- your a dumb racist and you can't handle the fact that, for the most part, it's all equal when it comes to who's good, who's not, who's invented what and so on. And for the record... buddy rich IS without a hint of doubt the number one drummer of ALL time. That's, for your information, IS so far, and will ALWAYS be the best. He alone progressed drumming more than any black drummer to this day with maybe the exception of the now number one tony royster jr... and thats the truth.

  • Awesome

  • that is a small drum set :P

  • @Emagik77 what about rap? you guys created it, then destroyed it.

  • Emagik has a point , I was watching elvin jones , and max roach solo vids, and people were shitting on those guys , forgetting some of their favorite guys took those techniques from the black drummers they hated on, I dont agree with rich being number 1 ,however my top dude is white (joe morello) I also like steve gadd , and I also get down tony williams elvin jones max roach art blakey and kenny clarke etc

  • @hobadahee....I'm not racist, I'm just exposing the fact that white drummers get all the credit for being the top ten best drummers in the world, and that's a damn lie .I can say that there are only about five drummers that aren't black that I would give some credit for being in the top 20...but best drummer is not a white dude homie!

  • @Emagik77 i'm with you on this.

  • smh does he even use all the drums?

  • Politics is why you have people like Weckl, Rich, Gadd, Peart, Bozzio etc....at the fore front of drumming, those are drummers with the financial backing to put themselves in the eye of the public, if you put something in the publics face repeatedly of course they will think there aren't or weren't any drummers greater than the above names.....why do you think drummers like Travis Barker get so much praise for his drumming?....although he's beyond mediocre , he's not top 100... Politics and mon

  • @jackmarr95....huh?...between 1890 to 19 80 we got no credit for our drumming, that was the most racist times in america, we weren't being beating at nothing except politics, anything you hear a change in music 9 times outta 10 we're the ones responsible for it, but then as usual you guys( the white)steal it and make the world think y'all invented it

  • @Emagik77 you're a bitter, angry, racist troll.

  • lovin the hair

  • 51 people think that Travis Barker and Joey Jordison are better.

  • black guys play better, we changed drumming, buddy innovated it we perfected it

and get no credit for it....just like the deepest form of music, jazz we created it and perfected it and still the white boys get all the credit...rock and roll too but when you ask a poll of people who the top ten drummers of all time are they name all white boys.......smh

  • @Emagick77 Skin has nothing to do with how well you play.

  • @Emagick77 You can create a trend and still be beaten at your own game!

  • @Emagick77 That's pretty racist man, skin has absolutely nothing to do with drumming.

And im pretty sure there are many, many famous, really amazing black drummers out there, so chill out.

  • @hobadahee

why dont you name some of these amazing black drummers.

  • @samtotheg Ok, there is Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Kenny Clarke in BBB, Bill Cobham, Dennis Chambers and so many other really good drummers.

There is also Neil Peart, John Bonham, Mike Mangini, Steve Vai, Mike Portnoy, Dylan Elise, and so many others.

Look, I'm not going to sit here and list all of these phenomenal drummers so i can say you're wrong.

But just try to relax, and it's about the music. Not if you're black, or white.

  • sure wish the sound quality wan't shit.

  • oh man, i gotta practice hahah

  • hmmm...6/10.

  • @cheapochap you are officially retarded........

  • the deal is, if you can't find the soul and rhythm in this, you're a fucking moron.

  • i wanna a drumset who sounds like this without mics

  • that is some badass drumming.

  • Great playing dave but the 80's called and they want they're mullet back

  • pfff, you can also do that whit 2 trums, the beat doesnt even make sence.

  • @grabbelbabbel maybe.... but there is also something called rithm you fucking spade..............

  • @anisnej10 Fuck you and the rithm, It just doesn't make sens. And his face expresion is like he is doing something great, but it is like shitt.

  • @grabbelbabbel

He probably could do it with two drums ...

That's just his kit. Don't be mad that you aren't running what he is.

And also ... the beat he's playing makes perfect SENSE.

Go listen to your "Devil Wears Prada" or whatever.

  • What a noob he keeps missing the crash on the one....

  • probly the most boring drum solo ever

  • Dave is the most fluid drummer out there.. he is especially stunning if you know good drumming from bad. Lay people think Tommy Lee was a great drummer... LOL

  • @aegisgfx What I like about Dave is he is a true improvisor. I haven't heard him repeat much of anything in all the times I've seen him. So he's doing really crazy shit off the top of his head and executing it super clean. Very fluid yes, but he suffers the occasional groove lapse. For incredible fluidity and mastery of groove and time, I gotta go with Jeff "Tain" Watts, although he's a totally different style. What's has the ultimate metronome in his head.

  • this video will convert no one. go check out his solo in "got a match" (part 2)

  • Wow! Weckl is still around? Good to see he has a following still lingering. Still sounds like he has timing challenges.

  • Odd thing about Weckl is his timing might've actually been better when he first hit the scene in the 80's. I've seen him many times. When he's on, he's on. When he's off, he's off. I think he suffers from the occasional lapse of concentration. Might be he's a drum scientist who is reviewing what he plays as he plays it which distracts him for a millisecond. His art is his art and he can execute/evaluate on the fly if he likes. Either way, I can't name a fusion drummer with a better sounding kit.

  • @CribNotes he is in time, he uses a type of drumming called linear drumming also remember there doesn't have to be four beats in a bar.

  • kinda sloppy eh?

  • thx dave for helping sabian invent the best cymbal lin there is - the hhx evolution!

  • 48 People can't play a single stroke roll.

  • @ThePhodut

I dont even know what a stroke roll is but I liked the video anyway.

  • @ThePhodut 47 people dont know what a stoke roll is

  • @Robobbly Make that 57!

  • @ThePhodut hehe :)

  • his set is orgasmicccccccccccc

  • hmm... I dont know anything about drumming but I dont like it :/

  • Anyone can sound good with a huge ass drum set like that.

  • @PaulAnthonyFearon Says a person that knows nothing about drumming.

  • @swu1987 Seeing as how I fucking play the drums I think I would know a thing or two about drumming.

  • @PaulAnthonyFearon Well then I'm shocked you'd make such a dumb comment. It doesnt matter how many drums are in a set, that doesn't give you rythm or talent. Granted, this sin't the best solo or anything like that, but he obviously has some talent. Just because there are more things for him to hit doesn't mean he'll automatically sound good.

  • @swu1987 When you have a lot more things to hit it's a lot easier to sound good. I'm not saying that this was a bad solo nor am I doubting that he has talent. I'm just saying that any drummer with rhythm and talent can sound good with a huge drum set. I know I would be able to play much better beats because of a wide variety of pieces to hit. Most or maybe even all drummers would agree with me.

  • he's in time....this is Weckyl...listen closely...you don't need a beat on 2 & 4 to play in time...tap your foot, but don't get lost in those crazy fills and rolls...he's a clock

  • no, its in time people

  • this isn't even in time *troll face

  • Syncopation rools!!

Weckl, Colaiuta & Donati are 3 MASTERS of this that spring to mind...

  • So much delicious mullet.

  • @0Lewis0 not as good as his one in the 70's! check out a vid called king of drummers. it'e a three way drymm-off between dave weckl, vinnie colaiuta and steve gadd. i tend to describe it to my friends as "drum porn" :) anyways dave and vinnie have the curly mullets from hell in it!

  • i would much rather hear tony royster play only one handed then to listen to dave ever again.

  • Never heard of him. Billy and Buddy had more talent in their early teens that this joker!!

  • whooa! what is that he does at around 0:20?

  • 3 amasing drummers in no perticular order

    Dave Weckl

    Heracio "el Negro" Hernandez

    Benny Greb

    legends...

  • lol @theawakener7...don't you mean a kazoo?? not a gazoo, gazoo is a little annoying green alien.

  • @theawakener7 True. Saw Buddy play at my local high school when I was 17. Unbelievable technique. He had another drummer playing next to him, and while he was good, you're could hear the added crispness in Buddy.

He came out on stage and ask us what we wanted to hear. Everyone started yelling out their favorites. Buddy replies,"yeah, we'll play those and some stuff I like". Played for over two hours. I remember it like it was yesterday. Doesn't seem like it's been over 20 years since he died.

  • @TheHazaboi1

Not necessarily. Sometimes the downbeat is in odd places. Some phrases are multiple measures long, so the drummer may syncopate the rhythms and not land on 1 til the phrase is finished. Usually only skilled drummers playing with skilled musicians can pull this off, because if you go off on a tangent for multiple measures, the other musicians may lose count of where 1 is and that's your job as a drummer, to keep the time for everyone. To answer your second question, yes I am.

  • I use this guys full brown drum sticks. i love em. wood tip. just right length, theyre not super thick, and theyre light for quick things :)

  • He holds his left stick like a retard good drumming although

  • @brettos10 that's traditional grip.

  • @superjam18 ooh lol

  • @brettos10

    are you a fucking retard?

  • @jaydendrums111 no >.<

  • @brettos10

lol well he holds the stick like that because he was most likely a marching drummer. Its called the 'traditional grip'

  • @brettos10 wtf are you even a drummer? lol

  • @brettos10 hey bro, that "retard" way he holds his left stick is called traditional style. id love to see you try it on a drum set one day. it will make you feel like you have no fucking clue what your doing.

  • Man Travis Barker could wipe the floor with this noob

  • @77Uno77 noob? really?

  • @77Uno77 ... You are really serious, aren't you? Hahahah!

  • @77Uno77 hahaha travis barker couldn't even wipe his own kit down properly let alone a real drummer.....hahaha what a joke...

  • hah! I have the video this was taken from. On VHS no less :-P

  • great drummer, hhx all the way xD

  • One of the Masters!!!!

  • good god... thats phenominal

  • wait, wait, wait. Hold up. For those of you that think that this is off beat, try to wrap your mind around some Benny Greb. Watch his clinic solo at Memphis Drumshop.

  • I think I just jazzed in my pants

  • Its really too bad that people don't seem to understand the concepts of polyrythm or poly-meter. Pop and rock have become so rigid on mainstream radio that people have never learned about all of the creative tools musicians have. Dynamics have been choked out of popular music... its becoming dressed up white noise.

  • damn, that mullet does die hard!!

  • hes not out of time idiots hes out of the box

  • He was out of time once or twice but overall it was awesome

  • @mwnt9999 its called playing over the bar line. not out of time...just more artistic and unexpected.

  • @mwnt9999 no he wasnt twat this is dave weckl you think that world class will go out of time? its over the bar idiot thumbs up if you agree

  • Yeah, people who are saying he's not playing in time, keep an eye on his hi-hat, it's keeping the beat the entire solo

  • Did anyone else notice the smiley-face in the cymbals at the beginning? :D

  • This is just what drummers do without the rest of the band... Think John Bonham was amazing playing with Led Zep, just imagine how he was solo O.o

  • just realized i use this guys sticks.. the brown ones with regular wood colord tips... i love em,. perfect length thickness and weight :p

  • dennis chambers beats him

  • If any of you fan boys think this cat can't play, you haven't a clue what you're talking about. It' s Dave Weckl. That's all that needs to be said. If you don't know his name, you ain't a real drummer.

  • d'_'b

  • That big of a set seems a little excessive. I like it when people can use a small set and make it sound awesome

  • So fucking sweeeet groooooves!

  • suck

  • why are people that drum always seem to be hating on other drummers when obviously the people talking the shit suck scrotum at playing drums. they are all like " OH IM SUCH A DEEP DRUMMER CAUSE I LISTEN TO TOOL!!!!111!!!!, AND I AM SO GOOD EVEN THOUGH IM A DIPSHIT WHO CANT KEEP RYTHEM BUT THINKS IM AWESOME!!!!!!!!! DERP DERP DERP DERP"

  • That hi hat very shiny !!!

  • yeah everyone here that says hes not playing on time or has good potantial but doesnt use it or somting needs to go away ive been listening to weckl since i was five and im now fifteen and hes one of the best independent drummers out there

better than carter in my eyes.

  • Marching snare technique on drum-set? ( On left hand ) Come on people, take drum lessons.

  • @Zachriah1

And what's the problem with that?

  • shes a brick house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha!

  • EXCELLENT! DW! EXCELLENT!

    *MIKE SPENCE.

  • SUPER JAZZ!

    *MIKE SPENCE.

  • COOL JAZZ MUSIC!

    *MIKE SPENCE.

  • JAZZ MASTER! OF JAZZ MUSIC!

    *MIKE SPENCE.

  • I went to one of his clinics a few years back. He is an amazing drummer but my god he is such an asshole

  • dam, this guy has a style...

  • LOL at ALL people saying, "He's not playing in time" or "He's got potential but he doesn't really play on beat" or "There are even some jazz drummers who are good." WTH are you smoking? Ever heard of syncopation? Polyrhythms? Not everything has to land on 1! Right, you only listen to rock and pop, and you think Travis Barker is the best drummer. Dave is a legend and a phenomenal drummer. Also, every established jazz drummer could play many other styles with ease. Rock is easy compared to jazz.

  • @jwatanabe90 not necessarily. It depends on the drummer, for rap or hip-hop then yes. its shit. for rock, no, alot of rock drummers know their stuff, and about travis Barker, yes HE is terrible. But don't make a generalization of All Rock drummers, for an example check out Chad Szeliga from breaking benjamin, just search on youtube "Chad szeliga jamming" it should be the first one. Thanks not trying to be rude :)

  • @chocolatecookie5

I'm sorry if I appeared rude or seemed to generalize rock drummers as "bad." I just was appalled by two comments I saw. Rock is actually my preferred genre, it's just I think that guys like Weckl, who plays a lot of jazz, can play any genre they want with relative ease. I know who Chad is, he's an incredible drummer, as is Daniel Adair of Nickelback, who is surprisingly sick despite sticking to simplicity while playing with one of the most hated bands of all time haha.

  • @chocolatecookie5 Travis Barker is not terrible he adapted to the music that is topping charts nowadays, not any diffrent then the ones you stated in their time....

  • @MrBubbles416 no i'm saying it from a critical view, he has no control, nothing different from any other drummer, he has high strokes, and speed. thats it. nothing new from Travis Barker. But if you were to look at him from a normal perspective then yes he's o/k. But me, being a serious drummer -if your going to watch any of my videos, watch the newer ones on my bands page, if you want the page name i'll tell you.- But me being a serious drummer i look at every drummer in a critical way. Sorry?

  • @chocolatecookie5 Tell us to look at your page, go to it, first drum video - SKILLET MONSTER drum cover. How about a big fat no.

  • @8xXOctavariumXx8 I SAID MY BANDS PAGE MY DRUM COVERS are bad, look up shadowsofregret1

  • @chocolatecookie5 It was meh... I'm not a serious drummer... if by serious you mean I take my work seriously. My band has work on my page but you won't like it based on your vids. It's either noise or drone.... or folk. But I do everything.

  • @jwatanabe90 YEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! I Agree!!!!

  • @jwatanabe90 You sir, are a hero

  • @jwatanabe90

i dont think that rock is easy compared to Jazz...

  • @jwatanabe90 ya you also forget buddy rich could blow him out of the water with only 1 stick...the best rock drummer has to jhon bhonam but he has syncapation and will actuallly swing things cough cough fool in the rain cough cough

  • @jwatanabe90 haha amen man every fucking genre is easier then jazz even tech, death metal.

  • @jwatanabe90 Technically I agree you, though there are some interesting rock drummers, Sami Kuoppamäki for example. I don't think the difference is so much in the style of music itself, when comparing jazz and rock, since both can be played the "difficult" way as well as easy. Early jazz wasn't even too fancy what it comes to drumming. Hard played rock could start sounding messy if you "mess" the rhytm too much.

Contributing as guy who listens both jazz and rock =P

  • @jwatanabe90 Uh, anyway, Dave is the man =P

  • @jwatanabe90 Rock is literally the easiest style to play. Pop drummers are actually beast.

  • @jwatanabe90 Damn i think you and the people who agreed are the only smart people on this video out of the 375,000+

  • @jwatanabe90 Damn i think you and the people who agreed are the only smart people on this video out of the 375,000+

  • @jwatanabe90 i love you and all the other wisdom spreaders on youtube who give me insight in the highest rated comment section. thank you

  • @jwatanabe90 Def - All you have to do (if you're a real drummer and have a good clock) is tap out 16th notes on your thigh, and you'll FEEL the groove!

  • @jwatanabe90

    Holy Right
