I never gave this game a shot because my friends kept saying how bad it was. Then I went to a pawn shop that was having a 'buy one get one free' sale on PS3 games. Got LBP and this. Played it. And decided my friends have no taste in games, as this was so much fun!
I just picked this game up.. I really want to play it.. But I guess I shouldn't because PSN is down and I won't be able to use the analog sticks.. Great.
I love this game, but to be totally honest I wouldn't pay full price for it. I'm glad I didn't, the game (as others noted) feels unfinished. When you reach the end of a level the screen simply freezes and fades out to black. Sometimes the graphics have minor issues, and there are a couple of other small notes I can't recall at the moment that just took away from the experience that Lair was trying to give.
Still, I love this game, and love dragons. Wish there were more dragon based games. ^_^

I don't see why anyone hates this game. If a different style of play isn't right for you, then why play the game in the first place? Personally, I get insanely tired of playing as "yet another human character" in every single game. The fact that the gameplay in LAIR focuses on the dragons is impressive, and it works, it's fun, and it's SOMETHING NEW. Get over yourselves, if you don't like it, don't waste your money.

People hate it and it got bad reviews because Factor 5 have a reputation of taking consoles to their abousolute technical limits... Look at Star Wars Rogue Squadron on the N64. Now look at Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 for the Gamecube. Rogue Squadron 3 was the only Gamecube game that had 20 million fully-lit polygons per second. The level of detail varied at distances though but you never noticed this. The ps3 is several times more powerful than the Gamecube and can do much more. Factor 5 failed.
i must say i hated lair cuz everyone hated but this game doesn't look bad at all. Consider when it came out and it seems like a good game. Heck I wouldn't mind seeing a lair 2 i would give that game a chance this time.
the main thing that discourages me from playing this pretty decent lookng game is that it seems like everyone just absolutely hates it. but from what im seeing right now, it looks like an interesting game mechanic thatsup to par with a title like dark void for example, room for improvement, but still playable. Its kind of funny that they have a download in the psn store that allows u to take out the six axis controls in this game. I guess they were not good at all. maybe ill rent it though.
The SixAxis was super-fun, I guess it was too much of a learning curve for a lot of gamers. But what caused most of the problems was the fine line of doing a 180 turn and dashing forward. Sometimes the controller got confused and did the opposite. But if you specifically flip back without jolting the controller forwards while doing so the dragon will do the 180 turn.
Even if you're hesitant, this game is definitely worth your time to try out. I myself only wish there was more.

One of the best games I've played; it came out in 2007, and now there's still no game out that matches it graphically on either console; It's also the only game that Graphically Crysis could give a nod to over Killzone 2.
I liked the story it kept me interested, the dragon fights were fun, reaking havok on the ground against soldiers was epic it showed how powerful dragons are, the detail on the environments, dragons, and creatures were very well done. The only thing that sucked was the controls during flight. If only the game had the analong stick, with the choice of using the sixaxis. Anyway good game for the early days of Sony's PS3.

Dragons are just the Japanese interpretation of dinosaurs, they both stem from the same concept. The fire breathing nonsense was just tacked on for dramatic effect, at least thats my guess
@skankinruby Actually, Komodo Dragon's, which are the only surviving dragons alive(Besides Bearded Dragons), had an organ that was of unknown use inside of the stomach itself, are far as they knew it had no use, but surmised it had a use in the older generations and assumed it was something badass like fire breathing.

I just bought a ps3 about 2 months ago have uncharted 2, lbp,mwf2,motorstorm1 and infamous I just bought lair there was a buy one get one free deal so I bought lair and armored core 4 and people said lair sucked so I tried it lair in one of my favorite games on the ps3 I had more fun with lair then I did with resistance 2 killzone 2 resistance 2 had so many bugs in it hated it killzone 2 had good graphics but got bored of it fast

This game got horrible reviews but actually pulls off many things well. Graphics (played on SD), sound (just as good I'm sure) and yes, even controlls. I still think the sixaxis standard handheld angle is wrong and it could be widened up a bit for left to right and tightened up and down. All around the dragon needs to be quicker in response, not respond faster. Kudos..

Cuz this was the very first ps3 game and my very first movement control experience on a console... I had NO problem with the controls at all. I pulled off the fabled "impossible u-turn" in an instant, and is actually my most used command in the game. It's because of dimwitted hiveminded peabrains like you people that keep insisting that this game sucks that killed this game and it's developer.

@10191927 Wrong. Factor 5 had to close due to it's publisher, Brash Entertainement, was having financial problems while they were working on a project and that ended up hitting them hard. It had nothing to do with Lair since the game's publisher was Sony.
Lair flopped only because people are too mainstream to think for themselves, I'm not ignoring it failed, I'm actually protesting to it. Because people like you have no grasp of things and rather live on other people's opinion to "fit in".

Factor 5 are SOOOOOOO up their own asses, they don't even let people test their games first, so they end up releasing sub-par products that should/could have been better.
It all started with Rogue Squadron 3 for the Gamecube, they screwed that up big time too and they've never learnt.
They hate it because of the controls. The game forces you to use the sixaxis controls when flying your dragon. However, they recently added a download that lets you use normal analog stick controls to fly your dragon, but it's still pretty difficult to fly him.
@Distrepolo they think the idea of the game is fantastic, but the only problems are the controls, that its based on motion, they think that if this had analog stick controls this game would have rocked! thats why they don't like it, the story and gameplay is just fine its just the controls are a big issue.
It's a good game, it was just covered in glitches. Didn't they patch that?? It's a shame how hated this game is. Whats funny is that this could never be pulled off on the 360 lol

Ived played this game, but it was quite easy..... i mean some parts are hard but you just have to know what the enemy is going to do. The only hard parts ive encounterd so far where the Sea Snake and the Spider Wasp.... the Battle with the Mokai against the assilyan in the Desert was pretty tough too.. allmost finished it and i have it for like 2 days. Awsome Game though!

This game was terrible... In order for you to be signed into PSN while playing any game that has a patch released, you must download that patch. If you don't, you can't play while still being signed into PSN.
i really love this game and if i do say so myself the graphics system is amazing but the thing that bugs me the most is the control sceem i meen its very frustrating to control the dragon when u have to move the controller all over the place but other than that id say its a very awesome game...oh and btw i mean this has nothing to do with anything but like how can you beat that level i mean in my opinion ud have to be pretty skilled lol

Riding a dragon was interesting, but just imagine a free fly lik GTA with good graphics of surroundings. Well, this is far from that.

why the hell do so many people hate this game? its not mind altering but its definitely fun. ive gone through it twice and probably will again. considering that games like halo can sell like crazy im guessing i can no longer trust fan reviews

Cuz this was the very first ps3 game and my very first movement control experience on a console... I had NO problem with the controls at all. I pulled off the fabled "impossible u-turn" in an instant, and is actually my most used command in the game. It's because of dimwitted hiveminded peabrains like you people that keep insisting that this game sucks that killed this game and it's developer.

@clawofthefallen Um. The reason a game and a studio failed is because the game and the studio failed period. Look at Duke Nukem Forever. Did that fail because of my, and other peoples comments as you claim is what made Lair fail? No, it's because the studio for Duke Nukem failed on a game with big promises that did not deliver, and they failed as a developer because they could not deliver other content. Lair is a failure for a reason, you choose to ignore it.

@10191927 Wrong. Factor 5 had to close due to it's publisher, Brash Entertainement, was having financial problems while they were working on a project and that ended up hitting them hard. It had nothing to do with Lair since the game's publisher was Sony.
Lair flopped only because people are too mainstream to think for themselves, I'm not ignoring it failed, I'm actually protesting to it. Because people like you have no grasp of things and rather live on other people's opinion to "fit in".

@10191927 People have this very big misconception that games are made for them and that developers owe them something... Well, they don't. It's an industry. Lair looks incomplete because it was rushed for the ps3's release.
The truth is that this game was very unjusticed. Lots of reviewers praised the game in every possible way except the excentric controls. People are too unsecure on what they want to rely on reviews and only get what other people tell them to. Causing this sort of injustice.

@skankinruby I think the reason they dislike the game is because it's so linear, of course halo is rather linear as well, but it has sci-fi guns,vehicals and a crappy story line to boot!
So of course halo sells well. Stupid new generation of brats only want FPS games, it drives me positively nuts that the population of people who possess the ability to appreciate a good game is thinning out.

People hate it because its made by Factor 5.
Factor 5 are SOOOOOOO up their own asses, they don't even let people test their games first, so they end up releasing sub-par products that should/could have been better.
It all started with Rogue Squadron 3 for the Gamecube, they screwed that up big time too and they've never learnt.

They hate it because of the controls. The game forces you to use the sixaxis controls when flying your dragon. However, they recently added a download that lets you use normal analog stick controls to fly your dragon, but it's still pretty difficult to fly him.

@Distrepolo they think the idea of the game is fantastic, but the only problems are the controls, that its based on motion, they think that if this had analog stick controls this game would have rocked! thats why they don't like it, the story and gameplay is just fine its just the controls are a big issue.

yeah it haves option but it automatically uses the sixaxs, to turn it back to the joysticks, u have to go on option to turn it off.

Ived played this game, but it was quite easy..... i mean some parts are hard but you just have to know what the enemy is going to do. The only hard parts ive encounterd so far where the Sea Snake and the Spider Wasp.... the Battle with the Mokai against the assilyan in the Desert was pretty tough too.. allmost finished it and i have it for like 2 days. Awsome Game though!

This game was terrible... The controls didn't respond too what you were doing, and the time you had to complete a goal in is just a nightmare... which you'd usually fail in a few minutes time and then the big red screen comes up saying mission failed and the goddamn music (DUNNN DUN DUHHHHH) >:( this game is downright disappointing to the PS3 I'd give it a 4 / 10

i really love this game and if i do say so myself the graphics system is amazing but the thing that bugs me the most is the control sceem i meen its very frustrating to control the dragon when u have to move the controller all over the place but other than that id say its a very awesome game...oh and btw i mean this has nothing to do with anything but like how can you beat that level i mean in my opinion ud have to be pretty skilled lol
