Why does this seem like a channel for retarded geeks? Don't get me wrong i'm TOTAL geek myself, i just think it's dumbing down the average geek. What geek doesn't want to read or work things out for themselves? i thought that was the premise for being a geek.
The current Batgirl is my favorite right now, and Birds of Prey is pretty amazing to. It's a team I suppose, but team of woman. In fact, it that vain, we had Birds of Prey once upon a time on TV, but despite my belief that is was much better then Smallville, it didn't make it. :-(
Elektra got her own film :) but yea I defiantly agree that there's needs to be more solo-female movies. i mean, batman, superman, spiderman, hulk--they all got their own films! we need some more strong-willed women out there fighting for all glory and justice...or even a movie about a woman villain would be pretty sweet too. there's plenty of them out there, I just wish Hollywood would dip into that source already. it's a hot lady fighting, you're bound to make some money off of it.
I really wish there were an Agatha Heterodyne: Girl Genius animated series. Especially if there could be a campy what-on-Earth-were-they-thinking crossover in which she meets Dr. Doom. Because I'm kinda lame like that. ^_^;
Anywho! I'll be following this series with interest. Keep up the good work, fellas.
@FurikoMaru - If you dig us, feel free to donate a few bucks via PAYPAL to KistlerAlan@gmail.com. We could use the support to continue this series. And tell your friends! Fun idea with Agatha, btw. :-)
Top of my head: Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Huntress, Rogue, Stargirl...Hmm, there's a distinct preference to DC there.
Challenge is too easy. I'll up the difficulty: no headliners and none listed in the video: Dr. Light II, Namorita, Cyclone, Little or Big Barda, and Polaris.
Despite it being a "team" comic, I'd like to see Birds of Prey as a movie, with cameos.
Additionally, all anyone needs to know to understand Twilight - it's based on a woman's wet dream, and the main character isn't a plot device so much as an audience surrogate for females in the audience to project themselves through.
@ChaoticButterfly which is why i am a complete twilight virgin :D as soon as it became "standard" for all girls to read it, i lost interest in wanting to have anything to do with it. the dude in this video asked "do you think you would yell at her for not standing up for herself a little bit?" i wouldn't yell at her, i'd probably slap her. i think it's an insult to all fighting hot superheroines for bella to even be inculded in the same category as them.
@lemonsnickers1 I can't blame you there. I wouldn't slap her, or yell at her. Everyone is different, and if that's what she likes, more power to the character. Even superheroines have moments where you want to smack them down in their history somewhere...except maybe Big Barda, cause she is awesome. A superheroine AND a housewife. ^_^
Girl don't really read comic books. Yeah some do but the vast majority of comic book readers and writers are men and boys. Target your demographic that is all.
@sentienceISi Not true. Like Amber Benson mentioned, attend any given Con these days or walk into a comic/geek paraphenalia shop and the gender split is pretty solidly 50/50. And I think the number of male Buffy fans blows the theory that DudeBros don't want a series with powerful women clean out of the water.
Firstly, seeing Amber Benson always makes me happy. She's fantastic.
Secondly, anyone who bashes Bella Swan is awesome.
Thirdly, I'm just starting comics and the portrayal of women has been relatively (and surprisingly) good. I had been led to believe they were objectified; I will admit their bodies are stupidly out of proportion but they only slightly beat men's bodies. There are still wonderful and complex characters created and I'm so glad it's recognised. :)
@MeaDawn - Well, of course! I grew up with a couple girls as great friends and as a kid I was thrilled by Ripley killing Aliens and Sarah Connor fighting Terminators. So I never understood why you wouldn't look at women as kick-ass heroes in the same way you look at male heroes. Be assured, this topic will be revisited a few times. - Alan
X-men female characters don't really count bc they are a part of a team. and Batwoman and Spiderwoman don't count either bc they are just female versions of the orginal male stars.
@Batmary21 - That's your criteria, not ours. With that strictness, Captain America, Wolverine and the Thing are not super-heroes. Also, although Batwoman emulates Batman, she has different motivations, morality and methods. Likewise, Spider-Woman acts nothing like Spider-Man, is a govt. agent rather than a crime-fighter, has completely different powers and has no connection to Spidey other than her name. She didn't even know there WAS a Spider-Man until they met. It's not like Batman & Robin.
well marketing wise more guys watch superhero movies than women and men respond and relate better to male heroes, but people are becoming more exposed to the mythos and its only a matter of time until we see more superhero women on the big screen. Oh and u forgot Huntress.
Thanks for talking about Black Canary and the lack of female superheroes. It's sad that they don't get the same representation as the male ones in the media.
Amber Benson was awesome, I'm definitely gonna buy Death's Daughter! And thanks for reinstating my faith in geekdom and my hatred of Twilight.
@Lekta - I think Twilight is lame, but I don't hate it. My hatred is reserved for those who take it WAY too seriously and who think Bella is a strong character. Those who read it and are upfront that the story up there with trashy romance novels (which is why some of my friends enjoyed it), eh, whatever. People can read what they want, just be honest about what it is. :-)
Thanks for watching. And Amber Benson is indeed awesome. Be sure to watch her second interview with us! - Alan
@Yarbols - Because at the time we made this, Huntress did not have a title of her own and wasn't regularly appearing anywhere. Everyone else we mentioned fit that bill.
Max from Dark Angel, Sara Pezzini from Witchblade, Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sydney Bristow from Alias (She is quite super, you have to admit..) and Echo from Dollhouse. And this isnt even including the old school female superheroes like Wonderwoman and Charlies Angels...
I'm oh-so-jealous you got to interview Amber! I've met her, but I didn't speak too much - I was sooo shy. I love Death's Daughter, it's an amazing book. :)
This is just awesome, thanks for bringing up the topic of the lack of female superheroes. Male superheroes are just boring so I can't understand why they've gained so much space in all areas.
wow i love the great break down of females i now feel like im just scraching the surface thanks.
