while driving a criminal offence seems a little severe. I believe texting while driving can be an aggravating factor in a criminal offence such as vehicular manslaughter but on its own does not merit a criminal charge. I myself keep my phone in the front console of my car so that I know when messages/calls come through and can read them when I stop at red lights. If the message or call is urgent enough I pull over to the side of the road and answer. Do you think even having a phone in such a

The idea of presenting your commentary as a newscast was very original and kept me interested throughout the video. I think it is very obvious that texting while driving is not only irresponsible but dangerous. I support the fines that are implemented when an infraction of texting while driving is committed, but I don't believe any additional punishment is necessary unless multiple infractions are committed. Your suggestion of a suspended license is a very reasonable one, but making texting

Loved the idea of a news broadcast!! Very well put together!! I agree with your point on view. Texting while drive is dangerous and put in risk the life of the driver as well as other drivers and pedestrians. The thing I want to know is if they are better ways to implement the no-texting and driving rule other than giving out fines?, as I feel it doesn't really change anything since people will pay the fine and do it all over again.

Nice vid, I found it amusing. In anycase just DONT DO IT! Is it really that hard to not touch your phone while driving? I personally find it more difficult to text while driving then to not PLUS I'm not at risk of getting a 100-200-300 dollar fine! Not to mention its not just your safety you have to show caution about but the safety of others. Dont put yourself at risk and more importantly dont put society at risk. I agree this law should be enforced again DONT DO IT!

zishan - i can totally relate! something similar to that heppened to me, and i was shocked afterwards. Is texting really more important that potentially hurting or killing someone?

jackie - thats actually a really great idea! I think that people don't realize how serious texting while driving is and that solution would most likely make people realize how dangerous it really is.

I really like the way you presented the issue of "Texting While Driving", it kept me interested whilist watching. Also i thought that interviewing a wide range of students and a teacher as well, lead to many opinions but showed that everybody had the common view of that texting whilist driving was a hazard and wrong. I agree to your ideas on solving the problem and that a suspended sentence is a good punishment when the offense is repeated. Good job :)

Firstly,I thought you guys did a wonderful job on way you guys presented the information! I truly feel sad that after so many laws enforced we still have issues with texting and driving.I remember back in grade11 I was walking of my bus,and group of students started to cross the road when it was clear,and this man was on his phone and he almost hit me,but he hit the breaks and just waved and drove off,and this was during when the law was enforced.The solutions you guys listed,Iagree completely!

It's great that you not only interviewed students about this topic, but teachers as well (Mr. Christie); it shows a variety of opinions, ranging between youth and adults. Great job guys, i love the way you incorporated a news team into the story. I really agree with the points made in your video. Texting and driving is extremely dangerous and hazardous. Not only is the person texting putting their life in danger, but also the other drivers and passengers on the road. Your alternative solution to this problem made a lot of sense to me, and I thought that it was very rational.

Great video! This is a relatively new law and issue; cellphones have become a part of our every day lives! There are many great points and I agree with the solutions that "Bob" spoke about at the end; "3 strikes and you're out."

The consequences of texting while driving need to severe. Do you think it would also be worth looking into rehabilating those who are repeat offenders? There's a theory that many of us are highly addicted to our cellphones and can't help ourselves. i.e. "Crackberry"

@jacquelinejanas Good question Jackie :) It is true that many people are overly addicted to their cellphones. Many people are on it alot because of buisness which is ok but aalot are just on in constantly texting or doing personal things. If they keep repeating the offence and can not seem to stop it maybe a rehabilitation centre wouldn't be a bad idea.

It's hard to admit sometimes, but I really think that people are to reliant on their cellphones. i.e. When you're making a left turn, is it absolutely necessary for you to check that new text? When you're driving the priority is to be safe in a car. Drivers have a responsibility to keep themselves, other drivers and pedestrians safe.

I agree that texting while driving is not safe and more accidents are mainly caused by people texting and driving or trying to hide it. I have my beginners and i have witnessed other people texting while driving while i was doing my driving lessons. I agree that the law is apporpriate but when being caught a second time there should be a more severe penalty. Perhaps a suspended licence? I think if the person is caught three times there should be a criminal charge. Overall Awesome Video!

texting and driving is really distracting but like Mac said just because its banned doesnt mean that its right because more and more people are obvioulsy going to hide it and even when people have blue-tooths these days they are still some how distrated. this is a serious issue and further research has to been done or just not allow phones in cars period.

Texting and diriving..

I think people should stop doing this,no one has the right to put anyone's life in danger. Police should be very strict about this problem and even suspecting that some one is on their phone while driving should be pull over.Drivers need to think about this issue very seriously and stop their bad habit if they do have it because as I said it is not fair to innocent people that is out there in the streets.
