thatswhy nyc went bankrupt because of the sanatition unions they were making more money than the teachers and all the immigrents that came over here to the imgridents of the 30swere hard workers the immigrents of thr 80s wanted welfare all thre time some of thr 80s immigrents were hard workers very few
so you're saying you met absolutely every single immigrant in New York city in the 30's, and 80's, and they told you exactly what their intentions were?
I don't think that I will, either, but I often wonder what reminds me of it on normal nights like this?
I was a young college student who had come across country from San Bernardino, California. I spent the night in my neighbor's apartment to help her and her husband keep their 3 month old twins cool. All night long changing cool, wet rags and diapers not a breath of air in that building lol.
Gawd, I was a kid growing up near Crotona Park [in the Bronx] when all this was happening. At the time, I couldn't understand why there were so many burnt-out tenements around me... documentaries like these put a spin on urban historical education.
I agree but don't be under the assumption that people getting assistance from the government can actually live off of it. On average 1 single person can get less than $117 a month. Who can live off of that? Yes, also food stamps but seriously the system pushes people to work anyhow. So you get about $117 or less and they force you to work doing anything they choose. Who in their right minds can keep that up? They are forced to just get a minimum wage job because that is even more money.
For the love of god could they have not chosen different music for the opening - about as cliched as the idea of new York itself. Please no more Carmina Burana
its not that simple, u gotta take care of your people to a degree, welfare works in europe, it didnt work in 1970s new york. but you gotta help people when they need it. although i have to say people seriously abuse the welfare system in the uk
There is a documentary about New York City which is really really amazing. I don't remember if published by the BBC, History Channel or Discovery Channel. Search, and you may find it. It covers the city's foundation history, the political movements the park, the bridge, everything. I watched it at TV there are many parts of it.
bbc has the best documentaries

Thank you for posting this.
This documentary goes a lot more in depth than a lot of American Documentaries about the subject. PBS or the History Channel should pick this one up.

I remember all this. I was 11 years old. WCBS Ch.2 news called the looting and clashes with the police "the worst rioting since the '60's!"
Dear old mayor Abraham Beam's answer to the black-out was to blame the people of NYC!

Man I'll never forget that night ! It was hot
and humid. I couldn't sleep because of the humidity and the police sirens because of the looting.

ok, NewYork is done, now it's the time for UNITED STATES of AMERICA.
YOU DONT WORK!!!!, YOU DONT GET PAY!!!!
too many lazy people in the US, i live in New York,
and i saw so many people don't go to work and just enjoying their advantages from government benefits.
trust me, those people can't live outside the US.
its not because i'm jealous, but i am sick of this...
the only person who can enjoy the government benefits is those disables.
