Jeffery is lucky to have a good, well spoken and analytical father that can speak for him and try to offer some closure for the victims families. Jeffery was guilty on all accounts and was a really deranged person. The only thing I can say is his father has a lot of guts to speak on behalf of a son like Jeffery, (not to justify his actions) but to simply offer the truth as he saw it.

@7246a He DID try to take his son to AA; it wasn't working; so his father thought if he joined the millitary; it would create an atmosphere where Jeff would learn discipline and be able to deal with his problems better. And; like I said in an earlier comment; I'm sure if he knew how screwed up Jeff was; he WOULD have gotten help.
I suppose it's possible that specific environmental factors and personality traits can create a perfect storm. I truly believe it's possible that his parents couldn't have done much more than they did for him. My childhood wasn't much better but I'm fine. He was a true Jekyl/Hyde personality, which the fact he could hide his dark side and act normal was obviously a learned trait early on in life. With a personality as sinister and calculating, I can understand how few warning signs there were.

I truly believe it's possible that his parents couldn't have done much more than they did for him. My childhood wasn't much better but I'm fine.
