This song and the scenes of this film haunt me. Sorry to see that worn out Hindi vs Urdu bullshit. Who cares? It's beautiful. One of my great grandfathers was hired to get the Italians out of town. Nearly all of his descendents married Italians. All my ancestors were enemies but I love so many things that are French, English, Spanish, Algerian, Jewish, or Irish etc. just as I love music from Pakistan and India. In art all that stupid limited identity shit can piss off.

Lata Mangeshkar, my dear lady, you are one of the biggest treasures of this world ! I am from Romania-Europe but my childhood was swinging of your songs ! Thanke you !
the song is written in hindi or urdu does not matters, its written by an indian and not a pakistani, and for indians only ,no matter a muslim or a hindu, why cant pakistanis make such beautiful songs, when they boast of their language.whatever they make even pakistani donot listen to their songs..its indian very very indian, long live my motherland.
i do not speak Hindu/Urdi but as Afghan i understand 100% of this song...its just amazing how much related we all central Asians and south Asian are...thank you so much for upload this song...this is amazing song which really shows one of most beautiful human emotions---LOVE!!!
Hindustan and Afghanistan have very old ancient relationship. India was always neighbour of Afghanistan for thousands of years before Pakistan was created.
My family are from Hindustan and I speak Urdu/Hindi, but my grandfather was a Pathan called Amanullah Khan. There are many Pathans living there with origin in Afghanistan. Shahrukh, Amir, Salman are only few of them.
Check out my channel, I've got loads of old songs like these and some Raj Kapoor classics.

Ur comment clearly shows ur shallow knowledge of Poetry, teeeheeee biased first ever Poetic prowess was shown by a hindu & first ever Literary creation in Sanskrit.
Every Language has a deep depth, that can only be grabbed by the people who have eyes to see & understand them & not people like u.
This song can never be translated into Hindi ,but can be rewritten in Hindi with its own depth
@freepretender uhm .. to be honest, urdu AND hindi are "child" languages from persian! and please before u start screaming at me, know that im 100% indian born and bred! ;)
ps - i think we need a new Razia Sultan movie that can kick ass! like in the lines of ashutosh gowarikar! =D
what is funny is that this song is 85% Dari(afghan Persian). hi dil e nadaan(100%) Dari...Jostejoo(100% dari) kai he(hindi) Arazo(100% Dari) kai he(hindi) and so on..and on...honestly i hate when i see few Pakistani like u with deep inferiority complex...just appreciate the beauty of this song and forget to prove ur worth. Be happy we are all human being Hindu, Muslim jews...we all bleed...we all feel the pain... let live and love humanity.
Urdu absorbs words from other langauages ,as for yours "logic", creat any song in dari, faris, pushto, hindi, sansikrat, banglai or punjabi and then compare it to Urdu langauge and see result.
the words you try to name dari, also used in Turkish and Bangali langauge.
the song langauge is Urdu, not hindi or dari, get the point?
I suggest you read history... Urdu basically means Army in Dari... it was created during Afghanistan king Sultan Mahmod Ghaznavi invasion of India. More then 80% of language is Dari.
@blurr1000 uhm .. to be honest, urdu AND hindi are "child" languages from persian and urdu is written in kufic script! and please before u start screaming at me, know that im 100% indian born and bred! ;)
ps - i think we need a new Razia Sultan movie that can kick ass! like in the lines of ashutosh gowarikar! =D
@blurr1000 yes, i do agree they both have loan words! sorry ...i just like pointing things out like a nerd!
but - on this whole point of history & conquerors ... sure, we were invaded, and we had diff regimes rule us ... but at the end of the day look at the glass half full ... how did that impact us - we are so rich - historically, culturally, we grow up with so many different people around us, & we must use it as a strength for our global position! other countries cant boast of that?
and urdu and persian scripts are much more similar than urdu and arabic..most of the time. from personal experience, i have a much harder time reading urdu and arabic is much easier to read .... might even be because i learnt it in university!
ps - where history gets really screwed ... is with movies! :p her slave was supposed to be Abyssinian!! :p
@blurr1000 well, on the whole of it, all the scripts, urdu, persian, arabic, sindhi ... they all look the same, but its a little more intricate when it comes to writing ... and then for me much more difficult when it comes to reading! :-p
@blurr1000 We know our history as much as our history book lets us know, bro!
remember the time with all the govt censorship that went into it! and sure we've had a violent past, but that violence was very recent and mostly from the time of the Brits. and if you look at Germany and their treatment of Jews, Native Americans driven out of their land ... compare it with us, we still have our indigenous population with a huge cultural backgrd. =D
the vastness of the desert is so fluently captured in this song. MUSIc punctuated with the mood of the heroine and the deep night ambience is heavenly.
ग़ज़ब की रचना और संगीत ! लता की जादुई आवाज ऐसी कि मिश्री की मिठास शरमा जाए, सुनने वाले के कानों में मोगरे के फ़ूल झरने लगे, आवाज, संगीत जीत जाए और फिलोसोफिकल संदेश सोचने के लिये रह जाए.
This song contains a lot of Persian words like SAYA, ROBARO, JUSTAJO etc. If Urdu gleans its words from Hindi then Persian would definitely be absorbing Hindi's words..lol
Its Urdu dear... The fact that the word is Persian doesn't mean that it is Persian. Most of the Persian words absorbed into Urdu have changed their meaning.... The words here are Persian Urdu words used in their right context... Its not Hindi! .. Hindi doesn't even have alphabets to sound like them!
@cirrhosed .... Hindi actually came from Sanskrit ... while Urdu is a mixture of Arabic, Hindi, Persian and other languages. Hindi is one of the BEST languages, while Urdu is one of the SWEETEST languages of the earth. Hindi makes you feel like INDIAN and Urdu makes you feel like LOVER and really touches your HEART. :)
That's right Urdu does have Sanskrit words but not the Hindi's. Primarily its a derivative of Persian and Arabic and also Turkish but to a lesser extend. It has nothing to do with today's Hindi. The later combines words of Urdu indirectly Persian and Arabic with Sanskrit and egresses as Hindi. Urdu is written the same way as Persian and Arabic, it is different in Hindi's case.
Irrespective of the languages this song is beautiful and the way it is sung is commendable.
I am very sorry to disappoint you my friends. but man has to be objective. The truth is that urdu is a mixture of two great languages of the world (Persian and Hindi) and therefor it is so rich. No offend ;)
hindi is kind of dead sansikrat, which beyound understanding and not langauge of music and melody.
Kamal Amrohi made Pakiza in Urdu, but could not get censore crtificate,he went to court and after long struggle got it, so u see situation in india for Urdu,
i think without Urdu lata, mukesh, artiste and working force of film industry would have been beggers on the street of india.
Hindi did not take its vocabulary from Urdu. The vocabulary of both Urdu and Hindi is inherited from its ancestor languages, such as Sanskrit, and absorbed from other languages that visited the Indian subcontinent, such as Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Portuguese, and English. Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language. You are no authority to tell us what "real Hindi" is. You don't even know anything about language or linguistics.
ok dude... wutever you say... covering up the truth doesn't really stop it from being the truth!!! and it is absolutely unnecessary to bring lataji into this!!!
URDU WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKUP OF PAKISTAN IN 1971, hahahaha! Bangladeshis separated because urdu was being forced upon them. Thats what happens to a country which follows a retarded mongrel language like urdu.
This is not A political Platform Please,in which we are discussing the socio Political Issues, Rather More Let us enjoy the soft Romantic poetry of the GHazal Which simply makes you sway with its flow of the Passions & the Imprisoned Emotions which come to the fore in a WOman's FAntasy & her Innerself.
Yep She was the First woman Ruler on such a vast NAtion, Who had a much softer side toooo
as a muslim i know arabic was the first language farsi comes from arabi..and urdu comes from farsi..hindi and urdu are similar now but really hindu is a sanskrit language and all muslim languages have nothing to do with sanskrit..i am afghani pashtoon and speak arabic and read arabic farsi urdu as they are all from the same ARABIC ALPHABET this IS URDU RAZIA SULTAN A TRUE STORY ABOUT A MUSLIM WOMAN WHO REMAINS IN HISTORY
farsi (or Persian) predates Arabic by many centuries. Agreed, they share a common script now, that doesn't make Arabic the root of Persian. Infact, if you are a linguist, u can notice that Persian belongs to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European family of languages like Sanskrit, Hindi, Latin, Greek etc
In composing songs, the more the words available, the better and easier it it to write a song or shairi. More word options means more songs and shairi.
C'mon you all, we are all Aryans regardless of our religion- hindu or muslim. All the way from Persia, central Asia, Afghanistan to north, west, east India and some got mixed with Dravidians during and after the invasion. thats why majority of muslims or Hindus follow customs more than religion in marriages and etc.. And urdu is a modern language.
Urdu orginated from the local language. Its actually the local language influenced by persian, arabic and turkish..This is all urdu...Hindi and hindu are also persian or arabic words. I don't see anywhere hindi...only in ZEE NEWS what I really don't understand. Your so called hindi films are in urdu even in posh urdu. Try to make films in Hindi like ZEE TV news.
Yes those are Persian, Arabic and Turkish words. It's all a part of Hindi now - as it has been for several hundred years.
Just like Urdu-speakers, Hindi-speakers have no qualms about absorbing Arabo-Persian loanwords into the language - I don't see what's there to get so worked up about.
The variation of four weathers & the variation of the Geographic Feature & the variation of the Soil colors, The vegetations the Habbits generated by the Variation bring the sweetness & the Variety to the Indian subcontinent & everything that is connected with that.
Anybody who tries to defy this concept is like challenging his own exisitence & basics of Life.
PLease for god sake keep teh communal remarks off here.
Urdu & Hindi They bare both the product of the Indian historical melting pot, The adaptation of the Indian subcontinent is so beautiful That It can just absorb everything & represent the whole thing in a very beautiful way.
The reason for the adaptation is not any particular Religion or the Cast or Race or creed,But the very potent soil of this peace of Mother Earth, Whichlends an equal vision to all its Children contd.....
i really felt sad after reading the comments below why do u guys turn everything into somthing communal music know no religion ,no race and no boundries ...a good song is enjoyed by all ... urdu is great language so is hindi and so is every language ..please duscuss ur communical thoughts someware else not here.
There are lot of other songs written in Urdu language which are not soooo beautiful. There are many talented people behind this song - don't belittle their efforts.
i disagree. Replace those words with Hindi and the sony will most probably turn into a disaster! Yeah! I mean they have worked on it to make it a great tune but words count a lot! Urdu Zindabad! (I respect Hindi also!) but get irritated when people call Urdu as Hindi. No! Its f****** not Hindi!
I am glad Urdu in not Hindi. You don't have to call any language f*****. This lack of respect for other cultures, people is the one thing why muslims (urdu speakers) are at loggerheads with all other main religions - christians, Jews and Hindus and as of now they are at reciving end either by suicide bomb or American / Israeli strikes.
to ur reply to my post below. i have to agree with missmundo2006 that this song is Urdu and both the Urdu words and rhythm are neatly stringed together. Try replacing those words with Hindi and this song will be a disaster. Urdu is the language of India , so in my opinion u r humiliating ur own Language.
How am I humiliating my own language? Did I call any language F*****? BTW, urdu is one of MANY languages of India.
In addition to urdu words, it's music by Khaiyaam and singing by Lata which has added magic to this song. Ask Noor Jahan to sing this song and this song will be a disaster.
By the way, Khaiyaam is Muslim and Lata sings in Urdu and not Hindi. This can be corroborated by the fact that Lata pronounces sounds for example the Urdu "kh" as in German "ch" which is a harsh sound not found in Hindi. Urdu is a poetic language whilst Hindi is not. Sorry to say but 95% of the songs you call Hindi are actually Urdu. for example in Dewangi of OSO words used like "Rahbar", Rehzan, Ilzaam are all Urdu words. Ishq & Mohabbat are both Urdu words (borrowed from persian and arabic)
By the way, the movie also shows muslim culture esp. songs like 'Jalta Hai Badan'. How muslims used to keep (and still keep when they can afford) women in harems and 'use' them like things.
Persian is likely to have been somewhat influenced by Arabic (especially the written form)- but it is not a relative or descendant of Arabic. Old Persian (Avestan) is a very close relative of Sanskrit, hence modern Persian and Hindi/Urdu are 'first cousins'.
i hope what Miss mundo29006 said makes a lot of sense. if not then u must consult a Urdu and Hindi linguist. anywayz - forget Noorjehan and focus on the song. I said the song is Urdu and nothing else. go and brag abt it
madswe- look at what ur doing. u guys nowadays are using Urdu in those songs and calling them Hindi???? without giving Urdu any credit. That is a conspicuous attempt by the Indian film Industry to sabotage "the distinct identity" of Urdu from Hindi. Isn't that unfair.
I have made my point. Now you can keep discussing about greatness of urdu and how everyone is 'stealing' the disticnt identity of urdu and everything else that belongs to muslims.
Unless untill you start respecting other cultures, you will be killed by American / NATO / Israeli air strikes and remining will die in suicide bombs.
immagination behind this song is so sublime that its unbelievable. A beautiful composition that justifies its meaning. this song changes mental chemestry if listened in tranquility. Every line is full of immortal passion and drags you back to novel nostalgia... an unbound philosohly. A complete Platonic pilosopy
A big favourite since my childhood..i have listened to it countless times .! Great song!

can you go back and look at the histoy again. muslims were the ruling class for 800 yrs, and those muslims includes muslims from persians, afghans, turks etc. ...pathans were basically the arm force of muslim rulers. and now a days what you call pathans in pakistan are basically the hybrid of indians with arabs of middle east, persians, afghans (they are still not in their mind!!) and pasrt of china.

Check out my channel, I've got loads of old songs like these and some Raj Kapoor classics.

what is funny is that this song is 85% Dari(afghan Persian). hi dil e nadaan(100%) Dari...Jostejoo(100% dari) kai he(hindi) Arazo(100% Dari) kai he(hindi) and so on..and on...honestly i hate when i see few Pakistani like u with deep inferiority complex...just appreciate the beauty of this song and forget to prove ur worth.

@poissondelamer URDU is HINDI with ARABIC and PERSIAN words.
It is written in the PERSIAN alphabet too.
INDIA was invaded and taken over many times over the last 1300 years.
That is where the words come from.

@msbis I like to learn things so I like to hear from others and don't I scream at them.
Hindi/Urdu has a many "loan words" from Arabic and Persian. And one uses the Persian form of the Arabic script. You can look it up.
This occurred because the country was invaded many times.
India does not know its history. If it did it would not make films like this that celebrate its conquerors.
blurr1000 1 year ago
@blurr1000 yes, i do agree they both have loan words! sorry ...i just like pointing things out like a nerd!
but - on this whole point of history & conquerors ... sure, we were invaded, and we had diff regimes rule us ... but at the end of the day look at the glass half full ... how did that impact us - we are so rich - historically, culturally, we grow up with so many different people around us, & we must use it as a strength for our global position! other countries cant boast of that?
msbis 1 year ago
and urdu and persian scripts are much more similar than urdu and arabic..most of the time. from personal experience, i have a much harder time reading urdu and arabic is much easier to read .... might even be because i learnt it in university!
ps - where history gets really screwed ... is with movies! :p her slave was supposed to be Abyssinian!! :p
msbis 1 year ago
@msbis Urdu uses the Persian script. The Persian script comes from the Arabic script.
blurr1000 1 year ago
@blurr1000 well, on the whole of it, all the scripts, urdu, persian, arabic, sindhi ... they all look the same, but its a little more intricate when it comes to writing ... and then for me much more difficult when it comes to reading! :-p

@msbis India does not know its history. India is not rich historically. It has a terrible history.
blurr1000 1 year ago
@blurr1000 We know our history as much as our history book lets us know, bro!
remember the time with all the govt censorship that went into it! and sure we've had a violent past, but that violence was very recent and mostly from the time of the Brits. and if you look at Germany and their treatment of Jews, Native Americans driven out of their land ... compare it with us, we still have our indigenous population with a huge cultural backgrd. =D

Its Urdu dear... The fact that the word is Persian doesn't mean that it is Persian. Most of the Persian words absorbed into Urdu have changed their meaning....

You don't even know anything about language or linguistics.

farsi (or Persian) predates Arabic by many centuries. Agreed, they share a common script now, that doesn't make Arabic the root of Persian. It is not the Soil or weather That gave itself teh Communal color but the Tribal attitude & lack of the adability in the coexistence theory.
So Urdu is a sweet Language & the way this song is written is actually fits in best with Urdu words.
Hindi songs are also good written & sung but.... Both are understood only by those who love Art & not a single communal color.
Hindi & Urdu are the derivatives of The Indian Language systems.

The variation of four weathers & the variation of the Geographic Feature & the variation of the Soil colors, The vegetations the Habbits generated by the Variation bring the sweetness & the Variety to the Indian subcontinent & everything that is connected with that.

There are lot of other songs written in Urdu language which are not soooo beautiful. There are many talented people behind this song - don't belittle their efforts.
madswe 3 years ago
i disagree. Replace those words with Hindi and the sony will most probably turn into a disaster! Yeah! I mean they have worked on it to make it a great tune but words count a lot! Urdu Zindabad! (I respect Hindi also!) but get irritated when people call Urdu as Hindi. No! Its f****** not Hindi!
missmundo2006 3 years ago
I am glad Urdu in not Hindi. You don't have to call any language f*****. This lack of respect for other cultures, people is the one thing why muslims (urdu speakers) are at loggerheads with all other main religions - christians, Jews and Hindus and as of now they are at reciving end either by suicide bomb or American / Israeli strikes.
madswe 3 years ago
to ur reply to my post below. i have to agree with missmundo2006 that this song is Urdu and both the Urdu words and rhythm are neatly stringed together. Try replacing those words with Hindi and this song will be a disaster. Urdu is the language of India , so in my opinion u r humiliating ur own Language.
syedyasirkamal 3 years ago 2
How am I humiliating my own language? Did I call any language F*****? BTW, urdu is one of MANY languages of India.
In addition to urdu words, it's music by Khaiyaam and singing by Lata which has added magic to this song. Ask Noor Jahan to sing this song and this song will be a disaster.
madswe 3 years ago 3
By the way, Khaiyaam is Muslim and Lata sings in Urdu and not Hindi. This can be corroborated by the fact that Lata pronounces sounds for example the Urdu "kh" as in German "ch" which is a harsh sound not found in Hindi. Urdu is a poetic language whilst Hindi is not. Sorry to say but 95% of the songs you call Hindi are actually Urdu. for example in Dewangi of OSO words used like "Rahbar", Rehzan, Ilzaam are all Urdu words. Ishq & Mohabbat are both Urdu words (borrowed from persian and arabic)
missmundo2006 3 years ago 2
I never claimed Hindi is a poetic language. Hindi is derived from Sanskrit which is a scientific language and I am proud of it.
As long as you don't call Hindi or any other language as f*****, you can keep boasting urdu's poetic greatness.
madswe 3 years ago 3
By the way, the movie also shows muslim culture esp. songs like 'Jalta Hai Badan'. How muslims used to keep (and still keep when they can afford) women in harems and 'use' them like things.
newview975 3 years ago
Islam does not allow such things to happen...if it happened in culture, it is outside of the religion
manzurkhan124 3 years ago
Stop making claims like you know anything about linguistics or language history. Yes, Ishq and mohabbat are borrowed words.
Borrowed into Urdu and Hindi both. The only Urdu words that are not 'borrowed' from Persian and Arabic are those that descended from Indian Prakrits.
Besides, Persian is a very close cousin of Hindi to begin with and has nothing whatsoever to do with Arabic.
pointplace 3 years ago
Persian is mostly infleunced by arabic. Persian is more influenced by arabic then Urdu by arabic.
nangamujra 3 years ago
Persian is likely to have been somewhat influenced by Arabic (especially the written form)- but it is not a relative or descendant of Arabic. Old Persian (Avestan) is a very close relative of Sanskrit, hence modern Persian and Hindi/Urdu are 'first cousins'.
pointplace 3 years ago
i hope what Miss mundo29006 said makes a lot of sense. if not then u must consult a Urdu and Hindi linguist. anywayz - forget Noorjehan and focus on the song.
Isn't that unfair.
syedyasirkamal 3 years ago 2
I have made my point. Now you can keep discussing about greatness of urdu and how everyone is 'stealing' the disticnt identity of urdu and everything else that belongs to muslims.
Unless untill you start respecting other cultures, you will be killed by American / NATO / Israeli air strikes and remining will die in suicide bombs.
madswe 3 years ago
Despite socio-political differences, it's essentially the same language. Any unbiased linguist will tell you that. Live with it.
