  • Kids this is from Where the Action is NOT American Bandstand.

  • The electronics was extremely primitive by today's standards. The camera, lens operation, lighting etc, had to be stationary. The cameras back then were very heavy so the performers were instructed to 'stand on the star' and don't move. When the performers went on stage, they first looked for the little star and stayed in place like a statue. They had no choice. All of the 'editing' was done on the spot (except for deletion by 'pause key') and recorded on a 3inche magnetic tape. Still..

  • This brings back a whole era. Why is Frankie Valli so macho when he sings soprano??

  • ‎"American Bandstand" -- always lip-synched -- did the occasional outdoor "performance." This has to be from 1966, because Nick Massi has been replaced as bass guitarist by the lefthanded Joe Long, along with original members Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio and Tommy DeVito. The location is probably LA, maybe even MacArthur Park (not yet immortalized in song). If they'd done it in color, they could have gone to the Seasons' hometown, Newark, and used Branch Brook Park with the cherry blossoms.

  • I loved the 4Seasons. my favorite song is SHOW GIRL which you never hear any where but at my house. It was the flip side of 45 of TELL IT TO THE RAIN. It is not on any compilation or box set of anything I can finf of theres. It should be. Listen to it if you have the original single on Phillips.

  • @Dickneeds Ain't that a shame and 11 others/Lets Hang On. on Amazon has show girl on the album. It was on the lets hang on LP album which I own and also have this song on two cds. I know for sure you can get a cd which has this song on it.I have almost every song they ever did. I may be missing a very few that never made it on an album

  • A #1 song for The Four Seasons in the summer of 1964. I will always feel that if it had not been for The Beatles, The Four Seasons would have been the breakout act of the 1960's. Even though The Beatles dominated that decade, The Four Seasons also made their mark.

  • I wish that times were like that. I wish I could make a girl cry with happiness by singing too her. Girls these days are weird. I wish I could find a simple girl. A real girly girl with a dress and no really obsessed with what people think

  • @yankees3936 I've made some people cry by singing!

  • @Alikah1 You're a lucky person. I tried to sing to my girlfriend, she just laughed in the middle and said that the song is a million years old, it was Earth Angel by The Penquins

  • @yankees3936 The problem was I was singing WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!

  • @Alikah1 So she was crying from the awkwardness? lol

  • @yankees3936 yes...but guys in my neighborhood even painted the words "Earth Angel" on their well kept shinny cars. It's one of those things where "you'd have to be there to appreciate it."

  • Frankie has the voice of an angel

  • love this :)

  • Everything about this vid is awesome, great voice great band, i love the old style clothing and simply the way things were back then u dont see it these days, it really takes me back to the times before i was born.

  • Wow, the "best girl in school" got to hear Frankie first hand.....WHILE SHE IS HOLDING HIS HAND!@!!....Sheesh, my dad would have crapped his pants!!

  • This was also used on The Sopranos Season 4

  • Yesterday, Rag Doll, today, killkillkillraperaperapeshootshoot. WTH?

  • @katiejdr567 don't forget the drugs

  • @katiejdr567 Are you saying that rape didn't happen until recently? It only seems that way because we have the mass media; a way to get the negative news out to everyone. Rape and killing has been around since man began to reproduce.

  • in Italy is "Quello che non sai" sung by Pooh

  • Omg I saw this when if first played. I also saw them live and they were incredible back then. What a blast from the past!

  • i am a 53 model its awesome

  • at 1:40 it kinda looks like if frankis breathe stinks or something from her facial expression

  • Jeri Lyn was my favorite Action Kids dancer. If somebody would remaster this series and release it on DVD everybody would see how totally awesome she was.

  • X*D

  • Ahh summers in the '60s, Palisades Amusement Park and music like this on AM radio

  • Epic staring contest

  • Ooooohhh! Ragdoll: I love it!

  • I think the 1960s were more dangerous even thougn i was born in 1981 because you had the threat of nuclear war everyday

  • OMG, all I can do is cry with this one....

Hope you all find your "little ragdoll" to love and cherish...

    sorry, this hurts too much...

  • QUESTION TO EVERYONE

Is society TODAY better or worse than in the 1960s meaning the violence and dangers

  • @JackHaynes30

omg, easy answer there Jack.........definately times were safer in the 60's especially start to mid.......the violence today is mind blowing, so sad how society has become a melting pot of pervs ,rapists, murderers!

and the Music...........horrible, i love my oldies, but today i stick to COUNTRY MUSIC

  • was that a female fan or just part of the show

  • I love the innocence in this video. No tatoos or piercings anywhere...

  • they did another song on the show from same location but cant find it anywhere it used to be on youtube please help!

  • Speaking of oldies , I was listening to this when it first came out . I'm pushing 70yrs. How the the time flies. ( That's an oldie also ).

  • i love this music myself but doesnt he look like klinger from mash?

  • I'm 4 years younger than Frankie, and you still can't beat it !!!!!!

  • My mom loved this! Some of my earliest influences. Thank you for the post.

  • Im 15, almost 16, and Ive beeen listening to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and this type of good music since I can remember, because I have cool old parents, anyhow yesterday after saying to one of my "friends" I was buying tickets to see him I actually had to explain who Frankie Valli was, and then I actually got laughed at for it!

  • this music is not dead as long as there is someone like us to keep it going and after we r gone others will play it

  • @AllthatJazz62 just don't listen to it

  • @AllthatJazz62 Stuck with???? Heard of an IPOD?

  • @CharlieMonLive Uh, yes. But that does not make TV, Radio and other media go away. I can't listen to an Ipod all the of the time. Every where you go you hear that Lady Gaga person, Katy Perry, Kesha....you can't even escape at church.

  • @AllthatJazz62 You are small minded... Looser!

  • @CharlieMonLive Okay? Have a nice day then.

  • This is one of the Greatest songs in HISTORY.

  • I love this song and this sort of music todays music sucks.

  • Gotta love Frankie!

  • The best American group of all-time, they made so many great records. My favorite group ever, the 4 Seasons.

    7-5-11

  • @patoo1000 no bob gaudio was on his way to the recording studio and he was at a red light and a little girl walked up and started to clean his wind shield and he reached into his pocket for a couple of dollars but the smallest bill he had was a twenty and he looked at her and she was wearing nothing but tattered clothes and he gave her the twenty dollar bill and the look on her face was what encouraged him to write the song Frankie talks about it in the ice tribute video of him singing the song

  • Love this stuff, have since the 60's. Always be a favorite.

  • this must have been recorded in a kindergarden from the looks of it . the girl Frankie is singing to is very sexy, a real jersey girl. great song though from my youth. gosh I'm old.

  • I believe that the four seasons were on tour and as they past throught a small town they saw a young girl dress in rags by the side of the road and wrote this song about her.

  • Hard to believe but this guy is still alive, kicking and looking and sounding good. I'm going to see him in September. It's amazing how some acts were able to do that, but a lot imploded by the mid-70s. Peter Noone (Herman's Hermits) is another one. Saw him a year ago, still touring like a maniac, sounded better than any of his records, funny as hell and looked great. And then there was Hendrix...

  • @Moshpith

wow you are absolutly right about Peter, what energy on stage, I was sooo impressed! would love to see Frankie , especially after seeing Jersey Boys, Amazing Story!!!

  • geez, why could i have grown up when music like this was on the radio, all i grew up with was rap, and nirvana, and rage agains the machine that was on the radio, although i never listened to it

  • @gweaterman umm, nirvana were actually good!

  • @gweaterman rage and nirvana were actually good.

  • @rmctelevision It is always the teens and young men who go to war, based on decisions of OLD men.

  • me too that will be so cool

  • the kids bornin the 70,s and 80,swere brought up on this music, i,ve still got the tape my sons love it xx.

  • Muñeca de trapo.

  • You got that right!

  • Love this song this sort of music is far better than the shite you get today.

  • Anyone seen The Jersey Boys??? wow that is an awesome show ever since i saw it i've liked the four seasons and this is coming from a 14 year old Iron Maiden fan

  • ahh the days where you can sing a ridiculous falsetto straight into a girls face and have her fall in love with you. where have the times gone?

  • @truthasfineprint they R long gone, but YouTube is pretty good supplement!

  • @truthasfineprint you could? I'm 51 and don't remember that so those times must've been long gone by the 70's.

  • @truthasfineprint there are plenty of girls who'd go for that now. you should try it this weekend. godspeed! ; D

  • @truthasfineprint They were killed by Barry Gibb in 1977. And yet he talked Frankie into singing the theme from "Grease" in 1978.

  • dude looks like steve carell.

  • 昭和39年でしたか。記憶違いでなければ、全米№1になったと思います。このころはビートルズ、ローリングストーンズ、ビーチボーイズ、シュープリームスなど大物が沢山登場した時代でした。4シーズンズも大物だったと思います。

  • This song is so awesome, music today is so twisted and crass but these song make me feels like there is still hope for our generation.

  • man who is the girl he singing to? bet she hot as hell now

  • @theaznlvr Her name is jerilyn stapleton. She was one of the "Action " dancers.

  • @hipguide1

wow im so sorry i was born ib 1970 i would have loved being a teen in the 1950s-1960s

  • @hipguide1 Just wondered if you know if she was also a Shindig dancer. There's a girl who looks just like her in just about every Shindig clip.

  • I love this song cause we always wore hand me down clothes. I learned how to work with what showed up. I am grateful for the clothes I would get and the creativity it taught me. I also know that God provides and he believes in recycling. God always took care of me. He has given me so much stuff that I have come to learn that it is all stuff. He will always provide and stuff isn't what it is all about. It is about the journey and God providing every step of the way. It is also about honoring him.

  • @Mineretta2012 Those are lovely sentiments. And in the Muslim world, in the desert, in desperate situations they say, not to worry, God will provide. Obviously it doesn't work out for everyone if you read the news.

  • @nnndIT Well it is all depending on how you look at it. Cause maybe God said it is time to come home and they got to escape the insanity. Hmmmm Think about it for a while.

  • WOW!, I was 13 and in 8th grade when this came out...along with Transistor Radios. I'm reminded of the last "Poodle Skirts"...girls with "Bobby Socks" and ponytails...Intense puppy loves every 2 weeks. Those days had to pass but thank God the memories haven't...I'm 60 now. I always thought Frankie Valle was inhaling Helium when he sang Falsetto...of course i know better now...but it was hard, if not impossible, to imitate his voice. I Love that era sooooo much!

  • I have been in love with this song since i was 5. im 20 yrs old and listen to this type of music every day of my life... i love it!

  • @25corn Same here on almost everything, except I'm almost 53! :-)

  • @25corn I know exactly what you mean. My parents were older people. I was a young kid in the 90's listening to the oldies station for The Four Seasons, The Temptations, Del Shannon, Ricky Nelson etc.:) Continue to enjoy it. I'm 30 now and I still do!:)

  • Anybody know what this is from? What show?

  • I believe it's "Where the Action is"

  • I remember this _ was there - wow takes you back

  • del shannon i think was the original and possibly with the most feeling.

  • The one playing Bass Guitar, is left handed. but later on. Their Lead guitarist was also left handed too.

  • COMMONLY KNOWN AS SPAG BOLL, A GREAT LITTLE NUMBER, LOVE IT.

  • weird video....looks like a middle aged man trying to chat up a kid....should have stuck to pictures of original

  • My sister thought this song was made for her..Mom was a tight wad with money with all us kids growing up.. She kind of had to though..we woulda starved to death if she hadn't. lol

  • what kind of guitar is that--not the bass

  • akward

  • Wish the blonde on the left with ponytail would get her co-ordination right!!! Great song, helped me get through boarding school years ago

  • wow Bob Gaudio is totally in a beach boys shirt

  • I was at this taping which was at the Brooklyn Hts Promenade 1964, I was 12 going on 13 and was a Four Seasons fan as most around the NYC area was then, then came along the Beatles and the British invasion and I loved that scene from then on. Del Shannon was a under rated singer and musician and really should have gotten his due respect, Frankly was cool in his day! I wish some of you not write about mob hits as I am tired watching the Soprano reruns.

  • And cool Frankie lifts off into outer-space - Ooo Aaaaaaaaa aaaaa ooh aaah aah

  • "Such a pretty face should br dressed in a dress...."

  • @THB79 dressed in "lace."

  • @THB79 No.

  • Frankie is lucky that he didn't wind up "out in the Meadowlands." If you're from the NY area, you know what I mean here...ask Connie Francis about her brother...

  • @jyoungvoagov - Connie's brother, George Franconero, was whacked on the morning of March 6, 1981, outside his home in North Caldwell, N.J. The killers were two men who'd arrived a few minutes before the 9 a.m. rubout. They knelt in the snow behind some shrubs. When Franconero, 40, emerged from his home, a volley of .32-caliber bullets met him head-on. It was rumored that Franconero had been blabbing to authorities about certain unsavory types and he'd incurred the ultimate penalty.

  • @jyoungvoagov i certainly do and that is funny, LOL!! a joke for me, not for that person.

  • @ BobbyColePopMusic - if you'd like this clip to display in the proper 4:3 aspect ratio, just go to your "Edit" options and add the following to the "tags" box:

    yt:stretch=4:3

The change won't show up right away but, when it does, the clip won't look all stretched out anymore. Oh, and thanks for posting this FV4S classic!

  • A falsetto that would make the Vienna Boys Choir sound muy ma!cho ! Had to have the cool guitars they played Gibson Firebirds & Fender Jaguars

  • Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons was one of the greatest musical acts of the sixties. Is it any wonder that they made it to the Hall of Fame musically? AHHHH! This brings back wonderful memories!

  • OMG who is the girl leaning against the fence off to there right?

    she is awesome

  • Frankie made us fans of the FALSETTO.Was there anybody with that type voice before him?

  • Ah the memories when I was a kid in Glasgow

  • Billboard's 152nd #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • I was in Glasgow when I heard for the fist time this nice song.

    Good Times!!!

    Walter

  • Ya think old Frankie has had a couple rinoplasties since this video haha Awesome

  • Increíble la manera de interpretar de Frankie Valli, estupenda canción.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs!!

  • dis song makes me wanna jizz in a good way

  • So great! A fine Nr.1 in the US Charts from August 1964. These guys could afford to put another monster track on the flipside: SILENCE IS GOLDEN was a Nr.1 in many countries in Europe, made by THE TREMELOES

  • Comment removed

  • Franky cannot hold Del Shannon's jock.. It is not even close. Del was a complete musician and a "master class" vocalist.. Vally was a gimmick.

  • @88fingers88 Hey Stupid...this is a Frankie Vallie ORIGINAL song...Del Shannon is the gimmick.

  • @88fingers88 Yeah? Come to Newark New Jersey and say that! LOL!

  • man the shit they make musicains do.

  • @/MinamotoAyano You got that right! I was all of 2 years old when this came out and never heard this great song until oldies radio in the late 80s.

Great song. Harmonies as good as the Beach Boys!

  • Great song and what great memories it brings back. Thanks for posting.

  • This song reminds me of how great america used to be. When i was a kid and all the folks down south used to go up north and find great work in the car plants . Jesus christ i am cryin my eyes out.

  • my favorite doo wop song ever!! perfect harmony!!!

  • The best music ever

  • YES THE REMIX OF BEGGIN BY MADCOM IS ORIGINALLY BY FRANKIE VALLI.. HIS VERSION IS GREAT ..LOOK IT UP YOU WILL ENJOY IT.. AWESOME!!!

  • I would rather have a rag doll then a Fat Cow.

  • No, they are from New Jersey.

  • The folk-rock group steeleye span did a fairly faithful version of this gem that's worth having.

  • This song always reminds me of working at the auto parts store when I was in high school. Heard it quite often. That was only back in 2001!!!! :-) Long live the oldies!!!!

  • It's pretty bad when you can sing along with oldies but goodies....but lots of fun! Enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

  • IMHO their very best tune, the four pisanos were the only American band to knock the Brits off the charts.....go seasons four...

  • Hey could someone please tel lme if "Beggin" remixed by Madcom is one of their songs too.

  • @laminage Yes, Beggin is one of their songs...

  • @BobbyColePopMusic Thanks for the info. I live in Canada and believe it or not, K-Tel, the Predecessor to Time-Life Music had Frankie come to Toronto, Ontario to promote an Album featuring The Best Of The Four Seasons. They even got Chubby Checker, as well as the Late Bing Crosby.

  • @laminage yes beggin was orginaly played by the 4 seasons

  • @laminage yes it is and it's superb - not like the modern crappy version

  • This can't be 1964. Where's Nick Massi?

  • @robertdamico1 it could of been in 1965. that's when Joe Long replaced him. enjoy.****

  • Rag Doll then...........................good recycler now!!

No seriously though, touched my heart when it was released and still does today.

  • Just imagine living in the 60's ... oh man, that would be the best! but nooooo ... i was born in the 90's :/

  • @Psych0d3likkk i was born in 1957 so it was just full of fun & lots of morals & respect in life. enjoy. ****

  • Great stuff! Love it.

Left handed bass player on there too...

  • You should check out "jersey boys" the story of frank valli and the four seasons. AMAZING show!

  • i love this song...it's amazing! thank you so much for posting it!!

  • I just wrote an appreciation of The Four Seasons that mentions this song in my Forbes magazine blog called The Culture Mulcher. I consider the band one of the most underrated of all time. Check out the blog--apparently I can't give the URL here, so just Google The Culture Mulcher at Forbes.

  • This is my 2nd favorite all-time 60s group ... I love the music!

  • Rag Doll by Frankie Valli in 1964

  • Remembering my late Daddy who already passed away, i love you dad. Whenever i hear this song i always remembering you. Rest in peace Dad, i love you T_T...

  • @TheBintangnarondang Condolences go out to you. Ilost my Grandfather on Memorial Day and I know what you're going through. May God bless your Father.

  • @laminage thank you, May God Bless Your Grandfather also, Amien.

  • "Such an ugly face... should be sprayed with mace." That's what we used to sing.

  • Good song.. dumb video.

  • WHEN MUSIC WAS UNDERSTANDABLE...................YESTER-YEAR

  • I am a Newarker too born and raised. Everytime I hear this particular song, I think of my days in the local playground blasting WABC AM Radio over the speakers. And for some reason everytime I entered the playground this song would be playing. Nice memories of my days in Newark!!!

  • seen him when he was the opening act for kenny rogers in the 80's in halifax nova scotia

  • Best............

  • This music video is so cute with the couple sitting on top of the stage. It's kind of an epitome of love and harmony.
