  • this guy definatley knows his whisky! Ive used his advise and it really has helped me enjoy my whisky that much more. Just on a side note, the part about the primary tastes, and their locations on the tongue is false. This in fact is not true, and it stemmed from a misunderstanding in a i believe Japanese journal many years ago. And their are 5 tastes now, the 5th being Umami

  • he's creepily into whiskey 1:55

  • @MrFibertiger how is that creepy? He's making sure the whiskey covers his tongue and hold it in his mouth for a few seconds. Gerry Tosh of highland park does something similar when he said to chew, or bite, at the liquid.

  • ChrisNicholsFilm thanks for the comment...appreciated. We will make sure Jeremy...er Charlie gets the message.

  • The man sounds exactly like Jeremy Irons. It's a good thing.

    Excellent video, cheers!

  • Hi Just noticing all the comments. Charlie MacLean is one of the world's leading authorities on whisky. He has written numerous books on the subject, is a sought after speaker, on the selection panel of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and evaluates whisky for many of the major brands. Of course even Charlie admits you drink it how you like it.

  • this guy is the definition of class.

  • Jim murray swears by not adding water to a whisky, I personally have to agree, why would you dilute the flavour? You have saliva in your mouth which does the same job. Everyone is entitled to drink whisky however they like, but me....never add water or ice, let it warm in your hand and enjoy.

  • @Neutrinoghost It is pretty common knowledge that water OPENS the whiskey up... Their not diluting it, merely adding a factor

  • @Neutrinoghost this is scotch, not cognac. never warm scotch in your hand unless you want to get sick on it. i take mine with just a little bit of ice to chill it down. Also, SO different things with water vs. saliva. There are aromas and flavors that open up when you put just a little bit of water in it.

  • wow... someone who actually knows what he is talking about...isn't trying to impress... and who just genuinely enjoys whiskey....... good video.... Kampai...

  • My good sir, thank you.

  • he put way to mush water in with that whisky, flooded it.

  • @steveoplacebo

Yeah he made it look like wine.

  • @steveoplacebo I think that a Scottish just know how to drink a Scotch. He's doing right.

  • @Ichnos76 Ichnos76, Thanks for the comment but i disagree with you, iv visited many different whiskey distillery's all round Scotland and have also researched into the reasons why you add water to whiskey, this is a common error, its called flooding, However if thats the way he wants to drink it then good luck to him.

    PS, his not Scottish.

    Happy drinking dude :)

  • @steveoplacebo

Well...i don't know if he's or not Scottish...he lives in Edinburgh, but it's not important.

He is not the only who add water, everyone i know add some drops, just to have the right taste and sweetness. You can drink also pure without water, but it's too strong.

  • @Ichnos76 Yes Ichnos76 your right you can drink whiskey with water, Thats fine to do, however the hole purpose of adding water to whiskey is to brake open the oils and enhance the flavor, When adding water make sure its pure spring water (not from the tap) and no more then 6 or 7 drops, (dont flood it like the guy in this video. after all 90% of whiskey is water anyway.

    Thanks for the comment Ichnos76

    Happy drinking dude :)

  • @steveoplacebo How do you know? It might have been cask strength. The amount of water depends on your taste plus the starting ABV. ABV also means that your "after all 90% of whiskey is water anyway" misses the mark - ABV. 20 proof, really?

  • i'm living in a hot country, most of the time i put i cube of ice with a part of whiskey.. and try not to get the whiskey taste faded.. by taking out the ice once i get the tempeture i wanted..

  • @scottkiller84

Ice destroys the Whisky...whiskey is a different thing.

  • Thanks for this video. Really learned a thing or two :)
