  • this is the time they really knew about true love

  • big hit when i was a kid, huge on urban radio..the Latin-rock thing was was really flourishing then in 1972. Santana was the biggest name, but you also had El Chicano,Malo, and Tierra and of course War and Mandrill mixing Latin sounds into their Afro-American based music.

  • This song is by far one of the greatest one hit wonders ever to be recorded. Love this song!!! The long version is sweet.

  • These guys are pretty good.

  • @Mustangsally75 Thanks for the comment. Always great to hear from other Michigan people.

Doesn't matter where I go, home is always home.

  • Who is the person singing and playing the timbales wearing the white hat?

  • @calichica10 that is Carlos Santana's little brother Jorge, both grew up in my home town of Tijuana.

  • @calichica10

It's Leo Rosales from San Francisco. A fine musician.Google him......

  • I WANT that bass! Sell it to me!

  • Number one. These guys are CHICANO, not Puerto Rican. Number two, you can't judge the actions of a whole nationality by a few jerks!

  • @Boeing744andRCAquad Really? Which blonde-haired guy in the brass section are Chicano? Or don't they count?

  • @Mustangsally75,,do you have a photo?

  • I heard this song when it first came out, I was in high school at the time. I loved it and have been a Malo fan ever since!

  • Its softly

  • Juan (joke) more time, the definition of suavecito according to a 10 year boy I asked in our local Meijer store,(his parents spoke no english), is Soft. OK, I get it. Suave shampoo. But where does the "Cito" come in? Anyone?

  • @TheMustangsally75 : The term "suavecito" yes it means soft but the "cito" part shows endearment / afection to the person you address the word to...it's kinda using a diminutive of the word but mainly showing affection....in Spanish for example if your name is Jose you would be "Josesito" and so forth...hope this is helpful for you

  • @TheMustangsally75 actually it's a diminutive. In this case it would be like very softly or extra softly.

  • @ibon11

    Thanks for the heads-up!!!

  • Trust me, 2 Jewish husbands & a very long term PUERTO Rican relationship are no different. if they are mama's boys.No matter the size, color, shape, religion or culture! Y can't the mamas grow up &let their sons grow up! Happy New Year & 3 King's Day.

  • @Samproofmyson ... LMAO... Very funny and true, is like that old saying...

  • Very romantic east La Love song

  • Yeah youre right, they do look alike, THANK S, such a wonderful and laid back song, once acclaimed to be the Natl Anthem of hispanics.

  • Which one is Santana s little brother?

  • @rtriplett33 I'm impressed that you don't identify "Jorge Santana",he looks sooo much like Carlos...skiny and tall guys;you can see him @ minute 2:03 at the right of the video with a light blue Shirt and also wearing a vest!...cheers!! :-)

  • @maralfox

Oh YES!!! You would never know this. So glad this was brought to my attention! So where are the guys that actually THINK like these guys sing? Still waiting for one.

  • Up-date on the meaning of Suavecito. I was grcery shopping 2day & saw a young Mex couple. They spoke no Englisgh! Drats! On my way out saw another Mex. couple wiht a boy 8-10 yrs old. They spoke no english as well, but the boy did! Asked him to translate for me. He said it means "Soft". Suave shampoo, I get it. Asked him if he were to say this to his BEST girl it would be a good thing? He schuffled his feet, blushed & said YES! How ackward for him. LOL! Should have asked where the Cito came in.

  • @TheMustangsally75 ....ok, the translation of suavecito song....it's means gently,carefully with love....greetings.

  • @saiya79

Just the SOFTIE in me, but where is he? Thanks for the translation. Spoke w/my X's Tia, 92 years old, she gave me me the loose translaion as well. Yep, she's MY Tia as well!!! I am waiting for the day I can say "I've never met a MAN like you in MY LIFE"!!!

One word here "YEARNING"!!! So much from the heart I can't even begin to explain.

  • BTW, I wish I could just crawl right into my computer screen, ball myself up in the fetal position, & stay there for the rest of "My Life"!!! My knees just buckle when I hear this song!!!

If there is a man out there that treated a woman like these guys sing about, tie him up in a pretty bow& set him on my door-step. I would show the same respect & LOVE to him!

  • @TheMustangsally75 I agree with you. My guy would need to be wrapped in a warm blanket-I'm in the Philadelphia area.

  • @Samproofmyson

Hey, I'm in SE MI!!! Michigan for those of you that STILL don't know the USPS abbreviations! Still waiting! Santa did n't deliver him! I'll take the sleeve-less guy singing back-up. I don't care how old he is now. I was married to man of Mexican heritage. He was a NIGHT-MARE!!! Oh happy NEW YEAR to ,me & U my friend1

  • @TheMustangsally75 Hey! South East MI in the house!

  • @TheMustangsally75 I loved this song since high school. Glad it still makes your knees buckle.

  • i love grown folk musiccc

  • Leo Rosales just did a presentation for my Counseling class at school today! Total Inspiration!

  • going to the chicano soul concert on friday, stay up raza!

  • @frankosknuckles

Perhaps you can help me with question. IDK how much Spanish you know, but can you translate Suavecito into English for me? If you can't, maybe some one else out there can. I have tried several different ways to figure this out with no success. I'm thinking it is a term of endearment, such as Mija, or Mijo. My X husbands' mother was the oldest of 19 kids. Both of his parents were born in Mexico. Last names were Gomez,(Mine), & Munoz. He doesn;t know. HELP!

  • I was married to a man of Mexican heritage. Although he was born in Toledo, OH, his mom was the oldest of19 kids & was born en-route to the states somewhere in Texas. Funn y thing, he never EVER sang anything like this to me, never mind even say it in words. Not all Latinos are Romantics. The one I married is proof of that! He didn't even know what Suavecito meant when I text him today. He said he had heard his Tias call the little kids that. Could it be a term of endearment? Mija,Mijo? ???

  • Why all the white dudes on brass? Were the Marichis on strike that week? he he

  • @TheMustangsally75 I do believe that the trumpet player is Luis Gasca.

  • yo paleskee

  • Favorito Suavecito, Chill, Chills , Memories ........Bella cancione..

  • great great song

  • still one of my all time favorite songs...

  • Nice to cruise in my 53 chevy...!

  • there's a Tejano singer from SAN ANtonio, TX " Jay Perez" who plays this and does a hell of a job!!

  • @fher49

Too bad I live in Michigan!

  • @fher49 . yes he does a decent job, until you compare him to the masters:

MALO. would do tejano a lot of good not to hold on to the past and let the young

geniuses/inovaters move up. might get more international hits. saul: stars above texas music.

  • You are correct the bass player for the Antiques was a stand in for Doug Ranch just for this clip.

  • i saw them way back in the 70's they autographed for me ..wow memorys i was a young teen

  • Love how they had the full percussion station in the front... those guys are usually always in the back! Great song..

  • "....LA la la, LA la la ahhh.....Savecito mi linda" muy bonito!!

  • Ernesto Echeverria Guevarra? NaHHHHH

  • Hey deptdog1 you need to get laid

  • Looks like there's a lot of confusion over this clip, first yes the band MALO was formed by Carlos Santana's brother Jorge and he is the one playing guitar behind the drummer, now one little know fact the bass player in this clip is not the original from the group the one playing here is the bass player from a little know band from Miami named "THE ANTIQUES", his name is Ramon Julio Garganta, who went on to work production with Santana and other big named stars.

  • @ranuker let me set the record straight arcelio garcia lead vocalist formed the group he brought in all the musicians. and pablo tellez was the original bassist he then went on to play w santana in 76!

  • Che Guevara was a murderer. He was also racist, read up on what he said about blacks(he said that they were:lazy, drink) Please look it up LIBS.

  • Is he wearing a Kangol Hat...Damn, Suavacito!

  • Comment removed

I can remember hearing this music coming from someone's transistor radio on WQAM and mixing with beach sounds, people laughing, children playing the waves and seagulls and an air plane pulling a banner up and down the coast!! I loved this song!

  • This song came out in the spring and by summer it was everywhere here in Chicago.

It still makes me think of summer.

  • Wow, that retro sucked, no wonder Malo bit the dust. They didn't listen to Santana enough. . I began singing it to myself for no good reason,so I had to look it up I listen to it all, so don't give me that "If you don't like it don't listen to it" crap. You give your worthless opinion, and I give mine.

  • I grew up in the Northeast, and had never heard this song until I moved to Southern California in 2000. Needless to say, L.A. rocks!

  • What makes this so great is the way you can hear the talents of the pianist, Richard Kermode, who also played with Janis Joplin. I understand he was well liked and respected, but unfortunately passed away some time ago. RIP Richard. Everyone here did a great job on a classic tune.

  • Sugar Ray's song "Fly" samples this song.

  • What a beautiful song..Muy buena cancion...!!!

  • this song is oldies defanitley (:

  • Looking for CAFE, NENA and Momotombo; anyone has a video to upload?

  • i love this song so much!!

  • i chose this song to sing for my children as their lullabye...so many beautiful memories...

  • Anyone know what show this is from?

  • I have 500 vinyl albums incuding Malo's which depicts what looks like a Mayan man with a woman with her eyes closed in his arms. Side 1 has Pana, Just Say Goodbye and Cafe. Side 2 has Nena, Suavecito and Peace. The album was released in 1971 on Warner Bros Records. Most people aren't familar with the song or group until its played. Great tune.

  • @javelin1010 Me too. I loved that album cover as well as the music inside it. The 70's had some good music Buddy Miles - Down by the River; Chicago - Beginnings, Tower of Power, etc., etc.

  • Happy Birthday Jorge!
