  • Probably the conductor need a wc...

  • and the conductor.... his conducting skills are crazy... i can not see a clear 3/4 conducting technique

  • @dancermadchen77 it's because he's showing the music, not the 3/4 ;)

  • They're having the orchestra's conductor conduct this, I'm guessing? Rather than whoever specifically works with the choir? He's giving them entrance cues, but next to no cutoffs... cutoffs are just as important as entrances to keep a piece sounding clean! Plus, the conducting is kind of erratic, like the typical orchestra conductor... I know this because I also play cello in addition to sing...

  • + for technique and sound, but big - for tempo. Kyrie is so calm and steady, but you killed the spirit of this part. Too bad...

  • ack... das ist viel zu schnell...

  • Lovely and very good solo. Thanks.

  • too fast... "TEMPO" is accelerated too, looks like a military march, not the "Schubert Kyrie."..!!

  • Right! And it's also just two notes...

  • yes but those high notes are a lot harder to sing then you know!!

    beleive me I KNOW!!!!!!

  • @mortenbh its not just two notes--¬¬

  • lol... kinda harsh it is classical music lol

  • @bugr88

It's custom in classical choir music, especially when doing a mass or oratorio, to hold music throughout the piece, solo or otherwise. If you notice she barely looks at the music if at all.

  • @Throwthebones15

    *customary

  • @bugr88 yep, it's actually standard practice for requiems, oratorios, Mass's etc...for the soloist to have the music. It's sort of like a prop. :)

  • @bugr88 no its not it actually looks professional if you know what that is!

  • the tempo is good !! my god!!

  • oh my goodness this is the song my choir is singing!!!!!!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LUV IT!!!!!!!!!!!! i want the solo soooo bad... but considering there's only 2 or 3 pplz tryin out... i think i hav a pretty good chance,... LUV THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • my HS madrigal choir sang this song for a concert. i wanted to get the solo but i didn't get it :( i also love the Credo.

  • This is faster than most performances but not wrong. The usual tempo makes too much of local things, wringing them out for all they are worth. Here, the phrases as musical structures themselves and their relation to each other creates an overall picture of the movement, which is the beauty and simplicity of the litany. Very good interpretation and phrasing.

  • you make a good point, but I like the slower tempo because its more expressive of the phrase, remember we are asking the Lord to have mercy!!!!

  • @loaactnow Isn't two minutes and fifty seconds long enough to ask the Lord for mercy? I've learned that interpretation must take into account the picture of the overall piece. It is not only what is happening at the moment. Loooooooooooooooooooooooorrdd, haaaaaaaaaavee mmmeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrccyyyyyyyyyyyyyy isn't the idea of the music, I don't think. thanks for your comment though.

  • I agree with the rushing and the clothing comments, but I'll still take this recording over some of the other terrible high school choirs!

  • Can someone give me details where I can find the English translation please?

  • Kyrie Eleison

    Christe Eleison

    Kyrie Eleison

    Lord have Mercy

    Christ Have Mercy

    Lord have mercy

  • So muss das klingen :)

  • Seems slightly rushed in my opinion... Too bad since the choir is very good and could have easily pulled it off slower:) but I guess its the conductors interpretation.

  • yeah i agree, way too fast - my conductor does that alot

  • *Definitely* rein in the soprano parts! The surrounding surfaces are far too acoustically "hard" and bounce the high notes out of balance to the other parts. A bright, up-tempo piece of work here - perhaps not a suitable tempo for the piece. OTOH, amateur choruses tend to be too "draggy" - find a nice balance. On the whole, visually superb setting, acoustically horrible setting, but a nice performance of a work surpassed in beauty, IMO, only by the Allegri/Mozart "Miserere".

  • good quality group, but sopranos are too loud. soprano soloist have a pretty voice. The way master conducts is really exciting and easy the musicians to follow even do what he wants to be done.

  • Sehr schöne Aufnahme, sehr schöne Interpretation und grossartige Solistin. Für meinen Geschmack etwas zu schnell. Noch etwas mehr geniessen!

  • aber die bläser fehlen :(

  • Diese Messe hat im Original keine Bläser, nur Streicher: Violine1/2, Viola, Cello, Bass.

  • We're playing this in my orchestra, too. We're trying to take it just a little slower than this. Our concert is Wednesday; joy. Lol. It seems like the chorus is way too loud, drowning out the orchestra too much. Just my opinion though; it's probably the style?

  • im playign this in highschool i think we're playing it a bit slower though

why do all these churches have to look like streets...

  • J'admire la superbe voix de la soprano.

Le choeur est excellent, les voix bien réparties quant au tempo, il me convient.

    Je l'ai chanté à Rennes voici 25 ans ;-))

    Philippe

  • a little too fast... I think it's prettier slower

  • i personally prefer it faster. it may be because everytime i've heard it slower it's always been a high school orchestra or choir that isn't as highly skilled

  • The original score (available free from Choral Public Domain Library) marks the Kyrie as "Andante con moto", tempo 72. This performance is "Allegro ma non troppo" at a tempo of 120+! One could perhaps overlook that on the Gloria, but it is far too fast for the Kyrie. Possibly we are being treated to a performance of the Schubert Mass in G for those with busy schedules and not much time to spare! ;-) But the pronounced up-tempo performance *does* negatively affect the majesty of the work...

  • Absolutely agreed... we performed the Sanctus quite allegretto grazioso and the Gloria moderato, but the remainder was quite stately. To each their own, I guess. :)

  • and the "clothes" of the conductor does the negatevely affect of the work more negatively...

  • in effetti è davvero troppo veloce! :)

  • precioso!!
