You can get excellent popularthings, like seinfeld, but you you can also get generic pap which becomes very popular too- like 'how I met your mother'. The opposite is true, not just for shows, but for any form of art. There will always be certain examples of arguably high quality which are just aren't popular. Probably because they just aren't accessible enough to most people. I think most people aren't discerning enough.
