Yea, you can use them just for listening to the sound. Its just that you can't use the mic because there is no USB cord to connect to the PS3 to use the mic.

they're surround sound but not nearly as high quality as x41's. you should get x31's instead. only like 40$ more, and it's wireless, x1's irritate the hell outa me. worst thing i ever bought, had to get it replaced multiple times. X31's are the way to go!

Yes, the sound plays through both speakers. If it doesn't, yours is defective or you didn't set it up right. And it is supposed to still come out of your speakers. If you don't want it to just turn down your T.V.. That's what I do.
