forgive my New Zealand accent (and how we spell) but it took me me over a dozen listens to realise he says 'Contain' because all i could hear was 'Cunt-ing'.and that's no joke
@iThinkThereforeiCan I believe that there are parallels between the 2 and a comparison is warranted. Both gained recognition relatively around the same time. Both make folk or folk inspired music in a time which that particular style of music is not widely celebrated in the mainstream however both have garnered a national or international fanbase. And I believe that FF not only make the higher quality of music but seem to be focused on that quality of music and not preoccupied with gaining fame
@TheLebowski5 On 'gaining fame' that is merely a perception of yours, they gain fame as inadvertant side-effect to being GOOD. Personally, while I understand your point, I try not to compare - but, Fleet Foxes have 2 albums, 1 more than M&S.
So I just was told that Fleet Foxes was apparently nominated for a Grammy but DIDN'T win...
music legends that never won a grammy:
The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, The Who.....
Just to name a few.
So in conclusion, most of the people that vote for the Grammy's wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the ass. But then again what can you expect from a world where the cast of “Glee” has had more songs chart than the Beatles?...
Fleet foxes are mother nature's growing child and there growing..BIGGER & BIGGER just like the trees and the flowers and the love and the happieness. Peace
Not sure how many of you listen to j. tillman's solo work (drummer/singer of this great band) but I did a cover of one of his songs, if anyone has nothing better to do, and that's really the only reason you should waste your time watching it, you might could give it a view and let me know what you think. Thanks a lot!
Fleet Foxes, you are my road trip playlist. I hear your music going down the road and I feel like I'm going to cry sometimes, because it makes me so happy to feel so at peace. I don't believe in a heaven or a hell, but I feel like I'm in heaven when I hear your beautiful voices and instruments. Thank you for being around in my lifetime.
I hope you have REALLY great success, because your music is beautiful and really hard to not appreciate! Please keep making new music for me and the rest of us.
@Bubblesv2 mate what a lovely comment . its nice to know there are still genuinely nice people out there especially when you can be anonymous ( we all know how easy it is to be a dick head when you are unknown) anyhow peace bro x
@Bubblesv2 I completely agree. Everytime I listen to Fleet Foxes, and especially in my car, I feel peace, joy, inspiration, wonder, all these happy feelings. Their music makes me reflect on past experiences, the good times and the bad. I cannot describe what their music does me, but I can only say that it makes me grateful to be alive and breathing and know that there is good in the world.
i love how they are from seattle, i can relate with almost every soundtrack just by imagining it in my head, "apples in the summer all cold and sweet" :)
i love how people listen to this and they leave these romantic extremely insightful and thoughtful comments, i guess Fleet Foxes just have that effect on everyone
I just saw them in Ann Arbor and anxiously awaited the sound of that jangly guitar that sounds like the waves, the opening harmonies and the slamming of the acoustic...when it began, I nearly burst from emotion. This song makes you really feel like you're on this wave and Robin's voice is carrying you. All of their music is beautiful and it was great show...and I just want to hug all of you people who keep their music alive because it does need to stay that way. Keep listening!
Isn't this section for all comments positive and negative? Or did I mistake where it says All Comments and not just Positive ones? I enjoy the group very much but people are entitled to there own opinions.
I wrote a long paragraph because i felt angry about your unneeded comment. i listen to this amazing music like the others commenting to you. they agree that the fleet foxes are great. if you disagree thats great. go take it somewhere else. and i heard ears are on sale at target ;)
@rg813 wow you have no taste in music. the fleet foxes make absolutely beautiful music and they use harmonies that you can't always find with out autotune. they are real and talented musicians. the have their own original sound, and their acoustics are great sounding! so even if your not into their music, then just mind your own fucking business, because no one cares for your rude comments here. maybe if you hate them so much you shouldn't be watching this video. get a life
This was the song I played just before my viva. It gives a feeling of possibility - a now or never state of mind. For a life changing event, it was perfect sound to go into a discussion on my work that had taken me 8 years to write.
Their music is a beautiful landscape unto itself, my mind crreates it's own nature video to this song! Having recently been to some incredible lush National Parks in the State of Washington, I have plenty of visuals to choose from! This song haunts me!
@tristanblanded OMG YES. Fleet foxes always reminded me of where the wild things are but i could never put my finger on what type of "style" it is. Kind of like bleak fantasy. ya know?
This song opened their set at Pitchfork2011. I don't know if you play in a band or are a musician, but this just about trumps everything out there in the music world. If you are a drummer, playing this beat is easy--it's a march. But all the rest of what the drummer does is incredibly difficult. Pure poetry. Destroyer of Worlds.
laurenemque, you're just as contrived as this song. this sucks. I wish I was surprised at this downhill turn of fleet foxes, but it's like, this it what one should expect from a faux-folk band from seattle. lol
Does this song make anyone else wanna run barefoot at dawn through a huge open field, damp with dew, so fast your lungs feel like they're gonna burst? And as you pick up momentum you suddenly sprout wings and take to the sky?... or is that just me?
@laurenemque I feel exactly like that but its like your running through the open hill till you reach the cliff nd just jump as you descend downwards you spread out your wings nd begin to soar over the open sea
@ZLOVEDREAMS Thank you! Well, actually thank FF. They're the geniuses. They're the ones that bring up all these feelings in just one four and a half minute song and yet it can mean something totally different to so many people. THAT'S amazing :) To me anyway...
While their first album had more of a dream-like quality this one does less transcending away from troubles and more settling into reality. There's been some hoopla about this album being more boring, but really, I think sometimes people don't want to listen to music to hear about the deeper side of the human mind which most often, does not involve resilient states of happiness. Scuse the paragraph, just had to express my oppinion to the world of youtube.
@gbcktbug - no need to scuse your paragraph; your comments are quite valid. I'm just about to investigate the first album, since i've discovered this band in reverse order. I'll keep what you said in mind & see if i agree.
@uKooKu The first album was definitely better, but this one is awesome too. I think the first one had better lyrics and harmonies. Look for the song Oliver James off of that one. Also, their EP Sun Giant was top notch too. I'm sure you have heard Mykonos off of it before. Their first Ep is good too, but its more pop oriented. If you are looking for any other bands of this type Grizzly Bear is pretty damn good too.
i think this song is brilliant and i like the sound of their new album. i do not think they sound like they are imitating themselves, just a slightly different vibe
You know, this might just be my impression, but it sounds like they are trying to immitate their own sound. It sounds weird, but like, it doesn't have that feel that Sun Giants had, where it was THEIR sound, not a reproduction of it, like listening to old Kings of Leon vs new Kings of Leon. Granted in this case that the worst of Fleet Foxes is still 500 billion times better than the best of Kings of Leon.
Totally agree you. Its like they have kept the elements they are known for and impressed them on the songs. The songs don't feel organic but rather like they know their sound and have written to showcase that rather than the songs could stand on their own without the trappings. I need to listen a to them a lot more and let it wash over me but they sound like the song remains but the melody has left them?
@mcf59 Yeah, it's like in their first album, they were writing about the town they live in, and in this album, they are writing about the town they used to live in, as if they still live there even though they don't. if you know what I mean. It's like like instead of sounding like themselves, they sound like Fleet Foxes. And yeah, the Melody, and even the instrumental diversity seems to be missing. And those were the things I loved most about them.
@IvonoftheGWF I noticed this too. Some of their first melodies were like haunting dirges, so striking and memorable you couldn't shake them off. Like something a little genre-defying straggler band would sing around a campfire. I suppose they've learned which boxes to tick to attract people. I miss them when they didn't have to tick any.
@IvonoftheGWF Would I be in danger of offending if I say that what they are missing this time is some good old fashioned "hooks". Some melodic phrases that resonate like Mykonos or Winter Hymnal. I'm gonna give the album time to sink in a bit but right now I agree it's a little flat. The old sophmore album curse, I guess.
@terrybeaton Fleet Foxes wanted this album to sound less "poppy" (read: melodic) for a reason. They didn't want to fall into the routine of generating melody after melody that would encapsulate anyone and everyone. They don't want to be that band that gives the audience what the audience wants. They want their sound to grow and develop and resonate amongst old fans but delve into territory that's unfamiliar to them.
so tempted to download the album right now but i am pretty sure i can wait another two weeks to get it on vinyl. will the band see a whole lot of the money from album sales? probably not, but anyone not doing their part to support music like this is a jabroni.
forgive my New Zealand accent (and how we spell) but it took me me over a dozen listens to realise he says 'Contain' because all i could hear was 'Cunt-ing'.and that's no joke

@IvonoftheGWF

IvonoftheGWF 10 months ago

The old sophmore album curse, I guess.
terrybeaton 10 months ago
