  • block partys back in the days

  • So I'm at a local disco in 1977/78 - it's somebody's party or reception. I love this song, so I ask the DJ if he has it. He says yes, but if he plays it, will I dance? He'll hold me to it he says. Of course, I say, expecting that something so funky will get everybody up and boogying. So the song starts, and nobody moves! The DJ is looking at me expectantly. So I get up and dance. And I can't dance. And I'm a 19-year old out-moded hippie! Still, I enjoyed myself!

  • @whyteaugust Funny! and I still can't dance even when something as good as this comes on. Fantastic tuneFantastic times!!!

  • this song still sets a dance floor on fire, but back in the day, the whole building would explode when this track when into the percussion break & b4 the bass line hit dj's with skills used to back it up to that hard ass measure just b4 the percussion hit again & the room would roar. but my favorite part is the mid section starting at about 4:20 when they just repeat the chorus & the lead singers is givin' call & response adlib! i can't take it. my head crack'd open & my brains r pouring out...

  • Just reiterating what I said a year ago about this monster trak.

Was the biggest disco chune of 1977. When that pause came followed by the synth kickin in (6.18) the floor went fukkin mental !

  • Do What You Wanna Do..... ??? I'm dancing♫♪ Thanks for this one!!!

  • @cheyennebritbrat ive got a 12 inch but its not a vinyl X=] rofl

  • @slkr99 ,,,,,,,pmsl...you play it, ill hum it

  • 1977 - wendy hunt spinning at 1270 and bostonboston clubs. playing this on two and sometimes three turntables ... unbelievable. IMO, just one of the funkiest, rockin'est, highest energy early fusion dance tunes of the day. and there were many, many great songs to groove within the late 70's. folks who lump it all under the 'disco' heading are missing the nuance, seems to me. thanks for posting this recording!

  • To clear things up The place where you danced was called a disco: The music was FUNK!!!! so called disco music and the saturday night movie just helped ruin FUNK music!!! No funk bands now only the rappers in their singularity making money.

  • thanks for this ...

  • One of my favourite disco/funk tracks from the era. The most amazing drumming that did what it was meant to do and get people on the dancefloor. Absolutely love it! :-)

  • God, this is so Beautiful Discofunk track! I've searching this for a long time. Thanks a Lot!!!:-)))

  • When I bought this in 1977, I couldn't have imagined it would have played over 52000 times by people with computers, 33 years later! that said, this vinyl 12" was heard around London in discos and on JFM. People used to go mental on the dancefloor to this....

  • Mark, I bought the 12" in 1977 and agree with your comments; the viewing count now exceeds 60,000. This was very popular at Bangs at The Sundown (Charing Cross Road), Global Village (The Strand) and KingsWest (Brighton).

  • @fastflyer2007 You have just made a happy man very old haha!

I was in Berlin in 77 and the Germans went NUTS for disco,

happy memories, happy days, thank you for posting, regards!

  • @fastflyer2007

I've already commented on this trak but worth doin it again!

I remember it was voted best disco trak of '77. I, too still hav my vinyls.

The start of the final build-up at 5.30 got everyone goin and when that synth kicked in at 6.20 the floor went fukkin mental.

And aaaah ! JFM ! Those weekends of Greg & Robbie & LWR & JFM !!

    Just brilliant.

  • Actually, you'd call this R&B, because of The Stylistics, Delfonics, people singing in falsetto, but disco sounds nicer to me.

  • @fastflyer2007 thanks for posting this ,searching for it and now I got the feeling from1977-OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!

  • @fastflyer2007

Thanks for posting. man i would have loved to have checked out the club scence in London back in those days.

I hung out at the Loft and the Paradise Garage back in those days and it was outrageous but the Brits were also dacin to the same stuff so and the imports that I was buying from the UK were off the charts so i imagine that it as a wonderful time as well. Peace, my friend.

  • Turn the music up up up. Oh mi god there's life in the old dog yet. Now in heaven for the rest if Saturday/the weekend. Thank you Fastfly xxxxxxx

  • My pleasure.

  • In a year absolutely LOADED with disco classics (Devil's Gun/Disco Inferno/Supernature/Got To Give It Up), this was one of the very best.

Almost forgot the 11:00+ minute epic San Francisco/Hollywood by the Village People.

  • The Best Funk Drumming ever in the

  • Queens, NY in da house! Nice jam!

  • Look, the real song star 4:22 I'm going do crazy

  • OMG - Brillinat! You have just made me feel really old by realising that I can't dance to this for the full 7 minutes like I used to as a teenager in Hitchin Hertfordshire! This used to come on, along with Boogie Oogie Oogie, (A Taste of Honey) and we'd all fill the dance floor "freakin'" out - Oh the good times! Thankyou - have downloaded to my ipod :)

  • @Larkstulip I was just down the road from you in Royston, wondering with my 12-yr schoolboy mind where does all this endlessly funky stuff come from?? lol Taste of Honey was memorable, though I remember; Rose Royce, Gibson Brothers, (and a guilty pleasure of Baccara ;) and a particular group who kept drawing me in with some sublime grooves.......take a bow CHIC!!!!

    fastflyer2007 - thanks for posting...I'm liking this a lot!!

  • DAYUMMMM ! I haven't heard this cut since I was in high school. Thank you for sharing.

  • Did they ever follow this beauty..? All the subtlety of a brick thru a window - LOVE IT!!!
