  • @sunshine34ification the fact it covers so manny floors and its built into the walls buffers the noise quite a bit...so yeah its quiet but if it were built outside the walls or even in a really big church it would be really loud..

  • lol, "have you always played in womans clothes?" i thought the world was going bad, abd know i know we've got a trannsvestite Organist.

  • I hate this organ -- the 'worlds largest' and also the 'words quietest organ' -- this organ has been played at 1/20th its intended volume since forever - reason: its inside a department store - this is the cock-tease of all organs - your local church organ is more loud and grand.

  • @sunshine34ification because it covers seven floors if you even payed attention...

  • @bricksquad9552

I dont give a fuck how many floors it covers, my point remains the same - ITS QUIET! (if YOU even payed attention..)

  • @mannymora67 you probably don't care, but you seem like an extremely rude and unlikable person. just a personal impression.

  • @mannymora67 Thankfully its not in a mall, its in the beautiful old Wanamaker's department store, built in 1910.

  • @cool45010

    Whats a wanamaker's market?

  • @mannymora67 Wanamaker's was a Philadelphia department store. Google "Wanamaker's" and click on the Wikipedia link for more info.

    .

  • @mannymora67

Being a Cathedral Organist myself, I agree its is wrongly installed in a shopping mall. Such instruments are meant to be in Cathedrals only.

  • @rajdeep218

What a waste of an instrument. The shoppers may not be even listening to the music.

  • @rajdeep218 I know right?haha theres no point to it and idk why they put it in a mall and not a church thats where theyre mostly all used

What cathedral do you play at?

  • @mannymora67

Nice to know you are in the choir, What part do you sing ? Are you preparing yourself for piano music exams from say Trinity College of Music or The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London

  • @rajdeep218 Well i dont really sing supremo or tenner etc. everyone just sings to the melody of the song although i do sing Psalms and I also sing the verse for the acclamation. And i have took that in consideration but i have a keyboarf and its a 76 key soo idk what i can learn since standard pianos are 88 key:/

  • @mannymora67

In response to your email, I am the organist of St. Paul;s Cathedral in Ranchi a county in India. This organ is about 115 years old and houses about 710 working pipes, The bellow which powers the pipe organ is a size bigger than a double bed. This organ lay redundant for 30 years from 1975 to 2005 for want of a qualified organist. Finally it was restored to to its past glory in 2005 when I took over as the Organist. Itt is played every sunday but only for church music

  • @rajdeep218 Woah thats awesome:D and thats an old organ haha

  • @mannymora67 Yes it is ~ but there are many organs in the world which date back to the 19th century and they are still being used. some in Germany. I am from India and there are not more than 16 organs which are regularly used for church services.Maintenance are cost prohibitive and there are few people who have the expertise to maintain them. So they all die a natural death.

You seem to be interested in music. Where do you hail from ?

  • @rajdeep218 And once the dont work do they just not use them anymore? And yeah i am im in my church choir and im learning how to play piano.

  • @mannymora67 .....because this is a theatre organ!!! Built to play a LOT more than 'Abide with me'

If I lived in Philadelphia I would shop there every week!!!

Many of the best organs are in public buildings -

Convention Hall AC, Sydney Town Hall Australia, Albert Hall London, St Georges Hall, Liverpool etc etc.

  • @southshorestephen Its not like abide with me is the only song churches play.

Aaaaand if its a theatre organ THEN WHY IS IT NOT IN A THEATRE thats a more useful place.

Aaaand how many of the worlds best organs are in churches and cathedrals? Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, The Crystal Cathedral, Cathedral of Notre Dame, St. Patrick's Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral, Basilica of St. Joseph's Oratory i could go on and one forever:)

    Soo yeah its still pointless

  • @mannymora67 Learn more about John Wanamaker and the Wanamaker Organ.

  • @danielmkubacki Wooow really? I dont need to know about Wanamaker to relize that and organ is at waste by not being at a theatre or church/cathedral.

  • @mannymora67 Because, like they say in the video, "the bigger the audience, the bigger the bussiness".... Nowadays you would put on the radio in shops, but because the radio was just invented that time and not used the way we use it now they, they placed an organ instead. As you could also hear they say 'a prominent place in retail history' . Can you find the point now?

  • @superfiskHT Sure whatever dont really give a crap about what you have to say(:

  • @mannymora67

its not in a 'mall' its a department store and its been there since the 1930's! (both the organ and the department store now named macys - used to be called 'John Wannamakers')

  • @sunshine34ification So John Wannamaker was a organ builder?

  • @mannymora67

no he was a dude who had a department store named after him.

  • @sunshine34ification Well what did the department store sell?

  • @mannymora67

the same stuff you would find in any departments store.. mens, womens, kids, shoes, jewerly, perfume, electronix, carpets, fur, jackets, optrician department, ice cream, etc..

  • @sun Oh.

  • @mannymora67 didn't know that an organ was only useful in a church.

here I thought it was some kind of musical instrument. Guess I was wrong, it's just a dusty piece of monastic architecture

  • @Rotard12a I mean it could only be used in churches i just dont find it very useful being at a store.

  • @mannymora67 If you are as religious as you advertise yourself to be, then you should acknowledge that the voice of praise should be available to all, not simply to those who visit places approved by "mannymora67"

If you want another organ, build one. This one stays here.

  • @Rotard12a I never said anything about that.(;

That has nothing to do with what i said lol. And since when did i say i wanted another orga? You make no sense you act like i said something like "Oh this organ should be at my church and only people i want to see it can see it"

And personaly what you said made no sense about what i was talking about okay?;)

  • Holy shit

  • I'd love to learn to play the pipe organ before I die.

  • 28,000+ pipes. sheesh.

  • What would happen if you were standing back there on those little paths between all the pipes while the organ was playing? I bet it would be super loud!

  • WOMANS SHOES???

  • 0:00 to skip ad

  • im using this for a school assignment :P

  • The wanamaker organ in philedelphia is the worlds biggest organ if you count wheight and the number of ranks. But the atlantic city auditorium organ is the biggest organ if you count the number of pipes. And I like the atlantic city organ more because that one has a full length 64' stop and the wanamaker organ hasn't.

  • play the biggest and loudest tones on 1:16 :D that thing is too big, who could handle that number of knobs:-O

  • What make of organ is this?

  • I want to go to that store.

  • whats the song at 0:24

  • Peter Cunt-eh

How much for one of these? like a hundred bucks or something?

  • @whoiswhobutwho troll

  • That is NOT the biggest pipe organ in the world. The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles has over 35,000 pipes. There's a school there and I used to go there. I had to go there every Monday for one of our classes.

  • @Randourum yea it is the biggest, deal with it

  • @Randourum That is not true. What's your source for those 35,000 pipes? It is being enlarged all the time, but I didn't know they where anywhere near 25,000 yet, let alone 10,00 more. There are only 2 contenders for the biggest organ prize, and that are this one and the Auditorium Organ in Atlantic city. The last is not working at this time, but is the only one in the world with over 30,000 pipes.

  • Fox played his own version of "Come Sweet Death" to show off the organ's breadth and power. His colleagues thought he was virtually insane for trying it. Many urged him not to do it. It took him two weeks of practice. The result was what probably is the best single performance of any pipe organ ever. There is a DVD or the recording with a psychedelic kaleidoscope rendering. Its awesome.

  • a fun prank to pull...wait till someone is up in the rafters next to all those pipes...then mash the keys lol

although theres a chance the guy wouldnt be able to hear very well for a while...

  • apparently, it's a large organ.

  • It would be great if they would SHUT UP so we can HEAR the organ.. GOD DAMN

  • @DoomSwitch it's an advertisement, they want you to waste your damn money to fly up to the damn organ

  • @SBernardoni1991 Damn It!

  • thumbs down for the ad

  • I'd walk in, sit down, and play Toccatta and Fugue in D Minor on that bitch XD

  • This is actually not the biggest pipe organ. The biggest pipe organ in the world is in the Atlantic City Convention Hall.

  • I'm sooo getting a pipe organ built in my house.......

  • playing the piano is easy, but playing the organ takes so much skill in multitasking... the musicians have to play the notes on the keyboard, then play the pedals, and also turn on the knobs... ive taken lessons for two years, and i quit because the frustration and concentration was too much to take

  • @CsRBeast I've been learning the synth and keyboard all my life. If a massive 6 keyboard organ was right in front of me. I wouldn't know where to begin.

  • KILLE' M ALL!!! the ads.

  • I don't want to know if it takes two to tango...

  • As an official old fart (60) I recall when this store was known as Wanamaker's (spelling) This of course was many years before the homoginization of American retail courtesy of Macys. A pox on 'em.

  • I have a video with the picture of the world's largest pipe organ in Atlantic City!

  • ad my commercial i was like... OMG, IT'S DANNY CRANE! but then.... it was an ad..

  • Omfg not only it was an add but it laged!

  • A 2 minute ad is too much. Loose it.

  • Not the largest in the world. That is in Atlantic City, with thirty three thousand pipes. More then any other pipe organ in the world. Check the Guiness book of records!

  • @itsme55100

You are right about this. The organ in Macy's is definitely large but not the largest as they claim. It IS the one in Atlantic City but I believe that one is not playable at this time as I have read some place. Too bad because it is awesome too.

  • Not the largest in the world. That is in Atlantic City, with thirty three thousand pipes. More then any other pipe organ in the world.

  • He's an "organist."

  • 0:01

  • Isn't this store another Macy's takeover? If so, what's the name of the real store that actually bought / built the pipe organ in 1911?! I know in Chicago, we would bristle vehemently if a TV spot covered our "Macy's" downtown store without at least mentioning that it was Marshall Field's proud flagship store for over a century before Macy's bought out Marshall Field's.

  • to the people who takes care of this pipe organ: have fun tuning 20000+ pipes.

  • Comment removed

  • fuck ads

  • Great video! Drop the ads!

  • first off conte dosnt know how to play this organ. second this is not the worlds largest instrument. please cbs take it down. this whole video is a lie. the atlantic city organ is the largest. 7 manuals with 33,114 pipes instead of 28,000+. yea shure atlantic city really isnt playing but they are starting to restore it. once the organ is complete wanamaker day will turn into atlantixc city. to hear the worlds largest and loudest instrument ever created by man kind.

  • @notredameswarrior1 dude the pipe organ is different than a hall organ. there are jazz organs, pipe organs ,hall organs etc, this is the largest pipe not hall. the hall in atlantic is the largets hall organ not pipe.

  • @darkmusicofthenight dude the atlantic city organ is the largest freacon pipe organ ever constructed by man kind. its a pipe organ look it up. 33,000+ pipes

  • fuck you mr. advert

  • It's a heck of a lot better than the canned stuff played in most stores!

  • EXTREME ABUSE PUT THIS STUPID COMERCIAL BEFORE!!!!!!!!

  • As far as I know, the biggest pipe organ in the world is in Atlantic City. Am I wrong?

  • @shark1305 Nope, you are correct.

  • @casino555 Thanx for the confirmation. Love the sound of these instruments!

  • The Wanamaker organ is larger now. More pipes have been added.

  • @danielmkubacki The Wanamaker organ has less pipes than the Atlantic City organ. Wanamaker's has more ranks, but the AC definately has MORE pipes.

  • @casino555 Atlantic City has a 5 manual keyboard with 33112 pipes in 455 ranks (most of which DOES NOT WORK).... Wanamaker has a 6 manual with 28543 pipes in 462 ranks (which ALL WORKS).

  • Comment removed

  • @jber20 CORRECTION!!! The Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ has 1.235 stops in total, 33.114 pipes and a 7 manual console (which is placed near the stage). But it has also a 5 manual console in the lobby of the Boardwalk Hall for display.

it has the loudest voice of an instrument ever(the 100 inch Grand Opheicle), and 1 of the 2 REAL 64" stops in the world.

Indeed is the Wanamaker organ the largest PLAYABLE organ but the place of LARGEST ORGAN will always be: The AC convention Hall Organ

  • @xpQ2ng dude this is a pipe organ, not a hall organ. a pipe organ is different that that one in atlantic.

  • @darkmusicofthenight Both the wanamaker and atlantic city organs are PIPE organs. The atlanic city organ is largest.

  • @darkmusicofthenight

it's just as 3dwurli says(thumbs up!): they both have pipes don't they? don't be ridiculous with: "macy's is a pipe organ and accco is a hall organ":S:S BULL SHIT!. so even as macy's organ is in a department store and atlantic city is placed in a hall... THEY ARE BOTH STILL PIPE ORGANS!!!!

  • @jber20 just fully listen to this hymn on the Atlantic City Convention Hall Organ.

it goes from the softest voice on the organ to Full Tutti.(except for percussian, but all pipes possible were used).

JUST LISTEN AND DARE TO SAY AGAIN THAT MOST RANKS OF THE ORGAN DON'T WORK!!!!

TYPE: abide with me atlantic city convention hall organ

  • @xpQ2ng most of the ranks on the atlantic city convention hall organ DONT work. Only 132 (out of 449 ranks) were working when that recording was made.

  • @3dwurli first: where did you get that information that only 132 out of 449 ranks were working when that recording was made? second: if thats true, than it is amazing because, listen how massive it sounds...immagine how it would sound at full tutti!!!.

even if many ranks aren't working now, the pipes still excist, they are still in the organ chambers, THERE ARE STILL OVER 33,314 PIPES IN THE ORGAN.

MACY'S MAYBE IS FULLY PLAYABLE BUT AAC'S CONVENTION HALL ORGAN REMAINS THE BIGGEST!!!!!!

  • @jber20 And AC's is the biggest... just what I said before.

  • @jber20 But the Atlantic City organ is still the larger of the two.

  • @casino555 Yeah, WAY BIGGER! i fact, when everything was working and they plugged every pipe into 1 keyboard, ice 100FT away shattered. Amazing, isnt it?

  • @scoobydoorocks10 Amazed? Nah. Expected is more like it.

  • The commercial? No THANKS.

  • ads keep getting longer....>.<

  • I understand that his organ was first playedat the 1904

St. Louis Worlds Fair. The organ was sold to Mr. Wanamaker

who installed it in his department store in Philadelphia,

PA in 1911. Through the years many more ranks of pipes were

added to make this one of the most beautiful organs in the world.

Ten years ago I was honored to hear this organ played.

  • why couldn't this be in an amazing cathedral somewhere instead of..... *sigh* ...fucking macy's?

  • 30 second ad for this shit??? bogus cbs....bogus

  • christ 6 manuals

  • I'm here to lay some pipe...BOW CHICKA BOW WOW!

  • suggestions; a great set of pipes o_o

  • I want to play it.

    TUTTI STYLE !!!

  • 20 minutes to load the fucking ad?

  • Thumbs up if you couldn't watch the video because the ad wouldn't load.

  • @sireofzelda Get ad block plus for firefox

  • @theiceman259 Sad thing is, I have it. But I got past that problem.

  • @sireofzelda Sorry, what?

  • lol what would happen if one of the pipes broke and they had to find it

  • @Muirselgas

What you describe is called a cipher when a valve fails. The usual short term solution is to actually pull the pipe out of its mount. I know it happened when I was a kid in church. Everybody was looking at the organist like it was her fault. But as president of the state AGO chapter it was highly unlikely. So until someone could get to the chamber the music minister said, "Ok, let me find something in the key of D."

  • @KE5RHD we've got a constant cipher on one of our keys at the moment.

the solution (according to the Organ mender) is to stuff loads of hymn books against the offending pipes ntil he can fix it! so far, we've got 2 x AMR, 2 BCPs and a NEH in there! :D

  • Who thinks this is the best instrument?

  • KEWL!!!

  • Happy 100th Birthday

  • Two minutes of my precious broadband download allowance for a black screen and nothing else. Bastards.

  • thmbs up if you saw the showtime ad before this video

  • no comment, in cathedral yes, shopping mall ????????

  • @bxx1

It's not in a mall.... It's in a grand old downtown department store... Formally John Wanamaker's... which by the way, just happens to look like a cathedral of sorts...

  • advert in front of a shitty capture of a master! more about the news, and what was the point? How about what made this so spectacular? The musican coupled to the pipe organ! DuuuuH! typical reporter. A note to the reporter; capture the moment, and bring it home! Also, loose the add

  • loose the add, pleeeeeease

  • @masshred The individual videos don't have control over what ads play. They just happen. And they are updated according to who is paying to have their ad run at the time.

  • I didn't know the biggest organ was in Philly. I have a friend in Philly and he has a pipe organ in his home......it takes 4 floors for all the pipes.....but I thought the biggest one was at Crystal Cathedal....in Garden Grove, CA......I've been there several times....that is one hell of an organ.

  • @phxphillip The Philly pipe organ has 28,765 pipes, the Garden Grove pipe organ has 15,948, actually making it the 5th largest organ.

  • never saw the video. too much ad. No, I do not want to be an undercover officer. What is this, China?

  • It took so long for the ad to load that I lost interest. Hope the hucksters are happy.

  • That is so cool! I had no idea they had that fabulous pipe organ built into the store! And I though it was nice when they had a piano at our Nordstrom's. Organs/Organists are a dying breed. They just aren't putting them in new churches anymore because they are so expenseive and so few know how to play them propertly.

  • @Madelena2001 Plus, all of today's organs are all electronic

  • This is a magnificent instrument and a national treasure. It would be impossible to build an organ on this scale today with exactly this sound. Here's hoping it stays put for a very long time.

  • I'd feel so much power playing one of those! :D

  • I WANT TO HEAR LITTLE FUGUE IN G MINOR ON THAT!

  • When I see an ad for a product, it makes me not want to buy that product.

  • I hate the ads, but love the organ!

  • Grellishfamily.....I have seen and heard the organ at West Point. It is an awesome instrument in an absolutely beautiful chapel, but I DON'T believe they advertise it as the largest in the world. Seems to me it has a bit over 20,000 pipes.

  • wheres the giant trumpet pipes

  • What an amazing instrument.

  • 0:01

  • Fuck the ads.

  • I guess 100 years ago before amplified music, radios and record players were in every home, this would be very impressive and indeed attracted people from miles around to see it.

Now it would just give me a fucking headache. With all the pipes strewn about the store I bet acoustically it's a real nightmare. I feel sorry for the poor fools that have to work there and listen to it all day. There was no OSHA in 1910, bet the db level in some areas is criminally dangerous. MACY'S = The Dodo Bird.

  • @batvette It saddens me that you've formed your perspective based solely on this video excerpt and probably have had no opportunity to experience the magnificence of the organ. Back when the store was with its original owner, John Wananmakers, I remember going into Philadelphia from a suburb an hour away just to "meet under the eagle" and hear that massive organ.

  • @batvette The acoustics of that building prevent your headache unless you truly can't abide beautiful music played by a master musician. The db level is no worse than hearing a symphony in a concert hall. You are right about one thing: Macy's may, indeed, be likened to the Dodo. It's as in danger of extinction without Macy's ownership as the bird was without the intervention of wildlife preservationists. Try looking up "Opera Company of Phila Random Acts of Culture" on YouTube & watch the faces

  • @LaurieBick since sound energy does attenuate over distance I think you missed the point about people working there and the distributiion of pipes in the building- surely if you were assigned a post to work at nearby certain pipes in the register they are much louder there than elsewhere in the building. As for the Dodo, I meant Macy's the Department Store, in the face of online competition and the economy in general. The Macy's at the mall in our city is like a graveyard even now before Xmas.

  • @batvette Have you walked near an Abercombie & Fitch? American Eagle? Any of them trendy mall stores that have pretty people paid to stand out front and wave people in, with the music playing so loud, you can hear it from the food court 20 stores away? yeah. Thats somehow better than an organ concerto playing in the background of a Macy's... Also, compared to whatever's being vomited by MUZAK, I'd take organ concertos on a daily basis... How many versions of Jingle bells you heard just today?

  • @batvette omg r u nuts, i would love to hear this all day rather than the stupid sound of soft rock and teen pop crap they play in every store, and besides they dont play it all day, its only during the christmas season

  • The largest pipe organ in the world is in Atlantic City with over 30, 000 pipes.

  • hey try playing bowser in the sky theme that oughtta be good for a chuckle :D

  • The video plays immediately after you sign in. It will not play unless you sign in.

Also, I heard that the largest pipe organ in the USA is actually at West Point. As I look at the console, I think we have to decide are we talking about the largest console or the organ with the most pipes?

  • the video doesn't seem to play anymore.

  • To avoid irritating ad's just look for and avoid "by CBS" and others like it.

  • fudge the fudging ads!!!

  • no ooooh the largest pipe organ is the atlantic city pipe organ sorry but the one at macy's is second largest

  • What I would do for that job.

  • @ClumsyTroll Would you go back to music school, practice on whatever organs you can beg to use whenever they're available, study night and day? That's what it takes to be an organist, even at a small church.

  • @Baritone45 k?

  • @Baritone45 Maybe for YOU. Not for everyone. Sorry to hear you need sheet music. Bet you can't even write a song.

  • That's not the biggest?

  • OH MY GOD, my ad block showed a ad video!!!

  • He has the best job. EVER.

  • stupid ads freezing up

  • @DoninWhiting When he doesn't like classical music, perhaps Obama has to be baited with the argument that the AC organ is also a technical marvel of electric engineer work and this way similarly important like NASA space travel museums and such things.
