  • This video explains so much.. How much of that did you drink? The walls of the Yurt aren't strong enough for you to bounce around like this. Energizer Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You know, i've always liked watching your videos & shows more than any of the other "survival shows". but now that i know youre a Monster/caffeine fanatic too, youre my favorite HANDS DOWN! (i guess it gives you a "hey, hes like me" feel lol) I've been waiting a long time for Monsters in a powdered form as well. but i'd be willing to bet you could use your name to get them to bring out a new line of Monster energy drink mixes!!

  • I was thinking that if there is room which it looks like there is, you could put fire starting material in there like cotton balls ect.

  • @XSUREproductionsX seeing how you can use the glasses to start the fire.

  • Get your back up perscription glasses for $10 (that price includes shipping). not a scam, reviews are great...ive been told these are very sturdy and the lens are crystal clear. Give a thumbs up so people can see it.

    zennioptical dot.com

  • bleh i have a friend who just slams monsters. you monster addicts are crazy, i just can't stand that chemical taste.

  • Whats the yurt

  • B.C.G.'s all day bro :)

  • I like bacon

  • what watch do you use in this video?

  • survival=improvisation and dave is one of the best from murrays beeswax to these thanks man.

  • The mini glasses actually look good on you.

  • Those flat glasses looked like a good idea. Be nice if they would paint them black.

  • Shouldn't the "back-up" for whatever you are carrying be of the highest quality you can carry rather than the lesser? Just thinking, under the 1=none & 2=1 theory that if you are down to your back-up you really need whatever it is and if that "back-up" fails you may be in a world of hurt.

  • You could probably even use the bamboo tongs with the o-ring as a suture clamp to hold a large wound closed.

  • So, I see you have found a substitute for hot chocolate?

  • Thanks for discussing glasses Dave! I have 3 quick suggestions for anyone who has glasses.

    1. If you are a veteran like I am, you can use your chem-glasses. They are thin with a rubber frame, very durable, and of course they look goofy! :)

    2. Put an extra set of cleaner/cloth in your b.o.b.

    3. Carry a tool for tightening your glasses. I keep a small one in the foregrip of my Ruger 10/22 with some other tools and my leatherman wave has one as well.

This is a good reminder to think about things

  • Jraybu09

    - Dave has talked about teeth before, check out his Personal Hygiene/Sanitation video.

You can brush teeth with ashes.

I keep a dental med kit in my FAK. But I never keep it in my car if it's a hot day, wouldn't want the wax fillers to melt.

  • i like to take a monster with the twist of lid on backpacking trips use the can as a secondary water bottle and cook pot.

  • Dave can you talk about Dental Hygeine? You talked about keeping the body clean, what about the mouth?

  • Made me laugh, Dave, with the, "if you're a weeny" line @ 1:51. Priceless!

  • I get the feeling that the 7 dislikes must use the toast tongs to get thier toast out of the toaster . I really like the yurt videos and look forward to more !

  • a fresnal lens should suffice for a backup reading implement. and i do believe you have one in your fire kit.

  • Another use for the chopsticks:

Clamp a fish hook in the end, hold the other end between your knees and use it as a fly tying vise. Thanks for all the knowlege i have gained from your videos. My new motto for 2012 is be prepared not scared.

  • Hi Dave , how did the alpaca blanket work is it similar to sheep? If it is lighter can it be a substitute for the military blankets on the wall of the Yurt?

  • @blacktippydog I agree

  • Have you tried mixing the mocha drink with hot chocolate? I bet that would be awesome.

  • monster java man, its awesome

  • i didnt know you were an energy drink junkie. that explains why you often seem so errr gun ho

  • stay away from all that chemical crap, and just eat health, when you get sleepy take a nap

  • someone needs to show dave that lawsit where pepsi disputed a lawsuit claiming a guy found a dead mouse in a can of mountain dew by saying the mouse would have been dissolved by the soda.

  • You need to buy a case of 5 Hour energy extras.....Monsters suck compared to those. At least in my opinion....

  • I have to wake up really early for work. I take a B-vitamin with a coke, and I'm wired.

  • Water and Ale. The only two beverages a human needs...

  • so now we know why Dave talks so fast

  • Ditto on the Monsters Dave...I'm an addict

  • I use emergen-c almost everyday in the winter time. Big dose of vitamin c, tons of other vitamins, plus a good shot of b6 and b12 for a energy boost.

  • I can see a new product there... not sure how to name it... Speezers or Twoon .. combine those tweezers with spoon, just like a spork = spoon + fork

  • Dave you're the undisputed master of the woods. I started looking at vitamins & minerals back in the 80's, took almost every kind the health-food store had. I always had a sore throat and some kind of allergy symptoms. Greater than 95% of what goes in one end comes out the other unused. They must be "Peptide Bonded" before your cells can use them. They must be food based I suggest you research "Megafood" on the internet. They work better at what they do then your 12 gauge does at what it does..

  • Dave, you gotta put a piece of white tape around those flat glasses! Ya just gotta, man!

  • energyfeind D*T COM is a good guide to caffeinated beverages. I'm sitting here watching this high on caffeine from drinking a lot of coffee.

  • Love your serie Dave!!! Thanks

    Groetjes

  • great how thin those coffeccino packs are, looks like you could carry loads of them

  • Dave, if you like monster try this stuff at wal-mart called ( REDLINE ) its comes in small bottles and powder packets, a good clean buzz with no jitters, and its a major kick in the ass! stuff goes a long way.

  • "They're made for, I guess picking up toast out of your toaster if you're a weanie and can't reach in there and grab it. . . " LOLOLOL. Love it. Company should pay you royalties Dave, as they're really going to sell now in the multi-purpose world of the Pathfinder System.

  • i like the drink mix ideas dave! You might have already saw it but can you do a video on your edc carabiner and edc?

  • Clif has a small "Double Espresso" gel pack that is caffeinated. Not sure what the dosage is. The pouch is small (maybe 2" x 2") and easily packable.

  • I dont know if you posted the maufactrer of the shotgun inserts but I would love on for my

20 ga. to shoot .22 mini. Can you post the manufacturer? Dave If you are going to sell on your PFS site I will wait until available. Thanks Bro for all the goodies.

  • You need a monical lens on a dummy cord

  • Dave you do a great job covering a lot of topics but do you plan to cover the subject of physical fitness? It will effect everything in the wilderness especially a survival situation.

  • Guy I worked with had our whole station hooked on the Grape Spark mix.

  • Does that company make adapters for the 20 ga to shoot other calibers? Or do they strictly make adapters for the 12 ga? Hope I'm making sense..Example-I have a 20 ga, can I get adapters to shoot .22? Thx.

  • @cleve0h They make adapters for 12/20/410 as well

  • @cleve0h I just bought some of these and shot some videos on it. Definitely functional.

  • Dave, You may to check out the reading glasses at i4ulenses(dot)com. They are extremely lightweight, yet durable. I've used the same pair for almost two years while backpacking, hunting, and fishing, and they work great. They weigh about 1/4 oz.

Thanks for all of your videos. Awesome, as always.

  • Hmmmm caffeine supplements..... This explains a lot Lol. Keep up the great work Dave.

  • Do you have a blowgun

  • Comment removed

  • Chopsticks are great tool to learn to use, I eat with all the time and there are easy to make in the bush. Those tongs are great because if your hands are cold, chopsticks are difficult to manipulate. I lost a pair of glasses to the New River once, now I always have a spare set of glasses in my pack.

  • Eyesight is so very important. Those collapsable glasses are a great idea. One thing I've found out with my clam-shell case: The spring wears out after a while so it may fall open. But you have it as a back-up pair so you should have no problem.

I'd have never guessed you're an energy junkie. hahahahahahahaha!

    Richard

  • Great idea about the drinks, I really like the compact option. I didn't catch the company name though, can you post that? Also, do they make sugar free for those of us with diabetes? Thanks for all your info, valuable stuff!

  • @backtobasics44 Advacare is the company, theres a link on the front page of the pathfinder school website

  • Dave you may want to look into Zenni Optical for inexpensive prescription glasses.

  • WHO DAT!!! Great video Dave.

  • Great info as always Dave! That coffee/mocha/energy drink looks really interesting. I've drank so much Red Bull over the years I've actually grown wings ;-)

  • Monster Coffee drinks toffee

  • Try the toffee one. It is very addictive.

  • I had a customer give me a few packets of those drink mixes, but haven't used them yet. Was keeping in my bag in case I needed something more to add to my water to boost my energy, hydration or concentration levels maybe in a stressful situation.

Craziest thing for me watching these videos is our way of thinking Dave. Sooner or later we cross paths. I have done the same thing months earlier, or even in the same week, and then you made a vid about it. WiErd!

  • Those Monster energy drinks are $1.75 in the checkout case at my local Walmart.... Each can contains 160mg of caffeine... At the same Walmart i can purchase 100 count Equate "Stay Awake" pills that contain 200mg each of caffeine for under 5 dollars... i usually break them in half and take 100mg at a time....Two 16 oz Monsters a day will cost over a Hundred dollars a month...IMO that is a not insignificant amount of money...and the pills take up a lot less weight and bulk then overpriced soda..

  • @rainmechanic I agree about the Money but not the comparison brother, look at a can of Monster Java and there are tons of Vitamins in there you are not gonna get from those little caffiene pills. I agree about space but packets dont take up much room either.

  • this is the 1st time I ever seen you without a cover.

  • nice vid dave! :D

  • I think chance uses something like that for his toast

    LOL

  • Don't forget snare trigger.

  • @wildernessoutfitters

    Dave,

How can I send you a link to awesome, cheap, drybox I picked up from Bass Pro the other day? Private message on youtube or gmail? It's perfect for a fire kit.

    Mahalo

  • I Believe in if it looks stupid and it works is it really stupid.?..NO, I think not, are the deer going to point and laugh. IS the minute detail that you get correct gonna say anything?

All -in-All, you have a good idea and it works for multiple things. That follows right along with your Common man, everday , multi-use doctrine. I say its all good. Keep those Videos coming.

  • Did you do video on how you built the Yurt??

  • Why do you choose 12 gauge over 20 gauge?

  • @cheeselyman More common and I can use adapters to shoot 20 and 410 in a 12 if needed.

  • @wildernessoutfitters I couldnt help but notice your bow behind you in this video, may i suggest you talking about that in a video.

  • Toaster accessories for weenies! Oh my garsh! That was funny.

  • Monster rehab is my favorite

  • Monster drink company has a promo going on now, You can get the drink mix , add water. It comes with the balance bracelet thing? BUt I carry my spare glasses in the case, Which is larger container. The extra room in top has ferro rod , charred cloth, reg cloth to clean. 5 cotton balls soaked, and 4x0 steel wool, On the inside top cover is a piece of Duct tape to hold and seperate. outside is sealed with 2 bike tube pieces.

  • Talking about glasses. I noticed that when walking around in the light snow you did not have sunglasses on. I use polarized sunglasses to cut the suns glare reflecting off the snow. More important I guess when out on open snow or water.

  • dave love the vids... but correct the name on your previous video so it shows up when you type it in.

  • Dave try xoxide dt com they have caffiene soap , lip gloss , everything mixes etc

  • @pup9et sorry xoxide that is i sent it in pm , also make sure at the top you click all caffeine .

  • Hay weres part 2

  • Its hell when we start to get older

  • Could the lens be used as a magnafing glass to start fire or are they two weeks.

  • haha weenie nice ! lol

  • I'm the same way I drink about 2 monsters a day... Is that a bad thing?

  • The link in the description needs an extra l in the "llc" portion.

  • POP-TARTS a 1000 calories for a buck.

  • Don't be a weenie! Use your fingers to flip the Bacon! Just kidding great vid's though I have been picking up a lot of useful information from these.

  • i feed my old horse glucoseimine.

  • Fat wood splinter puller. Lol

  • I friggin love these videos. I've been subscribed for a long time, but this is by far the most fun I've had watching you're channel, man.

  • Dave, you are an ultimate badass! Thanks for doing what you do. I was just wondering if you and Cody Lundin keep in touch when you aren't doing the show. Also, are you guys going to do anymore Dual Survival shows? Thanks again. Stay warm out there!

  • dave, if you like energy drinks so much, how come you drink hot chocolate instead of coffe all the time?

  • I think a live streaming video feed in the corner of the Yurt is in Dave's future. Anyone agree?

  • to dave and friends: My question is, in the wilderness, cold weather or hot, in a small day pack, what canned or bagged food is best for rationing. If your child was going to be trapped in the wilderness for an unknown period of time what single food is best to stuff in his bag before he leaves?? Also, where can I buy it:) We have tried everything from sardeens to spam but wanted to know if theres something in the self-reliance culture that we may not know about.

    thanks everyone.

  • dave got a ?.since i dont have the money for a good ax. was looking at a swiss military surplus ax on sportsman guide.

    .whats ur thoughts on it?

  • Dave if you like the loco moco, you should try the Irish blend. It comes in the green can, it has a hint of a whiskey flavor to it

  • nice video. too bad i need glasses all the time what i need is a sturdier frame like what they issue for military

  • Thanks for the video, ...and the serie, as usual!

  • what!!!!! Wheres the ending....

  • so you think we can get someone to make a powdered Mountain Dew????

  • Those glasses are a good idea for a person that wears prescription glasses; just have the lenses replaced with prescription lenses put in.:-)

  • Good videos,... I see you've added a "Cliffhanger" to the end to keep us coming back, lol, would be anyways, take care. ^_^

  • Poor Dave; hasn't discovered the virtues of a monocle yet...

  • Gotta say, I'm a mean bean fan. Drink it so much at work, I got a couple cans from my secret Santa lol.

  • In one of the other videos I saw you speak of a neck knife, Do you still carry one when you don't have the belt knife? (going to town) Also love the fact you changed you mind on the tweezers, always good to be able to adapt in gear and thinking. Could you do a video on some of the tools and techniques, and ideas that have "evolved" with your experiences in the last few years?

  • Hey Dave, love your videos, what about doing a video about boots,I think that is an important issue.

  • just out of curiosity, have you heard of this newer brand of beef jerky called Perky Jerky? apparently they marinade the meat in energy drink then the do the jerky process on it...seems like a pretty cool idea to me

  • Thumbs up to breakfast for dinner.

  • Never underestimate the Chinese.

  • dav whats ur take on the marlin 336? the mountain mans assult rifle?

  • Enjoy your videos Dave. But, I swore off Monster drinks after learning their logo means '666'.

  • @MrCairokid really give me a break the monster symbol is 3 claw marks that form an m. the hebrew symbol of vav witch stands for v/w or 6 curves up on the top and gets fatter on the bottom . it looks nothing like the monster symbol. don't believe every thing you read.

  • @ramsessilent I might be wrong, but I doubt it.

  • @MrCairokid google "images monster 666" you will see you are wrong the symbol thy say is on the monster can is highlighted in yellow and clearly is not the same thing as the monster symbol. people see what thy want not what is there. you would be better off turning the monster can upside down and saying its satans pitch fork . i might have belived that LOL .

  • for those wondering spark tastes just like fruit loops

  • Thanks for the glasses awnser. Love the tongs idea... Walmart has a generic version of "airborne" that is a tablet you drop into water with vitamans and minerals that I keep in my pack. It takes the nasty taste out of some of the boiled water you drink on the trail. Small Tang packs can do the same thing. The stuff you found seems to be the best option however (a point that sould be mentioned is if you like the taste it will keep you drinking when drinking water is a chore.

  • Love my Mountain Dew.

  • bambo skewers work good as improvised chopsticks altho kinda sharp and gota have skills to use properlly

  • this explains how you talk so fast. lol

  • Hey Dave! I was wondering if maybe you can do a video on how to make perk coffee? I would love to see how you would do that. Awesome video!

  • My wife says I'm a monster monster. I found the best packet monsters are from Starbucks. The iced coffee packets are tiny, taste great and only $7 for 6 pockets( in Canada). If you mix them with milk they are unbelievably good. I hate Starbucks but even a blind dog finds a bone once in awhile!

  • @wildernessoutfitters Good to hear your not drinking as much MD, Dave. I used to drink a ridiculous amount, until I realized high fructose corn syrup was wreaking havoc on my body and making me sick. The only carbonated beverage I drink is Monster Chaos (No HFCS), but I try to drink a lot of black coffee to get my caffeine fix, along with a Monstor Loca Mocha or Mean Bean if I want something sweeter.

  • I look forward to a day in the life of the yurt everyday! Thanks Dave! Your right those mini tongs have a lot of uses great item to carry.

  • Hay Dave, you should look into those eye exercises you can do so you don't need glasses. I think there is something to it.

  • Dave your too awesome for words!! have been implementing some of your ideas in to my kit!

  • HA! "...if you're a weenie.....". cool little piece of kit!

  • Great video.. I LOVE Monster Energy... 2 cans a day. :P

I think a good place to keep a spare pair of glasses if your first aid kit, if you have one.

Thanks for the video Dave.. keep up the great work.

  • Monster has a small bottle almost like that meo stuff where you pour it in ur water to your liking

  • Toaster tongs to eat with, not to shabby... My motto is:

"If it's stupid and it works... it ain't stupid."

  • Dave you never got back to the "curing meats" that you brought up. I was interested on how you would do that in a survival situation if you were lucky enough to find some salt.

  • its a giant roach clip haha =)

  • I love MD and Monster, Id love to try that stuff.

  • whats your favorite monster flavor?

  • @sgtdoyle28 Loca Moca

  • @wildernessoutfitters Amen, I grab one almost every morning on my way to work

  • @sgtdoyle28 I believe it's the Monster Java

  • What about instant coffee? Isn't that, more or less, the same thing?

  • @Atkrdu This tastes like chocolate bro and has alot of B Complex not just caffine.

  • Thank you Dave for your videos.

a quick question: what a good virgin/ merino wool blanket that you recommend?

  • Dave will you make a every day cary/ edc video

  • I took the Rehydrate for a while with my gym workouts, personally I would just stick with Gatorade..

  • had me laughin about the tweezer eating, but your right! May also be a good way to pace your ration consuming, if I pig out I eat more than I need compared to pacing myself.

  • LOL, Dave just said "weenie." Hilarious.

  • get off the soda! I switched to sweet tea... black tea has plenty of caffeine not to mention WAY cheaper... seriously

  • @PennywisePatriots Dont drink much MD anymore but still drink alot of Caffine

  • I'm surprised you take vitamins after all that about modern ideas of what's healthy. ;-) Must take some of the worry out of your diet out there, though. I do a lot of joint-intensive exercise (biking in particular can be hard on the knees) and even though I'm 20 I find that extra vitamin D really helps with my knees and other joints bothering me.

  • @mysss29 I figure if my diet sucks most of the time I owe it to my family to at least take some vitamins brother.

  • i like making chop sticks to eat with in the woods, easier than a spoon and you can eat anything but soup with them, the soup you can drink out of your cup anyways :D

  • The meltable Listerine pocket pack looking energy stuff work s well real small no crash

  • Hehe, I knew I saw a Monster in the last video. I'm right there with ya, can barely get through the day without at least one can...

  • @TheTradesmith I drink two cans a day.. I love it!

  • Hey Dave, nice videos i really enjoy them.

May i ask what camera you are using to record these; Do you have any advises for me as i am really addicted to sugar, soda and such, to be honest i drink 1,5 - 3L Pepsi per day and when out in the woods i can't bring that with me, making me really week and light headed, Coffee is working a bit but not for long. The thing you had in this video, will it work for me?

    Grateful for answer

    Best regards; Ted

  • @HarbardWild I use a Canon g12, The Coffeecino will do the trick bro in a packet, check our website and you can find it.

  • Great informational video.

  • Function over fashion, couldn't agree more, Dave!

  • keeping glasses is a good idea i have contacts and when they fall out im screwed.

  • Coffeeccino for the WIN!

gonna have to look into that one, damned near drink a pot of regular coffee daily.

  • Your beard is gone! Noooo! :D

  • Dave,

Have you ( or can you) ever made a video on how to tan a deer/ or other animal hide for use?

  • @flyndublin Got em brother brain tanned a Raccoon hide about 2 years ago.

  • Now I know why you talk so fast

  • I see your Bow in the corner. Have you done a Bow vid? Or can you do one? Thanks!

  • your a caffeine addict? i remember years ago you were VERY ANTI coffee. hell, the video of you stating this is on your channel ! Its been very interesting seeing you change thru the years

  • @TheKodiak72 I dont drin Coffee, this is the closest thing I can stand the tast of to coffee, I tastes more like Moca to me.
