  • Ian has two snare drums mixed in one :D its so huge :D

  • daddy mommy's?....brits -.-

  • Please tell me if anyone knows, what is the drumhead on the top? It's by REMO I can see, but the surface doesn't seem "powderish" like the coated heads usually seem to be, but very smoothly white. I'd like to know 'cause I really dig the sound of it. :)

  • @Yazkamaniac this is coated Ambassador

  • What a gent!

  • After Mr Rich, Ian Paice is the master of the snaredrum.

  • Get yo' pinkies in.

  • It's all good sound advice, but things like single stroke rolls and double stroke rolls are obvious—The name of the rudiment says it all. I'd have like it if he'd have discussed the way the hand controls the stick in more detail: That's where the really skill is. Anybody can figure RLRLRLRL or RRLLRRLL themselves.

  • i've got that snare every one should buy one :) JUST THE BEST

  • Thank you Ian!

  • Does anyone know if this is part of a longer video?

I'd love to sit down with him for just an hour over a cup of coffee and just talk drums & drumming.

  • @mgdrummer77 It's from his DVD 'Not for the Pros'.

  • I didn't really know how important rudiments are!

  • I've said this before on here and I'll say it again...this video was key to developing advanced drumming skills for me. I was stuck on single strokes until this video taught me paradiddles and drumrolls. It also taught me how to achieve incredible speeds without pounding the skins. I owe more than 80% of my skills to this video. Thanks to whoever posted it, and even more, thanks to Ian Paice for enabling me to advance to the next level.

  • @jetfreak4 Great story.

  • 12 dislikes? Really? Wow...

  • grande maestro sos el mejor

  • I love that high snare-sound =)

  • when the master talks, I listen..but I don't think there is any problem that he is left handed, and I'm not...

  • @chunter5100

    agreed.

  • @chunter5100 Left-handed is left-handed...has no advantage over being right-handed, or vice-versa. It's only a disadvantage if your ambi-dextrous....Paice has even said that had he learned to play right-handed, he would have had wild independence in his hands.

  • Watch ur technique and ur pinky

  • is it a supraphonic snare?

  • @jakobkaae nope. it's ian paice's signature steel shell snare

  • Anyone happen to notice that Ian's matched grip doesn't exactly 'match'..?

    (Just sayin'...)

  • what video is this from?

  • Thank you Ian....

  • I go to a video about drum technique and expect to see discussion on drum technique. Instead I see people putting down the drummer in the video because they think their favorite drummer is better. Ask yourself, do you think successful drummers actually give a shit how they compare to other successful drummers?

  • @jomanda32063 Which is all well and good . . . their drummer may be "better" at whatever it is that that particular drummer does, yet, I'll bet real money that if you sought out those "better" drummers and asked them what they thought of Ian Paice, they'd all immediately pull a Wayne's World and bow down and say "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

It's kinda like when countless drummers say they wish they were as good as Neil Peart, and Neil says he wishes he was as good as Buddy Rich.

  • that snare has bigger titties then my ol lady!! i want one!! :):):)

  • @Metallica4Ever93 ... seriously???

  • @Metallica4Ever93 joey jordison is good in speed and for slipknot but in the drummer world he isnt good ain paice is a god so please have some of respect do you

  • @Metallica4Ever93 troll i seen you on other vids

  • @Metallica4Ever93

Joey and Ian both have great technique. They're both great drummers. Ian isn't better than Joey, and Joey isn't better than Ian. They just have completely different styles.

  • old hippies never die, they just fade away

  • DA DA MA MA...halirious!!

  • legend just saying ;)

world class could listen and watch all day,why not : )

  • legend just saying ;)

  • damn..he`s good

  • anyone know what kind of snare that is? it sounds awesome

  • @curtwils It's his signature snare drum from Pearl.

  • Ian Is Dee Best! Very knowledgeable and gifted.

  • thanks ian your the best

  • OK, I'm a drummer at heart, 1st thing I played in a band, then went to bass because we needed one. I love watching/listening to drummers, especially left handed drummers! Just fascinated by them riding with their left hand and hitting the snare with their right. Found out that RINGO was left handed! But he played like a right hander! Now that is F*ckin' Impossible??? Like Paul playing right handed bass,or John and George playing left handed guitar!

  • @waynedanberry Maybe ambidextrious?

  • @waynedanberry it aint that different tbf, cos paicey is right handed but plays left, if you are a really good drummer then you should be equal on your hands anyways

  • @waynedanberry Not impossible at all. There is no real hand-bias when you're just starting out - although it is easier to keep time with one's dominant hand. And I think everyone should play guitar "backwards" - fretwork seems more complicated than picking, and therefore better done with the dominant hand. I'm a lefty but I play drums and bass right-handed. It's also useful when I have to share instruments.

BTW, pinkies in, Ian! :D Hehe.

  • !!! wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FAIL

  • I find it interesting how his left and right hands are far from reflections of one another, yet he sounds so amazing! I really don't care about form as long as it sounds good, but I was under the impression that the best of the best would be more uptight about it. Thanks for the post!

  • What a legend this guy

  • This guy is legend! I really believe guys like Ian Paice, Carl Palmer, are overshadowed by the drummers of today. These guys can still get it done.

  • wow

  • he is a great drummer with great chops and very respected.

  • I've got one of these snare drums for sale !

  • 10 people are musically retarded.

  • Anyone know what snare that is???!

  • @HotelOscarBravo

Pearl Ian Paice signature snare drum

  • He is the greatest,he is amazing he is live legend,Ian Paice is the best

  • 10 people like justim bieber

  • pinkies! pinkies!

  • @krevice Yes...they are the last fingers on each hand..

  • well, all great players, but you might want to google some buddy rich solos. i wouldn't leave out moon either.

  • that was so cool of him to do that. i don't know whether to go practice, or just give up!

  • This guy should find a band. He's quite good.

  • @hibeeOz lol, he's the drummer of Deep Purple, one of the most famous bands in the world. And yes, Ian Paice is believed to be the best rudimental drummer in the world.

  • @TheDudeWithTheDrums sorry Dude,I know very very well who Paicey is and followed him with a passion since early 70s.Guess my humour is lost on some. Thanks for the reply anyhoo and keep rocking to Ians left handed rhythms.

  • @TheDudeWithTheDrums Yes, if you've just arrived on this planet and know nothing at all about rudimental drumming, then Mr. Paice would be considered a great rudimental player. My god, the ignorance on here is just mind boggling. He's in a popular band, it doesn't mean he's a great drummer. Not by a long shot. If you have no reference or something to compare it to, then yes, he's the best drummer in the world. Ignorance is bliss.

  • @drummmhead He is a great drummer, and he was in a popular band. The best of both worlds, ain't it?

  • der beeeeste !!!!!!! :D

  • Thanks Ian

  • Speed King !

  • Doing rudiments like this is absolutely inhuman.

  • one of the fastest singles in the world, ladies and gentleman, IAN Paice

  • 2nd rudimente is like an elicopter

  • His open rolls aren't that good really... A good roll with double strokes should sound even. Every hit should be as hard as the previous ones. With his technique, they don't really. Well, almost. But it's not perfect. He's fast though.

  • @T3ddisen still learning to play drums.......where's your video?

  • @T3ddisen i don't think the day you'll teach ian paice how to play the drums will come my friend.

  • @T3ddisen hmmm it all sounds pretty even to me

  • waooo!!!

    This is "The Man"

I dont speak english, but this is great

    wau eres estupendo Ian!!!!

  • watch them pinkys!

  • @randylikesdrums yeah, but listen to the sound. =)

  • hell yeaaaaaah

  • Snare is fucking orgasmic.

  • i love you man

  • THAT IS THE BEST SOUNDING SNARE EVER

  • Damn he makes it look so easy....

  • daddy-mommys. lmao I've heard doubles and open... now I got a new term to use.

  • The paradiddle doesn't even sound like a paradiddle--the hell Ian?! WHY YOU SO FAST?!

  • something about british guys. that make u think they are angry at u . lol

  • hey GREAT Technique and I know the time it takes to get that ability thats why I made my 2 PART VIDEO 4 DRM R'S called

    "MARK WHITE Steve White DRUMBEATSTROKE"

STROKE is the NO.1 INCAPACITATOR in the west and thats how I was PARALYSED and I still play with just !H&!Fonly PLS spread the link to my video with ALL DRM R'S[& ask them to share it aswell]

pls dont worry Iearn NO money from this video

I am just try to be a decent human THANKYOU VERY MUCH

    ..mark white..

  • paice is the fucking boss

  • i love that snare

  • Ian Paice is the KING!!!

  • worth signing in to say "I love this!"

thanks Ian and loredrum7; my girls are going to watch this!

    (and learn the paradiddle)

  • I wish I could do a paradiddle that fast :(

  • that's the american grip,right ? btw great post

  • Gosh I would give to him all my hair to play like him :D

  • This one video made all the difference in taking me up to the next level in drumming. I encourage anyone who wants to learn how to play drums to learn from four guys...John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, and Buddy Rich. Everything I know stems from watching these guys play, and especially Ian Paice. I can now play just about everything at the level he shows in this video. Granted, this likely isn't even half of what he knows.

  • Great stuff - thank you for posting :-)

  • DA-DA MA-MA!

  • Ian Paice is the best and as for Joey Jordinson, I think Danny Carey is better than him.

  • amazing snare sound!

  • he's definitly got his own sound

  • He's left-handed and i'm too!!!:D

  • @geduza16 He has a nose and me too! :D

  • @PhantomSocke me too! :D but urn't left-handed :P:P lool:D

  • @PhantomSocke What do you mean he has a nose and me to. I don't understand?.

  • @geduza16 me too man

  • @geduza16

well...maybe you should go right out and buy a set of drums ; ) lol

  • Tbh "metal" druming doesnt tickle my fancy at all i think its a kinda crap and just relies on speed and Double bass which is lame not to say im totally against double bass just Listen to Fire ball sounds Great in that. And Ginger Bakers a great double bass player but yeah i prefer the more techinal side of drumming :)

  • Da da ma ma... :-) great!

  • Simply perfect.

It's my favourite drummer with John Bonham, but I prefer Ian's hands tecnique (as Bonham's foot tecnique). I've been to a couple of Ian Paice clinic and I can say he's also a great person, very down to heart and friendly

  • fucking great sound

  • i wish i was you

  • Strewth.

  • amazing, best drummer in the world.

    better than joey jordison

  • @keyblade09 obviusly, but you cannot seny the genious of real metal drummers like George Kollias.

  • @keyblade09 Joey Jordison isn't even remotely close to Ian Paice on the level of skill. As far as I can tell, all Jordison has is speed and noise...no technical rudiments. Take away one of his bass drums and he's nothing.

  • @jetfreak4 yeah, i didnt say that joey is better than ian, in my opinion i think that ian is the genious of drumming

  • Best

  • Totally unfamiliar with Ian... but he comes across in this vid as a very cool guy. And I have nothing but respect for a musician of his stature who'll take the time to TEACH. That is the greatest gift.

  • i love this guy!

  • No one here can tell Paice to hold the sticks right. You should rather hold them like him.

  • Ian Paice on the drums... OH YES !

  • Great Ian

  • God I love Ian Paice..... one of THE greatest drummers to have ever graced the planet.. and a huge inspiration and influence to me and my own playing :-)

    ROCK ON, IAN!!!!!!

  • I dig this guy, one of my greatest heroes. Have never heard him speaking about drumming so far, but now I know I chose the right hero some 15 years ago. He is god given talented, yet describes so discrete as he were sitting in my room and it would be the world's most important issue to teach me how to play as hundredth as good as him.

  • He should learn how to hold the sticks right first!

  • @BllrGir14

have you seen this guy play drums? im pretty sure he knows how to hold his sticks quite well...and just because you hold your sticks differently doesnt mean thats how everyone should hold them...you hold them how you feel comfortable holding them

  • @BllrGir14 three weeks ago and i'm still upset with you for your comment. It's friggin PAICE!!! DEEP PURPLE? THE LEGEND? how many takes you think he made on those rudiments? lol. i wish you could drum off with him and then tell him how much better, how much more of a legend you are.

  • @myfairvanity I wasn't saying I was better I just said he should hold his sticks better so calm down!

  • @BllrGir14 i'm calm. i just had to let it out. remind me to stop posting cuz it doesn't matter anyway. check out his one-handed rolls solos. it's horrible cuz he doesn't hold the sticks right.

  • @BllrGir14 I don't know whether to laugh my ass off or verbally put you down until i'm blue in the face. Number one, he is a lefty. Number two, you just essentially called a defect on one of the greatest if not the greatest rock drummers....regardless if you hold the sticks the right or the wrong way (and he's holding them the right way), it is hard as fuck to play what he's playing with the kind of smoothness and natural flow he has. So either show us how skilled you are or know your place.

  • @BllrGir14 Even though he hold the sticks "wrong" he still plays better then you!!!

  • shat kid.

  • Astonishing...

    Fabri

  • I'm sorry but this is the best demonstration of paradiddles I've seen in a long time.

  • are you stupid urajokeMC ? it's Ian Pace where talking aboute. he has defanetly not posted this video himself. so why are you adressing him ass if he posted the video? and i don't think your in any position to tell him how to play drums.

  • PEOPLE....people people people all your sexy drum lovers out there. PEOPLE I MADE A DRUM VIDEO COMPILATION I TOTALLY NEED COMMENTS ON IT, check my profile the first vid is Greatest 60 Drum Songs of Rock n Roll 60-44, if u love percussion please check it out

  • That guy urajoke is a fucking joke lol.

  • Are you lefty? Your a great drummer. I can tell. The only thing i can say is YOUR LEFT looks strongr than your right. See how your righ wrist gets stressed a bit at high tempos. Waiver in a bit, but you sound even. I would love to see ya on a ket

  • Ian Paice is left handed that's why! This guy had done more in his life then you have done in your bedroom, He has been the constant drummer for Deep Purple since 1968. Played on Whitesnakes best albums and so on...........

  • Cheddar is grate cheese....

  • woooooooooow good very good

  • He looks pressed as shit dirt technique but hes good

  • I have a drum skin signed by him.

  • ian paice is one of the few grate drummers left in the world

  • @shootymossy sweet spelling man

  • @shootymossy

Billy Cobham, jack De Johnette,Lenny White,Vinnie Colauita, Chad Wakkerman, Terry Bozzio ,and Micheal Narada walden are all top drummers , & alive and well . They play jazz and fusion.

  • f2theorrest ahahaha ignorant ian pace is one of the greatest drummers of the history hahah obviously you dont play drums or even you just started

    idiot

  • technique not best but great sounding snare n_n

  • @f2theorrest hahahah who are you to tall that ian paice don t have good technique

  • his pinkies stick out a bit too much..... and his right thumb looks like its on top of the stick. correct technique?

  • This man is concidered one of the greatest of all time. He has come up with a technique that is comfortable for him. Everyone is different.

  • what does he mean when he says get back on the kit 1:54

  • meaning fluid movement from one side of the kit to the other

  • he is most relaxed player ever.and it looks very natural.not like "practice room god".

  • what kind of skin is that ???

  • probably a remo. not sure though.

  • remo ambassador

  • he is fast.

  • How old is he in this?

  • not to be an asshole but he was playing double bass about 20 years after it had been invented, not before... duke ellington you guys

  • the king!!!

  • The man (Ian ) knows his history as well as the drums. The rudiments were used by drummers to communicate orders ( attack, retreat etc.) on the field of battle. The beauty of these rhythms, is that they do not need to be played really fast in order to be useful musically. You can incorporate almost right away in your playing.

  • Simply amazing. Ian Paice!!

  • Ian is the greatest drummer of all times. And whoever thinks something else is an asshole. Just listen to the bloody intros of ''pictures of home'' and 'fireball'' he plays double bass before even is created. He's without a doubt the greatest of all. And also Deep Purple is the greatest band of all times

  • so everyone who thinks Ian is not the best is an asshole? well that makes sense. he's great but dude, there are better drummers out there.

  • Look up thomas lang, hes pretty good man.

  • @Metalnumber204 Have you ever listened to some jazz players and like... other bands?

Damn I am one of those assholes, but this guy is really good though.

  • i think y'all need to relax on his technique. as a snare player, nothing pisses me off worse than pinkys off the stick, etc, but bear in mind, hes not a snare player. he's a set player, and to be honest, people can do whatever technique they want on the kit

  • Master Ian!!!

  • what kind of snare is that?

  • this is deep purple school guys !!!
