So, the Prude Patrol came down on you pretty fast, huh azurite? That sucks.
What would be more awesome, though, is if you replaced the bleeps with some random SFX like a dolphin, or whatever. But, then it would take more time, so NVM.
Maybe you can put out your commentary videos with "explicit content" on an alternative azurite18+ channel or something?
Also, from what I know about AE, it isn't an editing program. It's a visual effects studio. I don't know exactly how hard/easy it is to censor things in AE, but if I were to do it in Vegas, I know it would be a simple process, even though, it would be tedious listening to everything to find cuss words no matter how you do it.
Oh also, don't forget to censor words like "kill".
I´ve never heard of flagging for swearing. I say such words alot in my videos as well O_o I don´t really mind the bleeping, it´s so much funnier than the actual words XD But I can see where this is a hassle.
@EssThree That doesn't seem likely... I haven't had cabe TV in well over 6 years, and never watched things like sitcoms. Most of my time was spent on the Discovery Channel watching the mythbusters blow stuff up. :P
all of this could have been avoided if people didn´t decide to flag someone as soon as they hear the word "fuck" in that same persons video...bunch of dickheaded fags!!!!!!!!! can´t believe they did this to you azurite, I mean I´ve seen let´s play´s of I wanna be the guy and people curse their asses off and no one flagged them
@JacksonHagin then i'd be consciously modifying what i say and holding back, since i don't script anything and I do these commentaries in real time, so my speech patterns would seem very unnatural.
it would be like telling someone to not use words starting with a certain letter, or something like that: it's possible, but it'd make their speech patterns very unnatural.
the amount i curse is my normal speaking patterns: most people i know (including family) curses as much/more than i do lol

@Darabi In a customer service or retail job, no, I don't swear, because as I said, it's "scripted": i'm manually filtering my speech so it doesn't sound that natural. @Darabi As for swearing at strangers on the phone and people i meet in everyday life, i don't cuss AT them like call them names, but yes, i do say curse words around people I have just met (assuming they're not in a line of work that requires the utmost PC behavior), because I don't want to have someone get to know me as someone I'm not, I am generally extremely honest and upfront with everyone I meet.
This filters out people who might have only liked the "PC" you, rather than the real you.
@Darabi Finally, also take into account that I can't think of a single person that I'm friends with or even remotely associated with that doesn't cuss at least some of the time we talk, this includes all known family members (save for a few that i don't get along with too well, probably for obvious reasons) as well as all of my friends, ex-girlfriends, people i've worked with, most of my teachers in college, etc.
I've never really seen cursing as "bad", I just see it as a way to exclaim things.
@azuritereaction Oh, yeah, that's fine. I swear for emphasis too, or to increase comedic value like you do in your videos. Maybe you could try and condition yourself not to swear excessively? Just because others do it, doesn't mean you should feel the need to. I used to swear A LOT, now I just replace certain words with their more widely acceptable counterparts, such as using 'silly' instead of retarded or stupid. It seems to make things more humorous at times. :D
@Darabi well, i mean, i grew up around this: i'm not doing it because of peer pressure, I do it in the same way that say, a kid who grows up around people with a mid-western accent adopts the same accent themselves permanently.
essentially, for me to permanently, naturally remove cussing from my dialogue without having to consciously do it would be akin to learning how to talk in a different accent naturally. I won't deny i'm a pretty intense person at times, so cursing is somewhat of who i am.
I've noticed that sometimes your bleeps aren't long enough and you can still sometimes hear half of the word. I'm not telling you to, but just as a recommendation. Try to make them longer to cover the ENTIRE word. Meaning every letter of it no matter what. Like in the Boondocks or South park or something like that.
Make a new account dedicated to doing commentaries with swearing. Or just don't swear. Also, I think people just don't like you. People like AVGN don't seem to have a problem with swearing in a video.
@Delphion AVGN has much more weight to possibly reverse any flags he gets: if you know the right people, you can get that stuff reversed.
Example, JLC's mom is a lawyer: when he got banned, he was able to reverse the account ban, which is basically unheard of. Same for GuitarHeroPhenom, they "knew people" and were able to reverse their ban as well.
Cursing is something I do naturally in my speech: I can stop doing it, but only if I slow my speech down and basically "script" what I'd say.
@xXChompsterXx just like putting the disclaimer in RB videos, it won't help: putting a disclaimer before a video of porn and then trying to put that on youtube would get you nailed all the same haha
thats fucking dumb, its not ur fault little kids are watching the vid, at least they should do a parental control type thing before going on ur vids with curse words, idk, thats sucks
@riseofthewii yes, if i was like hulk hogan and a real man, clearly i could magically make these people stop flagging me through a demonstration of force by using my masculine psychic powers to find the people flagging me, and then call Mr. T and Alvin and the Chipmunks to team up with me so I can give them a stern talking to and inform them that when it comes to flagging videos, THAT'S NO GOOD
Instead of cutting out the audio and then taking time to replace it with bleeps, you could just take the video into an editor like Sony Vegas and put the bleep on a higher priority audio track so that it would just play over the curse word. This would save the time of having to painstakingly cut out the curse words, you could just cover them up instead.
fucking hell... i can't see why people would flag videos because someone said: fuck, shit, piss or banana... grow up people... it's part of our language nowadays..
@sten4sw because it's the most powerful editing program available? lol not sure what else i would edit in, the only advantage final cut has over AE is color correction and sound editing, neither of which i use that much (and I don't use a mac, either, so I can't even use final cut to begin with)
@azuritereaction You're damn right it's the most powerful editor, and it's the greatest program ever invented, but not for simple videos! I'm sure it was invaluable for your Rockband videos, although Sony Vegas could do most of that stuff, but AFX is terrible for anything simple, it's UI is too overcomplicated. Just hearing you talk about the extra step of writing down the timestamp of your cuss words made me cringe in agony.
@sten4sw I'd have to write down the timestamp even in vegas, because sometimes I say curse words extremely fast or quietly or loudly so the waveform mimics a scream instead of a curse word, etc.
I've gotten used to AE though, I find it a lot easier to find things on there than on any other editing program, and that's with projects that are 800+ layers that i've done haha
@azuritereaction (PART 2) You need an editor with a timeline. I have AFX, Premiere Pro, and Sony Vegas, and I use Vegas for anything that's just a video and my voice, because it's soooo much faster. In your example, you can hear where the swear is, and drag and drop it in, and hear the new version immediately. I know that AFX doesn't have a real-time audio preview, so it must be a nightmare. I recommend Vegas Pro 10, it's so stinking fast. Questions?
@sten4sw i did premiere because you're right, it has a linear, multi-element/layer timeline.
however, in all honesty, when I edit stuff in after effects, I can keep it all in one program.
When I do stuff in premiere/other similar programs, I'd have to do the entire video in one project and then port it over to after effects, and with stuff like say, my typography video, the number of edits I have to do to past portions of the video would make the editing time exponentially longer.
@sten4sw AFX does have a real-time audio preview, you just press the period key. I also watch the video beforehand and write down the times I curse, I just go to that time on the timeline, look at the wavelength (since I can now recognize curse words that I say by the wavelength, no joke) and then mark off the area with markers, cut it out using J and K to go from marker to marker and then replace it with a bleep.
I can hear the new version immediately in AFX also with the same method. :)
@azuritereaction Huh, well it shocked me to hear that you use it for everything. To each his own I guess.
However, I know it's important to stay in one program for an 800 layer project, (Although I'm using Premiere and AFX for my Modern Warfare short film, trailer on my channel, because those 2 programs work really well together) but why would you need AFX for, say, your Amnesia walkthrough?
@sten4sw well, i technically wouldn't: the only real reason i do for stuff like that is just familiarity with it, like the process/key shortcuts i've gotten down in AE now are almost second nature to do, whereas with something else i'd have to re-learn the finger patterns to knock all the words out etc. quickly and such.
I am taking tutorials online on lynda.com though to learn Final Cut and other such programs though, i know I need to learn final cut, avid, photoshop, and a few others.
If you are trying to not swear, just substitute different words in that can mean swearing. I seem consious enough to know when I am swearing and switch the word out to something else. Like.."F-..udge", Mother F-..raps". Just anything really. But that is only when I need to, like in the presense of someone who does not enjoy swearing.
@iDraghin then i'd be consciously modifying what i say and holding back, since i don't script anything and I do these commentaries in real time, so my speech patterns would seem very unnatural.
it would be like telling someone to not use words starting with a certain letter, or something like that: it's possible, but it'd make their speech patterns very unnatural.

There's tons of videos on YouTube with constant f-bombs. Whoever is flagging this stuff is moronic. I'm pretty sure YouTube doesn't do this for bad language anymore.
I don't know anybody who has gotten banned from swearing, I'm subscribed to many people who swear. Seriously, look at "Nightmarerh" Every 10 seconds he swears. He has NO videos that get banned, don't worry about the people under 18, people on the interwebs should realize that they should make accounts with their age over 18 anyways, sites that require you to put in age, are required to put that if they have explicit stuff over 18, they can't tell if you're under 18 or not.Use common cents people
@TwinsKid001 not banned for swearing, banned for being flagged on multiple videos.
also ignoring any part of my fanbase is a bad idea, just because they should realize they should do something like that doesn't mean they will, so it's my loss with no gain.

lol its funny when you censor it, and maybe the reason for that is cause small children might watch your videos and get a habit of cursing from youtube vids. so its explanable to get flagged for cursing. but seriously? get banned for that is just pointless.
Did you go back and change the titles of some of your old commentary videos? You've got some of your syobon videos on the side of this video and they're not just "Syobon Action (Part X)" anymore.

@azuritereaction thats very true, lots of the speaking you do is really an unconcious action. You usually dont pay attention to exactly what you are saying. However if you force a person to rethink every word they are saying you are at least doubling the time the thought process normally takes
@ManicSlay3r after seeing that minecraft video that did the enterprise from star trek: TNG on a 1:1 scale, nothing surprises me anymore as far as wasting time goes
Try asking Youtube to have access to 'Shows' so you can have a rating system such on other channels, where it says things like 'Viewer discretion is advised' for 'strong language'.
@WalkAroundDude I do have access to the rating system, but that'd basically be self-flagging myself: putting the rating on there has the same effects as flagging.
@JEllli0TT then i'd be consciously modifying what i say and holding back, since i don't script anything and I do these commentaries in real time, so my speech patterns would seem very unnatural.
it would be like telling someone to not use words starting with a certain letter, or something like that: it's possible, but it'd make their speech patterns very unnatural.
the amount i curse is my normal speaking patterns: most people i know (including family) curses as much/more than i do lol
@gosengo124 it's what i have to do on most videos since most people never read other people's comments, the info, annotations, or what i say in general lol
@Inmestu just like putting the disclaimer in RB videos, it won't help: putting a disclaimer before a video of porn and then trying to put that on youtube would get you nailed all the same haha
As far as I know, cussing has never been against YouTube's policy; and if it has been, they certainly do a shitty job of maintaining it (point here: comments don't get censored). Why people feel the need to flag random videos for no reason, I shall never know.
@Lampshrine95 then i'd be consciously modifying what i say and holding back, since i don't script anything and I do these commentaries in real time, so my speech patterns would seem very unnatural.

@xXFallenRoxasXx just like putting the disclaimer in RB videos, it won't help: putting a disclaimer before a video of porn and then trying to put that on youtube would get you nailed all the same haha
I love how people think that flagging videos with adult language is going to stop their kids from learning the words anyway, limiting peoples freedom to say how they want to say things isn't going to stop lil' timmy from learning how to say "fuck" mom and dad so take your head out the ass.
You don't have an AE alternative for editing? In Final Cut, all I have to do is drag the bleep sound into the timeline, adjust it to the length of the word using the adjustment arrow that appears when I hover over the end of the clip, then drag it over the original audio. I'm sure this could be replicated in Sony Vegas or even Premiere.
Youtube needs to get a rating system, like video games' rating system (e for everyone and shit). Leave flagging for things like porn, or animal abuse stuff.
Am I part of the few who enjoy the censorship? I'm not offended or bothered by cursing or foul language, but fuck me if it's not overused. I think censorship also makes some of the more awkward moments funny instead of uncomfortable.
@JakeDaBank the other problem is size: example, the files for the bulletstorm commentary are 70 gigs. the finished video is 1 gig just in itself, haha, and the files needed for one video are about 6 gigs.
You should have a hand button censor and like censor all the cuss words you are about to say. Also that would be funny walking around with that and you bleep every bad word someone says.
@IareMikeJones i don't script anything i say in commentary though, and i generally say stuff when i get into it too fast to actually bleep it (plus it'd made it unnatural), but i get what you mean haha

2 Youtubers used to flag Azurite's videos :P
Joaker4 1 year ago
@riseofthewii yes, if i was like hulk hogan and a real man, clearly i could magically make these people stop flagging me through a demonstration of force by using my masculine psychic powers to find the people flagging me, and then call Mr. T and Alvin and the Chipmunks to team up with me so I can give them a stern talking to and inform them that when it comes to flagging videos, THAT'S NO GOOD

You only get flags because people flag you right?

I thought it was because everyone thought it was hilarious xD
PandaBearLuv3r 1 year ago
Instead of cutting out the audio and then taking time to replace it with bleeps, you could just take the video into an editor like Sony Vegas and put the bleep on a higher priority audio track so that it would just play over the curse word. This would save the time of having to painstakingly cut out the curse words, you could just cover them up instead.
BigRedNY 1 year ago
@BigRedNY true, but i'm just more comfortable with after effects lol
azuritereaction 1 year ago
Yeah so why do you bleep the videos? Use a bloop instead, much more effective.

I find the censors funnier than not censoring them. Although, it must suck to go and censor every curse word.

when you do bleep the videos it makes it at least 5 times funnier... just so you know.

@Xtreme2252 i don't have strikes, getting flagged for adult content doesn't give you strikes, it's just that if you get too many it's auto-ban.

What the hell? Why in Heck's Becks are you editing in After Effects?
sten4sw 1 year ago
@sten4sw because it's the most powerful editing program available? lol not sure what else i would edit in, the only advantage final cut has over AE is color correction and sound editing, neither of which i use that much (and I don't use a mac, either, so I can't even use final cut to begin with)
azuritereaction 1 year ago
@azuritereaction You're damn right it's the most powerful editor, and it's the greatest program ever invented, but not for simple videos! I'm sure it was invaluable for your Rockband videos, although Sony Vegas could do most of that stuff, but AFX is terrible for anything simple, it's UI is too overcomplicated. Just hearing you talk about the extra step of writing down the timestamp of your cuss words made me cringe in agony.
sten4sw 1 year ago
@sten4sw I'd have to write down the timestamp even in vegas, because sometimes I say curse words extremely fast or quietly or loudly so the waveform mimics a scream instead of a curse word, etc.
I've gotten used to AE though, I find it a lot easier to find things on there than on any other editing program, and that's with projects that are 800+ layers that i've done haha
azuritereaction 1 year ago
@azuritereaction (PART 2) You need an editor with a timeline. I have AFX, Premiere Pro, and Sony Vegas, and I use Vegas for anything that's just a video and my voice, because it's soooo much faster. In your example, you can hear where the swear is, and drag and drop it in, and hear the new version immediately. I know that AFX doesn't have a real-time audio preview, so it must be a nightmare. I recommend Vegas Pro 10, it's so stinking fast. Questions?
sten4sw 1 year ago
@sten4sw i did premiere because you're right, it has a linear, multi-element/layer timeline.
however, in all honesty, when I edit stuff in after effects, I can keep it all in one program.
When I do stuff in premiere/other similar programs, I'd have to do the entire video in one project and then port it over to after effects, and with stuff like say, my typography video, the number of edits I have to do to past portions of the video would make the editing time exponentially longer.
azuritereaction 1 year ago
@sten4sw AFX does have a real-time audio preview, you just press the period key. I also watch the video beforehand and write down the times I curse, I just go to that time on the timeline, look at the wavelength (since I can now recognize curse words that I say by the wavelength, no joke) and then mark off the area with markers, cut it out using J and K to go from marker to marker and then replace it with a bleep.
I can hear the new version immediately in AFX also with the same method. :)
azuritereaction 1 year ago
@azuritereaction Huh, well it shocked me to hear that you use it for everything. To each his own I guess.
However, I know it's important to stay in one program for an 800 layer project, (Although I'm using Premiere and AFX for my Modern Warfare short film, trailer on my channel, because those 2 programs work really well together) but why would you need AFX for, say, your Amnesia walkthrough?
sten4sw 1 year ago
@sten4sw well, i technically wouldn't: the only real reason i do for stuff like that is just familiarity with it, like the process/key shortcuts i've gotten down in AE now are almost second nature to do, whereas with something else i'd have to re-learn the finger patterns to knock all the words out etc. quickly and such.
I am taking tutorials online on lynda.com though to learn Final Cut and other such programs though, i know I need to learn final cut, avid, photoshop, and a few others.
azuritereaction 1 year ago
honestly i think the bleeping adds a little more comedy

azuritereaction 1 year ago
If you are trying to not swear, just substitute different words in that can mean swearing. I seem consious enough to know when I am swearing and switch the word out to something else. Like.."F-..udge", Mother F-..raps". Just anything really. But that is only when I need to, like in the presense of someone who does not enjoy swearing.
Just my two cents. Don't hate me.
iDraghin 1 year ago
@iDraghin then i'd be consciously modifying what i say and holding back, since i don't script anything and I do these commentaries in real time, so my speech patterns would seem very unnatural.
it would be like telling someone to not use words starting with a certain letter, or something like that: it's possible, but it'd make their speech patterns very unnatural.

I don't know anybody who has gotten banned from swearing, I'm subscribed to many people who swear. Seriously, look at "Nightmarerh" Every 10 seconds he swears. He has NO videos that get banned, don't worry about the people under 18, people on the interwebs should realize that they should make accounts with their age over 18 anyways, sites that require you to put in age, are required to put that if they have explicit stuff over 18, they can't tell if you're under 18 or not.Use common cents people

lol its funny when you censor it, and maybe the reason for that is cause small children might watch your videos and get a habit of cursing from youtube vids. so its explanable to get flagged for cursing. but seriously? get banned for that is just pointless.

@azuritereaction thats very true, lots of the speaking you do is really an unconcious action. You usually dont pay attention to exactly what you are saying. However if you force a person to rethink every word they are saying you are at least doubling the time the thought process normally takes

As far as I know, cussing has never been against YouTube's policy; and if it has been, they certainly do a shitty job of maintaining it (point here: comments don't get censored). Why people feel the need to flag random videos for no reason, I shall never know.

sgtsparrow100 1 year ago
You don't have an AE alternative for editing? In Final Cut, all I have to do is drag the bleep sound into the timeline, adjust it to the length of the word using the adjustment arrow that appears when I hover over the end of the clip, then drag it over the original audio. I'm sure this could be replicated in Sony Vegas or even Premiere.
