  • ive had a few guitars that have been given to me but have all been righty.i was gonna pick up a cheap acoustic to pick around with. my son asked santa for electric. your very clear in your instructions. great videos! gonna have to subscribe, and check out the e-book.

  • Can't nail F chord, can't transfer from chord fast enough. Give up.

  • @liawkaiping Dont give up, in the past as soon as i saw a song had an F i would stop trying to learn it. But one day i thought i'll give it a go, and i kept playing the song over and over until i nailed how to get a perfect F. Its all about practice, you will never learn an F if you give up.

  • @jagclarke yeah I tried, better at it now :D

  • When you said 80's I all most shit my self.

  • @TheNerdachi I'm so glad that I corrected myself so that you would not soil yourself. Your welcome!

  • 'classic song from the 80's'

    dont think so buddy

  • The guy looks like Dane Cook

  • I love this video !!!! this showed me how to play this song correctly and made it so much simpler! Thank you soooo much I'M SUBSCRIBED!

  • I'm 14 and even I know it's the 60's

  • Guys, wherever this song originated from, whoever wrote it, it's still a legendary song that makes you wanna do something so heroic that it deserves the foley of this songs intro music. Just writing this comment makes me feel legendary.

  • @mrspunkaay You ARE a legend!

  • There's various theories on where it originated. One says late 19th century one says 16th century England. It is either about a prostitute in a brothel in New Orleans called, obviously, the Rising Sun, or a warning against gambling and drinking told by a prisoner in a prison know as the Rising Sun. It may also have been about a slave. It wasn't about a coal miner but was once recorded by a miners daughter. None of these hold a lot of weight. The Animals released it in 64 and again in 72 and 82.

  • Not the 80s bro

  • kids?

  • its a clasic song from the 60s not the 80s

  • @MrLuless it is 60s and then made famous by Animals in 80s as far as i know

  • i just learned from estaban and he's a good teacher of this song

  • Thanks a lot, the video made a few things clear.

  • great teaching.. i like how it looks like uve just woken up and grabbed a guitar.. hairs all over the place :)

  • hey thank u alot ur really fun and easy to learn from..:D

  • Its not by the animals.... that sing was written origioanlly by a cole miner in the 1870's.it was a poem by a black slave whos was a coleminer.

  • It was released in 1964

  • It's from the 60s...Ꭰ

  • Hi! I have question... How You bit strings in part: 0:25 - 1:00 ? I would like to learn this because it's better for singing :) Regards!

  • Thanks for the help on this song, I just recently learned how to play it on piano. My dad plays this song all the time, but he told me I needed to learn it on my own. Haha. Anyways, thanks alot for the help! :) (Your guitar is beautiful. :P)

  • No one knows who wrote this song! It was first recorded in 1928. Rumor is one recording prior to that. No one knows whether it refers to a house of prostitution or a women's prison. And there are many more verses!

  • Thanks for this I needed help with the strumming pattern, Im a beginner. Trying to cure my mid life crisis by pretending to be a rock star, last year it was fast motorcylcles, this is safer.

Can you tell me will your ebook provide strum patterns and beats between cords? and can I buy it from the UK?

    Thanks again

  • @halflifeevan HAHAH!! Yes, callouses is all that you should fear here.

Yes, I do teach the strumming with beats in between the chords and yes, you can get in from the UK.

Check out my vid on strumming as well. It's in my theory playlist on my main page.

    :)

    e

  • @halflifeevan you can do a little F too if your struggling with the Big F bar cord or the old school F. It sounds the same because the song is playing in C.

  • 80's.......... lol

  • can u please break down the strum pattern into down and up starting from 6:18

  • who did he FORCE to buy anything? some times we say things when we speak out of emotion and we regret it later when we cool down. you should think about what you said, stop cursing, and apologize to the man. his free videos are a gift to us learned from a lifetime of hard work. i bet this guy would GIVE you the book if you truly did not have ten dollars. but, hey, you won't know unless you ask.

  • @yourguitarsage i'd love an extra job if your just offering like that!!! lol

  • do you know any other animals covers

  • @szpeyton HA! now what you gonna say to that!!

  • srry dude but it wuz made in fourty five

  • is this standard tuning???

  • so same chords like in electric version but chords are not being picked and with slight rythm change?

  • @yourguitarsage sage is NO communist LOL

  • This whas my first song to i learned :D

  • @szpeyton No-one is forcing you dude! You want to learn this better, then practice. You just got 10 minutes free lesson with the option to buy something that will help you even more - If you choose.

I am so glad I can get some awesome tips from sage like this for free, and when I have some available cash, I will exercise the choice that I have, and buy the manual.

If that makes you sick, you have a lot to learn about the real world.

  • you are soooo pro!! wish i could play guitar like you! :) I love ur maniac version! i can listen to it all day! Wish you all luck man! Big fan here! :D

  • you're amazing.......very positive and encouraging minus thHype and bullshit....love you....mmmuuuuuaaaaahhhh............

  • Hi yourguitarsage

Everytime im done playing this song my fingers are hurting as heck, whats the cause??

    btw dig your hairdo

    J

  • What no sweep picking

thats what i do its more accurate

i understand tho this is a begginers lesson

  • I have an issue with the pick.......it keeps getting caught on the strings, and then I end up droppping it inside. Help?

  • @CelloMusic4ever he answers your problem at 8:30 :-p

  • you dont strum you rarther pic or sweat pic.

  • that's a great video for begginers but still I am PRO

  • looking at the thumbnail, i thought his name was "your guitars age" haha. great song.

  • If you're woundering why he's looking to the left all the time, its a picture of a blonde with big jugs.

  • why didnt you comb your hair?

  • The Animals' version of this song is actually a cover of Bo Diddley.

Bo Diddley is one of the greatest blues guitarists of whom helped contribute to the finger picking style.

  • You have taught me so much! Thank you!

  • thanks for the tutorials, I've been playing for a week and have the the chords and lyrics down for, this, sympathy for the devil (rolling stones), Desolation row ( bob Dylan), hide your love away (Beatles), and times they are A-changin (bob dylan)... I'm addicted... I've finally gun'a get an acoustic for my birthday a £130 Vintage V300 its not the most expensive guitar, I know, but a good starter I think ( I've been using my brothers Electric guitar, without an amp so far)

  • do full Fmajor chord -.-

  • IF YOU LISTEN CLOSELY u can hear he is finger plucking not strumming

  • @Mindfreak734 i can still hear it even when not paying attention

  • This is a really good video :D

    Thanks for the help!

  • Hey "Guitarsage" I'm thowing down the gauntlet...SING! (Even if it's horrible).

    --Van

  • Hello--good one to learn--from when it came out 45 years ago and even up to today. Keep it up.

Btw--I never relly thought aout the "timing", you did bring up some good points.

I have a version where I took the lyric "when your on a drunk" literally--ha ha.

    --Van

  • i hate F i always mess up on that part! the first 2 strings are always stop vibrating and sounds flat and boring! i hateF!!

  • You're not actually that good at guitar! You spend wayyy too much time talking about really simple things and making them complicated...

  • Comment removed

  • What´s the strumming pattern, down down up up down up? Can´t get it to sound properly :(

  • is the tuning different or its smething 2 do with my tuning.anyway nice work man!!!

  • 80's LOL

  • Good video man. Thanks for the help.

  • my Dm don't sound correct. what wrong about it?

  • @orbasang Your probably out of tune.

  • @orbasang-- You are correct --it don't sound sound right---no 'Dm" in song it's "D". I gave a video response but I don't see it. Check out my version if you like--a little freelance and drunken but.....

    --Van

  • juggle, tight rope, unicycle. learn separately, and then combine skills. you're a genius.

  • lol this is the 1st song i learned!! my grandpop is teaching me and hes teaching me all 60's rock lol. i like it though cus im getting what i call "classic rock home grown" which made some of the best guitarits in histry lol

  • @sammysue807

You and your grandpop are 100% correct! Please post some vids and do some showing off!!

    :)

    e

  • @yourguitarsage lol im not very good yet but ive only been playing a few monthes. ill post something soon!!!

  • @sammysue807 thats the best.. im only 20 and i believe that real rock originated in that time!! not only awesome to hear they usually are pretty easy to play

  • LOL "Sorry I meant the 60's" LOL!

  • sorry it my seems to be rude . do u mind put de chords everytime in de detail ?so i can see it ! thanks and sorry

  • its a 60 - ies song

  • yeah, the song is from led belly and but not problem with your mistake. cool lesson but i dont know how you did your F?

  • Did not make a mistake :) Not from Leadbelly either although he did record it. Goes further back than him and there debate over exact date but possibly back as far as 1800's. How 'bout that? But it is one of the "Great Ones" no doubt!

    Rock on ystrianka!

  • @ystrianka The oldest known existing recording is by Appalachian artists Clarence Ashley and Gwen Foster and was made in 1933. Clarence claimed he learned it from his grandfather. Its amazing that this tune has been passed down through the ages. my favorite is Bob dylans rendition.

  • @BrainLaxative lol then bob dylan then the animals

  • thanks a lot Sir!!!!

  • the 80s????? how did u make that mistake!

  • hit from the 80s?

the most popular version of this song was recorded in 1964 by The Animals

  • @thebreezypickel

Yes, exactly...that's why I put the bubble in the vid.

  • HEY do u hit the top string even with your finger on it because i cant tell if u are or are not :) plz reaply

  • it really doesnt matter as long as your thumb is touching it like he showed you. that is something you can worry about later. it wont make a difference either way because it wont make a sound other than a slight thump

  • I can get the strumming... i just think of it as a hit and miss pattern.. :]

  • Van Nistelrooy?

  • I'm only having trouble with the strumming pattern.. And I have to get use to all that chord switching. x__x

  • this doesnt haven anything to do with your guitar playing which is good, but u kinda look like dane cook

  • This helps Thanks!!!

  • thanks great vid helped a lot

  • so whats the order of the chords?? Am-C-D-F-Am----- or something.... can someone please write it down or something.. like the intro and the verse.. for some reason im not being able for putting it all together

  • Am-C-D-Fmaj7-Am-C-E-E-

    Am-C-D-Fmaj7-Am-E-Am-E... repeat

Over and over again until you get tired and run outta verses or the audience gets bored.

    An Fmaj7 is a cheater F, kinda like a C chord. Open e, 1st on B, 2nd on G, 3rd on D (strings)

  • great lesson, megasilver ur wrong, its good thats its long, cuz if ur more of a begginer u need to know all of that stuff.

  • lol ssh please ?

He learn everybody how to play.. This guy is 1 of the best imo, on this weppage.

  • wow i cant wait to put it together! :-]

  • megasilver guy shut your face

cuz he doeas it in 10 mins but he does it propely so its clear to every one

i can bet u wont do it better so if you dont have anything smart to say - keep it to your self!

  • yes but at least he's the only one who doeas it cleary and propely on the youtube!

  • thanks for the lesson:)

  • hi, Who is struming? Thank

  • Thanks for video info, I subbed!

  • The original version is from Van Ronk!

  • i thought that bob dylan´s was the original version, i saw it on tv, but tv is full of bullshit so you never know

  • Its earlist recording was in 1932 by Clarence Tom Ashley.....its arrangement resembles and english ballad "Matty Groves" and many feel this was the "start" of the song, lyrics changed in the US and by the times.....no matter who sings it, its an amazing song :) I still prefer The animals the most though:)

  • it was actually written in the late 1800s but the actual writer is unknown

  • thx for the lesson!

  • You are a GREAT teacher. Keep it up.

  • your guitar is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

  • nice strumming

  • Thanks for the lesson, I learned that song years ago but did not have the strumming right, it sounds so much better now.

  • Dude!!! It's by The Animals!!

    Learn your music!!!

You can't even spell "Led Zeppelin" right!

  • by the animals !

  • Dude! This is the song the broke The Animals.

  • It's an old, old American folk song, recorded by many different musicians.

  • you're right, it's not originally by led zeppelin or by the animals, it's an old song, the first recordings are from the late 30's, nobody knows who wrote it!
