  • Woah that's AMAZING!

  • Hair doesn't collect oil , it produces it

  • @aotearoastyle the oil comes out of the scalp and collects on the hair actually

  • @aotearoastyle Your scalp is what produces the oil you bobo

  • @shumila lol Bobo awesome

  • I am doing a project on how hair adsorbes oil and my experiment showed that a person over the age of 55 adsorbes the most oiL!!! It's great what you do

  • While true we are quite the affect on the planet now consider your death and make sure you are not embalmed with formaldehyde or in a hard wood casket milled by old growth trees in Brazil, laqured with plastic. OR pray you don't get cremated which used millions of BTU's of energy aka Natural gas which also contributes to the green house gas effect. The solution...green burial, make sure you have written in your will to be buried in a shroud at a cemetary that does green burial.

  • Where you obtained the original idea, please respond me.

    RQG(BIOCHEMIST)

  • Little kids are awesome. You do one tiny experiment and they go nutsx) I only wish they didn't have to be learning about these things.

  • America isn't freedom; America is greedy and the most ignorant people on this planet.

  • @mathias921 Calm down there buddy, starting to sound a lil ignorant there yourself eh. There are some very noticeable events outside U.S. control that would make the capitalistic drive of of Wallstreet seem like a bloody cake party on the happy-time express. Give China and great Great Britain their credit too eh, lets not play favorites here now. Either that or maybe keep that naive face-hole of yours closed, frankly either situation works out nicely.

  • @TraumStarke When I say that Americans are ignorant, I mean those who rather make money instead of cleaning up the oil. We in Sweden haven't heard much about the decaster for over two weeks now, could you please tell me if the have complited the cleaning/recovering of all the oil?

    Sry for the inconvenience, /Mathias921

  • @mathias921 Making money? The United States is spending billions on relief methods to get the situation fixed as safely and quickly as possible, however the relief drilling will not be complete for some time now, a year or more. No business loves bad advertisement, and there is no money to be made in letting this atrocity continue...the prolonged media coverage of the BP oil spill is in no way doing the corporation any favors. Stop looking at the situation like a rebellious hipster.

  • @TraumStarke Ok, I was wrong. I tried to be polite, but still you made me look stupid, once again.

  • OMG! :42! That's my salon!

  • wow! is nice*! i love the song & te video! amazing & wonderfull can help! :D Mexico!

  • FUND THIS. FUND THIS. FUND THIS. DONATE. DONATE. DONATE. FUND THIS. FUND THIS. FUND THIS. DONATE. DONATE. DONATE.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well this is a very important discovery. Hair clippings are everywhere. In these cases the federal government should look into this to use these clippings to clean up the oil spill.

  • did you know that research about hair was found by a mexican university named unam ??? yeah its true , i hope they can saved as many animals and biodivesity as we can

  • Where does the oil collected go after the hair is washed? Back to the ocean?

  • @josheek1 i agree. i call us the cock roaches too smart for their own good.

  • I've seen demos of these booms and hair booms soaked up the oil quickly and without effort. I don't think MofT ever claimed the booms floated....look on their website for photos of booms AND floatation devices made into the grids.

  • Hair booms can be used in many ways. Wrapping booms in donated burlap coffee been bags reduces the minimal shedding that does come off of the booms. It's fine to have a little hair or fur come out of the booms as it's just natural fibers going into the ocean full of birds and mammals with fibers anyway. Conventional booms are made with styrofoam and fiberglass and they break up and release dangerous materials into the water, so hair and fur and fleece and feathers are much safer to work with.

  • Hey Great Idea. Im really stoked to see this is happening. I've done testes myself and have found the booms to be successful at absorbing the oil. However they should be tied together and attached to flotation devices to insure there success. They also seem to work better in calm water and even on shore. Def not to be pulled behind boats as they are still somewhat fragile. Unless maybe in burlap sacks.

  • the reason we are not useing the hairbooms is b/c when they tried the small testing here in florida were i lived and seen with my own eyes, that when the hair is left in the water for more then an hour the hair gets heavy and sinks, so now the big problem is people are doing this and its dragging oil to the bottom of the sea, and when they tried dragging the hair with a boat it just dispersed the oil in clumps and didnt collect any oil, so there for it only works in containers like this one lol

  • Great idea, insanely poor execution. Sending bulky waste material all the way across the country to be made into an even more bulky item to be shipped halfway across the country is ridiculous.

Please, set up a facility, even if it is temporary for this oil spill, near the spill. Don't be spending money, time, and fuel transporting disposable stuff to protect the environment.

  • What happens then with the tons of dirty, soaked in oil, contaminated hair mats?

  • What happens then with the tons of dirty, soaked in oil, contaminated hair mats?

  • Dear BP

i do not prefer to be in you're presence, if you invited me to a house warming i would hesitate to go.

    Regards, Matt

  • who neads oil it all about solar power baby

  • interesting - but practical? There are better solutions with specially treated wool - I saw this Glenoit video - looks a lot more promising!

  • Today's wellness in honor of NBD!

  • That's a cool idea!

  • Yeah a giant greasy hairball ...thats the ticket.

  • Why can't you sing something in English............geeeez

  • needparalegal, you don't leave the hair in ocean! but hair won't kill you and everything, oil and the chemicals will... wow, how ignorant can we humans be... so sad :(

  • Is this video for an oil spill in another country? Horrible choice of music.

  • I think I would rather swin in oil than hair.

  • I've read now that the chemical dispersant used by BP is making the hair use ineffective. Could you verify that the hair is actually still working?

  • Great facts, very interesting!

  • Es lebe das Öl, viva los Oilos..

We all could be so happy that this happens not at coast of africa, or southamerica, or antarctica..Im so happy that this horror happens in front of this bitches who use most oil in this world, im so happy that this happens in front of the country which claims to have strongest Industrie and powerfullst military.

Im so happy, because this country will have best chances to solve it.....

    But...what happens NOTHING HAPPENS

  • USA u are a shame for the whole earth...

You are talking how great u are, what good emergency system u have, u claim to have best experts on world for Political industrial, and enviromental problems, you bitches are so arrogant to talk from new world order...

Damm it how can third world land like the USA talk from World Order..

USA should be banned from this planet..

  • @Berndaustria I am from Norway, and we are supposedly the best environmentalists, and they could neither clean up a huge oil spill... Also BP is from England... they are also bringing in experts from around the world. Though yes, there are hair and microbes etc. that would do a better job!! This is sad!

  • @Berndaustria Booo! Yeah we are all the same here, bad people. Please travel some and learn people are people, and big buisness is big buisness.

  • Whoever chose this song for this video has NO TASTE in music! This song is horrible!

  • It's too bad BP would rather pay chemical companies to distribute toxic dispursion chemicals instead of using the 4,000 pounds of hair they asked people to donate then refused to use and or comment as to why they asked for it only to not use it.

  • I love the simplicity and positive message of this.

    Samantha Barton

  • I will shave my pubes and donate them if that will help. See I care about the enviroment!

  • are they using this to clean up the spill???

  • @londonkill i most definately hope so!!

  • I don't think Boycotting BP will really help. If you really want something to be done... get off ya ass and get out there and help yourself. It was an accident.

  • This is interesting but less effective than commercial booms. From an AP story: "Engineers say that a test conducted in February during an oil spill in Texas showed that commercial boom absorbed more oil and less water than hair boom."

  • @carldombek i think the point is that the hair booms are made from renewable resources, not synthetic or limited resources like the commercial booms may be made out of

  • Amazing little demo near the end of this YouTube. I reckon we need to start collecting hair for the next spill off our shores - sadly it will happen again - just a matter of time...

  • We should send hair to the whitehouse. They have qualified people to distribute it. C/O Robert Gibbs.

  • We should shave the haeds of BP. RIght now.

  • @MexicanoINC so true

  • Elect Don Cordell For President.

  • IT'S WONDERFUL, indeed! Thank you for this wonderful video! Folks, cut your hair to save the Gulf! Seriously, I hope that BP watches this video...and Obama, BP's toadie.

  • This song is in a movie with Katherine Zeta Jones. Cute chef movie!!

  • FUCK BP! Boycott for life!

  • Neat idea; didn't have the faintest clue that hair and fur were being recycled like this (makes sense when I think about it in terms of biology)! I hope all salons do this, definitely a big environmental plus! Who'd have thought that the local hairdressers could potentially be saving the environment in the long run for every time an oil spill occurred!

  • What do you all think about Goldman Sachs & yes I said Goldman Sachs DUMPING 40% of their B.P stock just days before this disaster happened intern making a MAJOR profit on this disaster coincidence, EXACTLY!

  • @bulabula1 I think that while that's lucky timing for them, they didn't make profit of the disaster, but just avoided making more losses through it, as the money from the 40% isn't touched anymore by the stock price falling. The remaining 60%, though, are.

  • AH I DUNNO... The best thing and if any one could hear me... or give a crap the need to throw hey over it.. It soaks it up

  • I am trying to do something to help this relief effort as well, using my tarot cards. Please write me a message if you're interested in doing it and giving half of the fees to either birdlife or disaster relief.

  • celebrities are now getting involved with investing money to stop the spill , no one wants to use preventive measures, now they want this opportunities to become heroes. The government might look into their ideas, but that is as far as thy will go to get ideas for their inventions and to avoid embarrassment.

  • what do they do with the mats afterwords? and booms that area saturated with oil?

  • what happened to the kevin costner machine, oil eating mushrooms, kitty litter stuff the reptilians are at it again trying to kill all life on earth

  • It can contaminate the driking water but then as usual like all drinking water it is purified. plus all those so called facts are all lies of a dying movement. Global warming is no longer a concern to those morons who believed it to begin with. YEs im all for preserving the environment im just mad you would use those facts that i have seen a thousend times in global warming discusions.

  • well looks like we can now use the ocean water to drive our cars '(>.<)'

  • This movie is great. I just got my hair cut and i was wondering how it was going to be used.

  • I've notified my mother, a Veterinarian who owns the vet practice AND a groom shop.

  • clean up the oil in the gulf help support this massive effort

  • The current LMRP Cap is not working. Two thirds of the oil is still escaping into the Gulf. The sooner we recognize the failure the sooner we can move on to a better solution. There should be dozens of LMRP Cap designs in process with the best designs being candidates for consideration as a replacement. I can’t understand why we are waiting. If BP had a solution they would have the well sealed by now.

    Here's a better solution - youtube.com/watch?v=FFUGv0iffe0

  • I just put your ad on my website; really good work, thaks.

  • We inflict pain on the Earth, as a separate physical entity, when depriving it of oils and minerals. You think that stuff was put there for our sake only? puh-leeze

  • Just have Robin Williams take a swim threw the gulf...

  • How can I help? I am a hairsylist. I want to be apart of the marine life. Please help me. Even though I didn't do this, I feel responsible for all of this. My soul wants to help.

  • right now bp is using corexit, right? banned in the uk, toxic, benzene, etc. research it people kills everything, all plankton everything

  • Oil eating mushrooms. They're easy to propagate in mega quantities and they self reproduce. They would not only help with the oil spill but with cleaning seas that are already poluted as it is: watch?v=ENPkgAEcDoY

  • or HAY

  • watch?v=svOnzJaegG4

Not only BP, but also Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries Co should pay money for help sea amimals! Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico damaged living animals! Animals dying are so raggedy I can't bear to look at them. I want to tell the companies that why don't they feel any sympathy. Especially, the Hyundai company officially said, the accident was not related to Hyundai in Korea. I was very dissapointed the words. Help animals please!

  • @undertakerRach

The Democratic Congress under the direction of the Obama administration passed an $862 Billion Stimulus package in 2009. As of June 2010, over $400 billion of these monies remain. As of today, the BP oil spill cost $900 million in damage. Obama could have applied 0.3% of unspent stimulus money to help ailing businesses and residents along the Gulf coast. Instead he used his position to bully BP costing them $70 Billion dollars in stocks.

  • Comment removed

  • @Twilightifyable

Obama can't do anything with stimulus money- it is controlled by Congress. You obviously want to blame Democrats, when it was Republican loopholes and deregulation that lead to this disaster, by creating a climate in which the risks of an oil spill don't have financial repercussions to the company, so no technology to prevent or stop a spill is created. Don't blame government for your problems when you continuously vote for LESS GOVERNMENT. You can't have it both ways!

  • @jlswilton,

    .

I blame both. It's a fallacy to think that fascism is opposite of communism, socialism, Maoism. It's the same thing. The worst mass murderers in the history of the world were Hitler, Mao, Stalin and Lenin. Karl Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto the most influential political document in the world. It leads to nothing but dictators. Teachers need to be fired. They can be rehired based on skill. Blacklist the Marxists and those wanting a Mexican Revolt on US Soil.

  • @jlswilton,

Obama did a lot of things with the $862 Billion stimulus. He didn't even spend $400 billion of it. I wonder if he's going to use it to help Democrats get re-elected. What's wrong with helping the people on the Gulf Coast and get reimbursed for it by BP?

  • Remarkable effort! I really hope our worldwide "leaders" can pay attention to this alternatives and find real solutions for the good of our Mother Nature.

  • Music is: "Via Con Me" by Paolo Conte

  • @matteroftrust i love this song we learned about it in my German class

  • i love this song.. what is the name of song?? artist??

  • "2:19"

  • hair and hay could clean it

  • Seems like a fun project but requires impractical amounts of hair (how much is needed to soak up 1000 gallons?)

At Recovery(dot)Windenberger(dot)com, read news about Adria Brown's Golden Retriever oil spill cleanup method, which will be adopted by America I think. Patent says: "For spills between 100,000 and 1,000,000 gallons, somewhere on the order of between 60,000 and 600,000 cubic feet of entire corn cobs might by required"

  • The reality is that the universe is showing us that we are not in control of anything, we are so sick that the gold fever has mutated our DNA and we just cannot or are not willing to see that what we are doing(taking oil from where it belongs) is a wrong thing. That we have been able to run off of water since the 40's but did not. The air polution, ocean polution, soil polution. You'd think that we are trying to kill ourselves. We are obese, starved of love, but run to d poison repeatedly

  • Our product C.I.Agent® instantly turns oil into a NON-TOXIC rubber-like mass that floats on water. When it has solidified oil, it can be reused in various industrial applications, it is not wasteful!

It is already being used by the government and BP in the coastline protection effort on Dauhpin Island, Alabama.

We need to start using C.I.Agent® on a mass scale to tackle this oil spill. Please help us share our revolutionary technology with the world. Check our channel and spread our videos!

  • I heard that the hair booms sink. Why not put used beverage bottles (which float) in the stockings with the hair? Lots of sodas and water consumed daily. Rarely are the bottles reused. Keep up the good work. Craig

  • @ChrisRJ

    Nothing. I'm not smart enough.

I just think those two solutions coming from those two steryotypes is funny. I'm not saying they won't work.

Conservative: I know, we throw dat der hay on it un it'll soak id all up!

Liberal: I go to a WONDERFUL hair salon that will clean that oil spill right up!

  • This is funny. Conservatives think up hay as the solution and liberals come up with hair.

  • i am not quite sure how to propose this to my hair stylist, they;d look at me like i have two heads

  • Oil spills always make me sad.

  • BOYCOTT BP!!

  • @HUMANSAREBENEATHME

How? I'm in Canada. How do I know where to fill up? I'm already avoiding Esso.

  • @HUMANSAREBENEATHME its mostly dick cheneys companies fault Haliburton. Haliburton was cementing it a day prior to the disaster.

  • @HUMANSAREBENEATHME BRILLIANT!!! Let's put out of business the company that has to bank roll the clean-up and compensate the people that are out of work because of the spill!

  • @AstroZombie79 and they should be. But after we have sucked the company dry for resources to clean up the oil disaster. It'll teach other companies to spend some pocket change for an extra security measure, and the workers to expect it from their boss.

  • Is this actually being done in the Gulf of Mexico? I haven't seen any news stories about this except for the first one showing the hair booms.

  • It's more like 10,000 barrels a day. We as the humankind seem to love destroying the planet that created us, it's absolutely horrible. We should have cut off our dependency on oil years ago but noo that would be too hard for people to grasp. Electric cars were revolutionary in the 90's until the government shot it down because it would damage their profits with the oil companies and corporate scumbags. I hope we take this as a lesson learned and start to make some real changes.

  • @sassygirl345 First of all it's BP's oil gusher...does that thing look like a leak to you? Second of all why would someone inside BP do this? This will be (at least it should be) the downfall of their company.

  • @sassygirl345 - Inside job? Please explain... just curious what you mean. I do not understand how anybody could possibly benefit from this oil spill. Except maybe clean up crews who will not have trouble finding work for awhile.

  • @SimoneRobinHill The companies making the equipment being used to attempt to plug the leak are making money hand over fist. The people actually helping in the clean up are unpaid volunteers.

  • @cleeselover The clean up equipment manufacturers would have to cause the original accident in order for the disaster to be an "inside job". BP screwed up and as a result lost tons of oil which means they lost tons of money pocketing the drilling expenses minus profits AND NOW all this damage control. When you break your bones, an orthopedic doctor earns a paycheck fixing you up. Is that proof of an inside job involving the same doctor assaulting his patients just to have arms and legs to mend?

  • @SimoneRobinHill I didn't mean to indicate that it was an inside job. I don't think it was deliberate, just the result of poor planning and inability to foresee the consequences. I was responding to: "I do not understand how anybody could possibly benefit from this oil spill." Somebody must be paying the cleanup equipment manufacturers (Halliburton? I don't know.) and installers for their efforts to build and install caps.

  • These booms have been found to soak to much water and become waterlogged and sink.

  • that is what the people did here in the Philippines, when a ship sunk in the ocean. they collect hairs and use to soak up the oil spilled in the ocean. and they use coconut husk. it also helps to soak up the oil..

  • @jhovyjhov yup

  • STOP AT 2:19 the baby seal is ADORABLE<3 =)

  • @bbraeton YAY< ITS so cute its all black and shinny, with a beautiful coat of oil on its cute lil ole head. Thank god no seals live in the gulf, However, I used to swim with Dolphins @ shell Island Panama City, They are in Grave danger now.

  • @bbraeton I KNOW! Its impossible to get any cuter that!!! Seriously... its like that baby seal has a superpower. The mere sight of his cute awesomeness make everything that is wrong with the world seem like its going to be alright. Ha ha.

  • That's a good idea, but this oil spill is so huge that it would take an incredible amount of this stuff to soak it up.

  • fuck you, spammers

  • I hope BP allows the hair booms to be used.

  • This video was uploaded before the oil rig explosion... did y'all predict this catastrophe?

  • smart idea

  • They have stopped the oil leak! > 5b414f0a.placepictures(DOT)com

  • @gam3377 This guy fucks nappy headed hoes.

  • @gam337no they didnt you fuck

  • Interesting. They still need to clamp and seal it, but this will minimize collateral damage.

We need to do something about the long haul.

I'm thinking of getting solar panels and two batteries (one back up in case the primary fails). It'd be pretty cool to run this computer off of solar power.

I could use a few more similar set-ups for my kitchen appliances and some CFL's; be completely self-reliant.

  • Anyway, very creative idea. I liked this vid.

  • Awesome idea! My dog needs a summer cut, & so do I! Let's do it...pitch in, all of us! We CAN make a difference!! :)

  • They have stoped the oil leak! Check it out.

  • Had hair down to my waist. Just cut it to my chin. :)

  • fuck no i love my hair

  • bp will take care of it .. they're gonna import a whole bunch of polar bears and clean the mess in no time...then move them north and call them black bears..... I dont trust them...it's too easy..

  • can it clean up 100 million gallons ;-(

  • Great video. We all need to do our part to make this world a safe world

  • GENIUS.

I love that there is a RESONABLE solution to practically everything!

  • How can one send in hair or help out?

  • ITs a pity I cut my hair all off before all this, I'd gladly cut it now, but I dont have much!

  • Is this before or after they set the water on fire?
