Ross and Del Monaco are electrifying in this scene....Vighi is pretty tame but their singing is excellent and this is just as Norma ought to be sung. I never cared for Sutherland and Caballe's Normas - far too lifeless....Ross has just the right amount of passion and fire.....truly the successor to Callas
@Elisabetta611 The nut matches the hammer as far i'm concerned! Norma?! Treason, forbidden love, b@#$%rd children, filicide and then self immolation - they could literally start chewing the scenery and i wouldn't care..This is great! Can't believe i've never heard of Elinor Ross till now, the voice is tremendous
I don't like at all how Del Monaco behaves hmself. Ok, he's a "divo", but finally it's so childish to hold the note at any price longer than the others.
And, regarding the fact that I'm very sceptic about his singing, I particularly dislike this performance. Sometimes it's just very difficult to distinguish where he's just screaming and where he's delivering a dramatic performance (which he does or, at least, intends).
As for Ross, I'm happy to have found at last an alternative to Callas' Norma
@Pathetikos Ross is fantastic, but you should also listen to the Verrett, Caballe (in Orange with Vickers) Deutekom and Gencer Normas....they are all great! And in many ways superior to the ones with Callas and Serafin (mainly because Serafin takes tempi that are too slow).
I presume you mean Del Monaco's exit. He also holds the last note longer than anyone else - classic Diva (or in this case Divo) behaviour. He also knows how to hold (and swirl) a cape with the best of them. But for singing, great as he is, I am afraid the unappreciated Elinor Ross comes out on top.
jajaaj i totally agree with you Del monaco was a Divo love him so classic and great voice love it and yes he always hold notes so long and loud always........
They're baaaaaaaaaack!!!! Hooray! Thank you, coloraturafan2 - you have no idea how terrible we all felt - it was like a big hole was spreading on Youtube! You were the first one to post this fabulous singer and bring her to my attention. This is a very wonderful treat in the musical world.

I said it once and I'll say it again: how rude for Del Monaco to told the last note the longest! It proved nothing but his vanity.

Love when Ross points to Del Monaco at the end of the trio while hitting those big high notes @ 9:16
