I've noticed you didn't use hydrogen peroxide. I've seen so many variations, I'm just trying to figure out what is most used. One guy used a single drop of grapefruit seed extract and baking soda, nothing else. I'm going to try a couple of different ways, but I was just curious why you don't use hydrogen peroxide.
It depends on the source. Some people prefer virgin coconut oil, or no glycerine at all. You can also make some with just bentonite clay, sea salt, backing soda and peppermint. I do my best at keeping natural, but I know I'll never please everyone ;)
The Egyptians (Kemites) made toothpaste from powdered pumice stone and strong wine vinegar that they brushed onto a chew stick. This was much different from the early Roman toothpaste that was made from human URINE(!), which the Romans also used as a mouth wash. In fact, Roman physicians around 100 AD claimed that brushing w/ urine whitened teeth and fixed them more firmly in the sockets. wealthy Roman women paid dearly for foreign urine, especially Portuguese urine. so much for roman greatness
Fluoride Yea! One glass of water contains as much Fluoride as your typical Fluoride tooth paste ,,,, Drink 5 glasses of water and you IQ automatically goes down 10 pionts. OMG FlurideActionNetwork
It might be important to note to use aluminum free baking soda..as most baking soda on the market these day unless otherwise noted has aluminum in it. (:
Powdered Horse tail is another ingredient that is good to put into your toothpaste. It's naturally sweet and it has silica which is good for your teeth.
Another point to mention: If you're going to use glycerine, make sure to use vegetable glycerine. (the stuff in the pharmacy is pharmaceutical glycerine which is from animal and/or petroleum-based oils)
Another alternative may be used instead of glycerin. Anyone have a suggestion? But there are two sides to the glycerine story. From my understanding, it's acid that attacks teeth, not glycerin. Glycerin has several natural anti-bacterial properties, and remineralizing occurs through a healthy diet and lifestyle, and only a tiny, partial bit on whether your teeth can "breathe." Perhaps for the anti-glycerine people...the next on my list will be a glycerine FREE toothpaste! ;)
Thanks honeycakes, this is very informative, I may give it a try :)

Where did you get your Stevia? I'm trying to find it in a non-processed form. The organic brands are all processed/bleached
