I never knew there were that much lightning going on in Earth every second! There is a ton more than that on the Earth, because we are just looking at one side of the Earth. This is so cool!
@ItalianBandit yeah.... but its is spread over a very large area... if you were down there you would have experienced it as a typical thunderstorm....
@ItalianBandit its actually quite common, thats how much lightning will strike in a storm system. think about how high up they are and the true distance between each strike on the surface
take into consideration the scale you're looking at. those flashes you see are tens or not even hundred of kilometres wide so you can't tell exactly where on Earth the lightning is exactly striking now can you? and secondly, lightning does strike many times to high structures like tv and cell phone towers, as mentioned here by others
A whole lotta activity is right. Some of those flashing lights seem to be coming from the same source - very strange. Obviously it's probably lightning but maybe not. Anyway, this is very intriguing film.
Yes, they are coming from the same source: the storm. This appears to be a very large storm system. Also, if there is one area with high wind shear, it can cause several flashes that appear to come from the same spot (viewed from this far away of course.)

Lightning most certainly does strike the same place twice. Look at towers and poles, happens ALL the time. That's really a silly myth.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
lightning NEVER strikes twice at the same place fooks, not to mention a 1000 times what happens here...
mafketeltje34 3 years ago
That's just an old myth. Lightning certainly can strike in the same place more than once. Many videos show it happening.
