The rising was a stupid waste of life and pearse was a stupid idealist who led children to their death.These men had no mandate from the people , only the foolishness of Maxwell gave Sinn Féin the way to power .If we had just gone along and waited for Home Rule we might have eventually got a united independent Irelan.Now that will never happen.What a fucking pity

No conquest is justifiable. The killing of innocent civilians ( by all sides) is not justifiable. I just think its ironic that Ireland today consumes almost the exact same culture as England, Scotland, and Wales. Same tv channels, same (crappy) tabloids, same pop music, same obsession with soccer. This is not the Ireland that the men of 1916 would recognise. But that's how it is because most people in Britain and Ireland share the same basic values and attitudes. I'm an Irish atheist.
