  • Hilarious

  • I love it !!!!

  • Scientists in West Berlin have recently discovered the so called gene that makes people gay and are hailing the discovery as it will "lead to a cure for sure" says Hans Verdemeldt, the lead scientist!

  • @begoneyoubum can they make straight people gay too then? totally dont want to be straight would rather be gay!

  • @begoneyoubum - homosexuality comes from a number of genes and other conditions, not one gene.

  • @Muppephile

    Speculation.

  • @KapStuf - nope. If you want a video explaining it, I can show you.

  • @Muppephile

I've seen several such videos. I've also seen the 'research' they're based on.

Interesting you say homosexuality has genetic causes, not sexuality in general. A revealing slip.

  • @KapStuf In a discussion about blue eyes, if someone were to say 'blue eyes have genetic causes' wouldn't it be rather petty to point out that eye colour in general has genetic causes? It just shouldn't have to be spelled out, because it's so obvious. I would wonder about the thought process of the person who thought it wasn't obvious, not the person making the statement.

  • @optifog In the context of the discussion, Muppetphile was treating homosexuality as a generic abberation, not a genetic variation. The *point* however, is that the research 'proving' a genetic root of sexual orientation is scanty and unreliable.

The comparison with eye colour is suspect because (a) eye colour runs in families much more than orientation and (b) people don't change their eye colour, wheras they do develop sexual tastes over time.

  • @KapStuf I agree that genes sometimes leading to homosexuality (it seems to me their effects depend on epigenetic factors) are nowhere near as predictive as eye colour genes, however the point of the analogy was that I thought you might be jumping to conclusions re: Muppephile's attitude towards homosexuality and those of others who think genes make a difference, as saying it's genetic without mentioning other orientations doesn't necessarily mean thinking they're less in need of explanation.

  • soooooo gay
