In both instances the fielders had totally controlled the motion/path of the ball, it was firmly in their grip before they made contact with the ground. Ponting & Clarke couldn't stop falling on the ground...probably due to GRAVITY. Gavaskar should look at the decision made on harbhajan's hattrick ball, that defines cheating
if the ball touches the surface, it has in the laws of cricket bounced. Same logic applies if the ball has touched the boundary rope. Ponting's 'catch' was definitley not out and Gavaskar is correct here. Also Clarkes 'catch' is not out precisely described by Gavaskar. Gavaskar was close to tears in that video! His arguments are a farcical, if the ball touches the surface PRIOR to the fielder controlling the ball then it is not a catch. In both instances the fielders had totally controlled the motion/path of the ball, it was firmly in their grip before they made contact with the ground. Ponting & Clarke couldn't stop falling on the ground...probably due to GRAVITY. Gavaskar should look at the decision made on harbhajan's hattrick ball, that defines cheating

Ponting and Clarke (Clarke is ambi-dexterous) are virtually the two best fielders in the world and calling them cheaters who claim catches that arent catches is just so untrue. By Gavaskar's definition those are not catches, unfortunately for him Australians will continue to claim these as catches because they clearly are.
