The way that incredible guitar distortion runs on from the strum at the end of the verse on several occasions in this song is something unique to TFF. It's another example of thier ability to create these ultra modern spacey pads in so many songs like Gas Giants and going all the way back to Listen and entwined in many others.
xox - this song sums it up; realms of unbelievableness; life & manuevering gracefully thru existence 4 love passion truth & freedom... playing this 4 Slim Shady (my personal soulmate of choice if i ever had one - no stage bumps or behives on me - it's a totally sobre ride - eurphic with the Reiki, mmmeditation & passion, ya know cos i still lust after u all these lives later - some things just don't ever change from 1 life in2 the next - the moment of awakening's most "alive" - near death sfx)
Yup. Roland is an ab SOUL ute Musical genius. I separated the words because. Roland made music with muy soul and good taste. I saw Roland on the RATKOS tour in Portland,OR.. Celia. If you happen to be reading this. I'm sorry for not taking you. My only regret of the 90's.
tears for fears has always been and forever shall be my favorite band even before i've heard this song or the others they have made and by they i mean roland. such power such talent and the name says it all tears for fears. he gave us some of his fears and we gave him some of our tears. those who dont like this its not that they dont have good taste but they lack the power from within to understand. perhaps they can not feel or express there true emotion as he can and hold it in all inside
More amazing to me than the wonderful music and lyrics is that for a songwriter who is so reclusive, he's spread his whole life story before us..the angst, the longing, love, heartbreak and the hope, yet always so melodic and so beautiful. What a gift he's given all of us. If I could inscribe "Thank You Roland' on every grain of sand in every desert on earth, I'd still need to double that...and add a few grains more besides : )
Tears for Fears are one of my favorite 80's bands.... their music tells all my own stories i find... when i cannot write or just feel as tho my own writing is inadequate to tell my own journies i find myself often listening to Tears for Fears... playing this one for EMinem... god bless the man of all my once unfathomable dreams ... all sorted out (past lives) XOOXOXOXOXOXOOX
Wow, there seems to be a whole below-the-radar body of work from Tears for Fears. Not unlike the Alan Parsons Project of which I was a moderate contemporary fan and a much bigger YouTube historical fan. I know I sort of grown when I hear some of the more popular APP tunes like "Eye in the Sky" and "Time". Do you guys feel the same way about "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout" ?
Did they do this stuff after they lost their 80s dance popularity?
@Baritone45 They were never "dance popular" as you call them. Listen to any of their cd's and you find such deep rich vocals and lyrics like no other band on earth. I have seen them in concert twice. Once in 1990, they broke up the band in 1992. I just saw them a month ago. Still unbelievable.
@bryanlynne Bryan, I am so pleasantly surprised to learn that Tears for Fears had more music than the three songs I heard from them. They certainly were VERY popular in the dance clubs, as some of the most mainstream music they'd play, and I love those songs (Everybody Wants ..., Shout, Head over Heels). However, the rest of their stuff is like new music to me because I've never heard ANY of it.
@Baritone45 I know how you feel. I still haven't heard "songs from the big chair" or "sarturnine and the lunatic" or their first album before they became tears for fears. I'm looking forward to them all.
@reggie46404 It is great to see new younger fans like you - I'm 47 and been listening to TFF since i was 23- seen them live twice. Be sure to get SFTBC, i the days with brilliant Ian Stanley, and Manny on drums, William on sax. Their original lineup. It's a masterpiece. Saturnine is important to hear, because it contains a lot of wonderful B-sides like Sea Song and Schrodinger's Cat.
@csrogc63 I'm actually an old tears for fears fan. I have been listening to them since Shout and EBWTRTW. I just have never heard the albums that I have mentioned cause I never bothered to buy them.I bought the two album's Roland released under the name tears for fears and I have a lot of singles and their greatest hits CD.
@bryanlynne I want to see these guys so bad live. They are my favorite rock band period. I wish they would come to Chicago or Indianapolis. I hope to see them before they decide to call it quits. Roland really is a musical genius.Godbless this band.
@reggie46404 I'm on twitter with Curt. They kept doing concerts in Europe and the West Coast. I kept begging him to come to the East Coast. I saw them in Atlanta. that was one of the cities that I asked him to come to Charlotte or Atlanta. I live in SC. I was on the floor six rows back. I got to two CD's autographed by Curt. They were touring with Michael Wainwright. Check out my channel for some songs from the tour. Woman in Chains is a must listen. I hope you enjoy it.
@Baritone45 I thjink I'm qualified to answer, a huge fan, went to see them last yr, live,,awesome.. they split up in the early 90's and continued on their own, Roland continued with the
tff moniker. and made a couple albums under TFF and then did "Raoul and the kings of spain" under his own name. Its awesome! IF you google their Discography, you'll find it all easily.. you won't be sorry!!
@ruthreyes77 Yeah it is an opinion but I have to agree with you. I want to hear Roland's solo album. Do you know how I can get it cause I can't download it.
@TFFgeek It is funny to me because the two albums Roland did without Kurt were great and just as good as the ones with Kurt. I still haven't heard "Songs from the Big Chair." It gives me something to look forward to.
I've just always assumed that the four leaf clover lyrics were a reference to family members. A better rule is "Never assume" when it comes to TFF lyrics... But we all do.
Any more info on this affair? Like who it was with? Who is Linda? Love to see that interview if anyone has the link on it. he says so little about his personal life it is really interesting when he does. Great talent!
good point. The title song and Sketches of Pain are on other topics. I think Sorry, Falling Down, Secrets, Love is God's Mistake, Me&My Big Ideas, those are about the affair.
Love the RKS album. I love the lyric "someone came and stole my shoes", then I read a BBC interview where he says that a pair of missing shoes are how his affair was discovered.
Are you sure you're not confused? I doubt he would admit to an afair in public. He is so private. In any case, I would love to read that interview if it exists (couldn't find it).
i love you Roland
