I do not eat any animal products and having studied anthropology, I know that most cultures do not tolerate "unnecessary" cruelty with people or animals. Given the US and other countries do not always follow standards for ethical slaughter, but at least they exist and are usually followed. This is not the same way pork or beef is slaughtered. Any one of these violations in this video and the slaughterhouse would lose everything if it was exposed. In Korea, meat dogs are slaughtered the same way as pogs and cows-by electrocution. The stores that prepare and sell dog meat are regularly inspected by local authorities, and everything is done according to the animal protection laws.

They might have been bred as companion, hunting tool and last resort food when the winter hits hard.
