Every Shot matters! I watched this as inspiration going into the Michigan High School State finals. I'll be going to try and be the first from my school to place.

@morgothaod There are so many factors that are different in this. There is an unbelievable amount of pressure on these guys that you and I can't even imagine. The oil is completely different than a house shot, and what they are working for is a lot more than what you work for on any match.
Your scores would be so much lower if you did this.

Had Norm not suffered the stone eight-pin he would've won anyway. The fussy foreigner just accommodated justice. Notice how his wife and kids were fist-bumping each other when he was striking, but wouldn't look at him after he missed the ten-pin.
After that ring ten in 6th and that stone eight in the eighth frame, Norm was due something going his way to win the game. The miss he had could have easily been a spare but he didn't get a break in that frame either...
mika was throwing that last spare ball too hard, you can 't tell when he release it. But no excuse for mika, at this level you have to pick up such spare, lesson learn for mika.
I'm shocked that Koivuniemi missed the 10 pin. Duke is still one of the greatest ever and he deserved it. Great athletes never give up until the fat lady says it's over. Congrats to Duke.
Norm Duke once again showing his class and why he is IMO the best bowler on tour. After getting his 2nd US Open and having the wave of emotions go over him he still had the wherewithal to collect himself and show his concern for his friend and fellow bowler. Never once have I seen Norm let any emotion control him, whether it be pressure or joy or sorrow. He always finds a way to make the best of every situation he's in.

@Cheesetasetsgood duke was able to finish strong and put that much needed pressure on him. who knows what would have happened if mika took the extra second to recollect himself after that ringing 10 pin, he probably would have got that spare to seal the deal, who knows lol.

I wish the PBA showed the speed, rev rate, and board played after each shot. Like they do in international tournaments. I like how the WTM shows the actually lines of each shot on top of another.
Mika deserved this title! norm duke already has 2 lol but norm did amazing on making those pressure strikes. I hope the mika wins the player of the year award cause he deserves it all the way!
Talk about amazing sportsmanship from Duke. He put his win aside and put his sympathy towards Mika. Its amazing when you see experienced players who've won Major tournaments before putting the feelings of their opponent before their own. I felt like Duke was getting emotional because he was putting himself in Mika's shoes. Great bowler, great attitude, and a great asset to the PBA. Mika would have done the same. Its always nice to see the big top guys being so friendly to eachother.
If you know anyone that speaks finish, ask them to translate what Mika says after he gets up off the approach after missing the 10. Don't let's ur kids be around for the translation.
I feel bad for Mika. Such a tough way to lose a tournament. But I would've liked to have seen him at least shake Norm's hand or something. Especially since Norm showed nothing but true class at the end.
Also, Mika's daughter is pretty damn good looking.
Player of the year for Mika as a consolation prize. That's a great consolation but the US Open would've been great to add to the season. I've watched this a lot of times and I can't believe the conclusion of the match. Mika has been bowling great all season. I think he made the right move going from Brunswick back to Ebonite International.
Big deal. I miss the 10 pin to the right in the channel all the time. Ha! Poor Mika, but happy for Norm. Besides, Mika has all that cash from the TOC and will probably be player of the year.
I have nothing againced Mika. He's a great bowler and this season proves it. But, growing up watching the PBA in the early to mid 90's leaves me rooting for the Dukes, WRW's, Webers... I just can't help it. So when he left the 10, as bad as it sounds, I was hoping he'd miss it. Duke is one of my favorites. But when he actually DID miss it... My attitude changed. I felt horrible for wishing he'd miss it and felt sorry for him. It made for kind of a bitter sweet win for duke for sure...
I've crossed with Mika twice at pro-ams, and he was great. Warm, talkative, friendly guy who's funny as hell with a dry wit. I never really cared for him before the first pro-am experience, but I certainly am a fan now.
When we talked about bowling, he didn't talk down to me like he certainly could have. I felt like I was chatting with a (really, really good) bowler I'd been in league with for years.
Mika as a bowler is fantastic, but from what I've heard from fellow bowlers and friends is that he has no class. One of my best girl bowling friends said she bowled in a pro-am with him and that he was a complete dick. I wanted Duke to win, but any fellow bowler, or person with human feelings for that matter, would hate to see this. You go through your entire career making spares and to do that is heartbreaking. I've watched this at least 20 times and still am in shock. My heart goes out to Mika
@Graywacz18 hmm that's weird. I bowled with him at a pro-am, and he was extremely nice. He seems pretty reserved at first, but he's actually very nice and friendly (or at least he was to me).
@bstnrdsxfrk That's just what I heard. I can't go into details or anything. Maybe he was having a bad week when my friend was there, I don't know, but she absolutely hates him cuz of it, haha.
And no Mika is not cold. Have been around him a couple times, he's just quiet. A nice humble guy. Just doesnt say a whole lot. Tall guy too, probable 6'4 or 6'5" : )
Duke is my favorite bowler so I was heppy to see him win, but my heart goes out to Mika. What a tough loss due to a very out of character spare shot. He will be there again though. He is one of the greatest.
A huge congratulations to norm Duke. Way to bowl every frame. This is why you never give up until the end. Never know what can happen. Congrats on this win and I hope to see you on TV winning many more to top off your illustrious career!!

I think Mika is a great bowlier, not really fond of his manerisms, but hey, to each their own. I'm a Duke fan and I'm glad he won. However, I still felt bad for Mika, cause all of us who bowls has some idea what that feels like. You have to give it to Norm, for putting the pressure on Mika. Overall pretty good match.

throughout the matches....i ve been wondering one thing...how hard is it shooting spares up there? From the start of the season I see so many miss...i think i ve seen the most number of open frames this season on TV so far compared to previous 3-4 seasons...partially it has got something to do with powerful ball and players leaving ugly splits..but so many misses even on single pin...what is it that is causing so much pressure? there is seriously a long list who missed with many big names..
@xuan8839 I work on the PBA tour part time. I've bowled for fun on many of their patterns. Scorpion, Cheetah, Chameleon, and the US Open pattern. The US Open pattern is absolutely the most difficult oil pattern I ever thrown a ball on. The margin of error is almost nil. You can take any league bowler out there, average good or house pro, put them on this pattern, and they will shoot 30 pins under their average. It will absolutely drive you nuts bowling on it.
@rmx01indiana driving nuts? that s an excuse for us but not the competitors...yes difficult pattern will give more splits...but that is not an excuse for any competitors to go up to the lanes and miss single pin spare or chop spares...at that level you are expected to have that mental strength to be least affected by any breaks and stay cool,just execute your plans precisely. If you cant do that, you are basically not mentally strong enough.I guess its bcoz I learn all these through army days..
After MK rolled the shot at the 10 pin, you could tell it was sliding to far right & then fell into the channel. I was sitting at the foul line on Duke's chair side 1st row & looked straight out to see MK fall flat then looked right at Norm's face as he stared at the entire left side bleachers. It seemed as if time has stopped for about a half a minute as both men were frozen in position. If you watch the playback as the camera zooms in on Duke's face, the tears begin running down from both eyes

This finish was unreal! I thought for sure watching it on television that a mark and 8 pins would be a given for him. Missing the 10 pin like that was a shock! As soon as he threw the ball you knew it was going to miss it.
Duke is a classy guy. I'll never forget when Randy Pedersen left a solid 8 pin to lose the TPC to Ernie Schlegel. Schlegal ran around the whole bowling center rubbing it it Randy's face...

I've crossed with Mika twice at pro-ams, and he was great. Warm, talkative, friendly guy who's funny as hell with a dry wit. I never really cared for him before the first pro-am experience, but I certainly am a fan now.
When we talked about bowling, he didn't talk down to me like he certainly could have. I felt like I was chatting with a (really, really good) bowler I'd been in league with for years.

Mika as a bowler is fantastic, but from what I've heard from fellow bowlers and friends is that he has no class. One of my best girl bowling friends said she bowled in a pro-am with him and that he was a complete dick. I wanted Duke to win, but any fellow bowler, or person with human feelings for that matter, would hate to see this. You go through your entire career making spares and to do that is heartbreaking. I've watched this at least 20 times and still am in shock. My heart goes out to Mika

@Graywacz18 hmm that's weird. I bowled with him at a pro-am, and he was extremely nice. He seems pretty reserved at first, but he's actually very nice and friendly (or at least he was to me).

@bstnrdsxfrk That's just what I heard. I can't go into details or anything. Maybe he was having a bad week when my friend was there, I don't know, but she absolutely hates him cuz of it, haha.

And no Mika is not cold. Have been around him a couple times, he's just quiet. A nice humble guy. Just doesnt say a whole lot. Tall guy too, probable 6'4 or 6'5" : )

Duke is my favorite bowler so I was heppy to see him win, but my heart goes out to Mika. What a tough loss due to a very out of character spare shot. He will be there again though. He is one of the greatest.
A huge congratulations to norm Duke. Way to bowl every frame. This is why you never give up until the end. Never know what can happen. Congrats on this win and I hope to see you on TV winning many more to top off your illustrious career!!

LOL!!! Same here samiro. I just had to scroll back up quickly. But when the tenth frame came, I pretty much knew what the outcome would be.
I think Mika is a great bowlier, not really fond of his manerisms, but hey, to each their own. I'm a Duke fan and I'm glad he won. However, I still felt bad for Mika, cause all of us who bowls has some idea what that feels like. You have to give it to Norm, for putting the pressure on Mika. Overall pretty good match.

I accidentally glanced at a comment when this was first published and when it came to the 10th frame I had a horrible feeling about what was gonna happen. Great game, that's why you bowl to the very end!

I watched this at least 4-5 times! A real shocker! Even more than what Bill did against Shafer and Chris's solid 8 and 214-215 to Haugen.Like my favorite bowler (Norm Duke) I'm speechless.I'm really glad that he won though.I like Mika as a bowler,but I've heard that he is really cold as a person and if the roles have reversed,he would have talked shitty stuff to Duke.Like a person below stated "Serves him right".And,probably that is a compensation after Duke's 296-280 loss a few years ago!

If I were him,I'd run away from cameras probably for being that pissed! I haven't been in HIS position,but in many similar.And I've lost many tournaments because of errors like that.

@tisho91 You said that if he (Mika) had won in the same way Norm did that he would be rubbing it in Norm's face. Like I said before, NO ONE in their right mind would be "proud" to win that way but in the end Norm did win and he handled it in a very geniune manner.

throughout the matches....i ve been wondering one thing...how hard is it shooting spares up there? From the start of the season I see so many miss...i think i ve seen the most number of open frames this season on TV so far compared to previous 3-4 seasons...partially it has got something to do with powerful ball and players leaving ugly splits..but so many misses even on single pin...what is it that is causing so much pressure? there is seriously a long list who missed with many big names..

@xuan8839 I work on the PBA tour part time. I've bowled for fun on many of their patterns. Scorpion, Cheetah, Chameleon, and the US Open pattern. The US Open pattern is absolutely the most difficult oil pattern I ever thrown a ball on. The margin of error is almost nil. You can take any league bowler out there, average good or house pro, put them on this pattern, and they will shoot 30 pins under their average. It will absolutely drive you nuts bowling on it.

@rmx01indiana driving nuts? that s an excuse for us but not the competitors...yes difficult pattern will give more splits...but that is not an excuse for any competitors to go up to the lanes and miss single pin spare or chop spares...at that level you are expected to have that mental strength to be least affected by any breaks and stay cool,just execute your plans precisely. If you cant do that, you are basically not mentally strong enough.I guess its bcoz I learn all these through army days..

After MK rolled the shot at the 10 pin, you could tell it was sliding to far right & then fell into the channel. I was sitting at the foul line on Duke's chair side 1st row & looked straight out to see MK fall flat then looked right at Norm's face as he stared at the entire left side bleachers. It seemed as if time has stopped for about a half a minute as both men were frozen in position. If you watch the playback as the camera zooms in on Duke's face, the tears begin running down from both eyes

This finish was unreal! I thought for sure watching it on television that a mark and 8 pins would be a given for him. Missing the 10 pin like that was a shock! As soon as he threw the ball you knew it was going to miss it.

Duke is a classy guy. I'll never forget when Randy Pedersen left a solid 8 pin to lose the TPC to Ernie Schlegel. Schlegal ran around the whole bowling center rubbing it it Randy's face...

I think for title matches commets should be blocked. I didn't read any comments this time and just clicked on fullscreen but I've had other shows ruined by spoilers.

But seriously, according to my friend who's obsessed with Finland, there's a couple of words in Finnish that translate to the F-Bomb in English. One of those words is "Perkele" which literally means "Devil". I think he might've said about a bunch of the P word.
