you are talking about the "Alawites" they branched out of shi'ism in around 800-900 AD and are mainly centered in Syria. they believe that Ali (radiya allahu 3nh) should have been the messenger of islam instead of mohammed pbuh.

Because we have thousands of ancient manuscripts from many different sources which all say practically the same thing, practically the same canon even. God promised that he would preserve his word, the Bible has been changed a little through translation but to say it is "distorted" is an all out lie. You know nothing of Bible translations. The New Testament was never even written in Aramaic, parts of the Old Testament were written in Aramaic but the New Testament was only ever written in Greek. The reason the Catholic Bible is different from the protestant Bible is because they are based on the two different manuscripts. Most Protestant Bibles are based on the Textus Receptus (Recieved Text) which is of the Byzantine style text while the Catholic Bibles are based on Jeromes Latin Vulgate.
