Who gives a crap about what the person wears on this video ? The important point of the entire video is to show the talent in playing the piece at hand, we can never please absolutely everyone with no matter what we do anyways.
You have really inspired me today Cambry. You play most of my dream pieces. How long have you been playing? I am from west africa, Ghana and have been playing classical piano about 15 years. Live in new york now. Funny how you get so many negative comments only cos you are black. its shame. U are a great pianist in the making. Let no one put u down. This is what you love, so keep doing it ! sending you some love! Take care bro
amazing....... This is the best version i've ever heard... the only interpretation that comes close to this is Francis Plante who heard Chopin himself play, and Plante was also a student of Liszt! So yeah, bravo!!!!! definately subscribing! i bet you Rach the Rachmaninoff no 2!!!!
Ehhh how is there even an argument about something that silly.. Just close your eyes and pretend he is wearing a tux if you don't like it. It should be about the music, right? And the music is beautiful, this is my favorite version of my favorite chopin. Welllllll done :]
to oliiiver ... dont you think his attire suits this piece perfectly ^ ^? it would be a shame to see such a peaceful and beautiful piece of work being performed in full concert attire (of course it wouldnt be wrong) but seeing him with this clothes just gives me a feeling of even further relaxation from this beautifully played etude .. fter all music is music nothing more nothing less and what you wear should'nt matter.. it would matter if people start getting precarious about what people wear
wow. excellent. nice tempo, slow & stable. nice bringing out the of the notes with changes and played with respect to the music. beautiful, plain & simple. thanks for posting!
Very very lovely! I've listened to six or eight other performances of this in the past couple of days, and this is the only one that strikes me as being just right.
The tempo is PERFECT, the phrasing beautiful and the melodic line signs with great sensitivity just as it should.
I know that this is more technically demanding than it sounds.
There are counter-melodies in the tenor voice where more emphasis might benefit this excellent performance, but it's very satisfying as it is.
I wonder how many people dress like penguins when they are recording themselves for fun during a break at school, I guess those people wouldn't be American because if they were, they'd know better.
Now that's where you think you are correct, making an incredibly stupid comment on my video and then calling this a "battle". Maybe if you spent more time being productive, like learning to play an instrument, you wouldn't be that bored to make dumb comments on my videos. If this is about patriotism, then you already lost lol, no one knows or cares where you are from.
im sorry but i have to agree wtih oliiiver. when i went to carnegie hall once, there was an american string quartet and a piano player. all of them were dressed in baggy jeans and a t-shirt. in russia this wasent allowd

cambry is an outstanding pianist, but none has ever beaten Rubinstein playing this etude.. Personally, Rubinstein's version of this etude is much better, no offense to Cambry

Beautiful musicality... Very very "singing" melodic line and natural breath. Careful! it seems you don't play the score at the end (one extra "big arpeggio" pattern and one "small arpeggio" lacking).
you doing great ithing you can give more music and you can do the best and the best ilove the music who came form the heart and irespect evry pianist who can thing with each notes and send massegs by his finger thanks friend and thanks chopin .
Almost agree with Allegrissimo below, that it is one of your 3 best here at Youtube; and obliged my listening to all your other work too. For this Etude 25:1, probably it is the most beautiful version I have ever heard. Please visit my 50 Favourites.
I'll tell you the truth... when I heard the first opening tempo, I was like wow this is super slow.... slowest I ever heard....
But then after listening to the first two measures I was amazed at the care that you put into the shaping and dynamics of the melody and not all the other notes!
An etude is a piece written for an instrument with the intention of emphasizing and forcing the musician to improve a certain technical aspect of their playing. Chopin's etudes accomplish this while still being able to stand alone as part of the pianist's concert repertoire.
I actually play all of chopin's etudes op 10 and 25. I don't know if you're purposely trying to make the melody halting, but it comes across stinted. And, while i hate people who play over fast, i must say you played this a bit slow. you might still be working out the fingering or something. Overall a good performance though. Just too halted and slow for my tastes. try it faster, and bring out the melody even more while mellowing out the arpegio notes.
Thanks for advice that was actually constructive. Lots of people do not know what that means. I play it at this speed because I believe it should be played at this speed, I feel that the piece should breathe more. I know the piece blindfolded so i'm not actually working out fingering.
ok, well maybe it isn't the speed, but the stintedness of it. the melodie is carried in the 4th or 5th finger in this pieace and ... I know you're not lizt or anything but if you could linger on the note a bit longer to tie it in to the next one, I think it'd be better. might be impossible, though.
call me crazy but, i play for myself. I know i'm weird but so be it. I missed going on tour as a kid, wanted to be a concert pianist. my mother didn't even want me to play, and would chase me away from the piano from practicing as a kid. [ can you say scarred for life ]
Yeah I see what you mean, that's too bad but I think that if you have anything to show the community, why not show it? Would be an incredible feat for a user to upload all of the etudes to Youtube, show your mom she was wrong!
shakaama, your telling him to play a certain way then when he gives you advice you say no you play for yourself. why can't you just enjoy music? Don't you think Cambry plays for himself? Everyone plays for themselves, and in which it can benefit other people.
I'm sorry but I don't get any emotion out of this performance at all. You look disinterested when playing. There was little dynamics and so many beautiful bits where completely missed. Sure you can play the notes but if don't move you, how can they move anyone else. I suggest you listen to Ashkenazy and preferably his early recording from the '50s.
Hahaha lol stupid idiot, you thought that you could comment on this vid and I would not notice because I have a video on the front page, the reason you don't get any emotion out of this performance is probably just because you're a loser that just doesn't know music, or you don't know how to operate your own volume, get a hearing aid old man!
Your wrong. There is great emotion in this performance. It is also tempered by a sober mind that has tempered it. The romantic and some would say over played school of the first half of the last century is no longer in vogue. Read and listen to what is going on today. Ashkenazy was great, but great old school.
Congratulations dude, You truly get to the audience with this performance of chopin aeolian etude. I have to say i watch a previous performance of this work played by Cambry, but it doesn´t impressed me much, but this...almost perfect. I would give him five stars.

What does Op mean? Whats the whole concept?
raflim 4 years ago
Op ---> Opus
mclarenemma 4 years ago
Opus is Latin for "work" and so a composer's works are listed by Opus number. Chopin's Op.25 is a collection of 12 etudes or "studies".
gravicembalo 4 years ago
Then whats the whole concept about etudes?
raflim 4 years ago
An etude is a piece written for an instrument with the intention of emphasizing and forcing the musician to improve a certain technical aspect of their playing. Chopin's etudes accomplish this while still being able to stand alone as part of the pianist's concert repertoire.
