The 1909-S VDB go from $650 in Good Condition to $12,000 in MS-70. These are the dealer buying prices. Now what the dealers are paying for run from $450 on Good Condition to $7,500 in MS-70. Got both the Red and Blue Handbook of U.S. coins, Coins4Cheese? The Red ones are the dealer selling prices. The Blue ones are the dealer buying prices. When I started my cent collection, I first did what you're doing, then started to get the key dates, 1931-S and 1914-D. Then got the big one, 1909-S VDB.
I got two of the 1909-S VDB cents, one in F-12 condition and the other MS-64. Both were purchased in 1987, the one in fine condition at $218, now going for $575. The other was purchased at $503.50. Now it is going for $1,500. Do you have that key date 1909-S VDB in your collection?
@Coins4Cheese It won't be easy to both find one and to buy one. Dealers that have them are selling them $650-$700 minimum for ones in Good (G-4) condition. Less than 500,000 were minted. Other key dates are the 1914-D and 1931-S. One I got that 1909-VDB, it completed my Lincoln set at that time which was 1987.
Well, your Lincoln set is coming along nicely! Keep up the good work with collecting and making these vids!
My Lincoln set is coming along too. I got the last to folders in the series complete (1941-1974 & 1975-date). Now comes the fun folder, 1909-1940! That one is like 10% full. Lots of harder dates and keys and semi-keys in that folder. AKA, the empty holes!
I've found some great stuff in rolls too. Including a 1911 and a 1917-D. Those are the oldest Wheats I've found in rolls.
You can't find proof in circulation. A Proof means it has never been released into the public, and has never been touched by human hands. A proof coin would be in a case. That is not proof.
