yes, vista sucks (not as bad as it did when it was first released, but sucks on the less), but linux sucks about 10 times harder. at least i can use software and play games without have to emulate WINDOWS. besides, windows 7 beats all. not a singe issue i've had with it. everything works flawlessly. it's fast, it's reliable, it's compatible. what else could u want from an operating system?

Linux is ok, just don't leave a usb drive in your computer when you turn it off and back on. It'll crash your entire OS, causing you to lose everything you've had saved.

And really, Compiz is no big deal. Yeah, it looks nice, but usually users aren't staring at their desktop cube, but doing work, or gaming.

Also, XP is far more stable than most Linux distros (especially Ubuntu, which is based off Debian's unstable releases)

the thing that linux users don't get - you cant use the BEST games, and ALL KINDS of BEST available applications for work and free time... I sometimes install linux on my experimental box, but i would NEVER use it as a serious work for gaming platform, because its not. I don't need no crappy photoshop alternatives and no wine (they actually install representation of windows framework inside linux, LOL) to get games going, pff. Only for servers thrown in dark room or education about OS. Thats all

Well don't get me wrong im not hating on Linux. I like the concept of GNU/Linux very much. I have just recently installed Ubuntu Intrepid on my laptop. I still use Vista primarily via the dual boot. Compiz-Fusion is impressive and has alot of features that Vista cannot even attempt to compare to. While I was making the decision on whether or not to install Ubuntu I did alot of reading and looking up videos. I was really disappointed that every video all they could feature was the cube.

As an operating system I agree Linux is better, however I keep Vista for my DJ gigs - I haven't found any stable DJ software with driver support for linux and I'm no techie to work on one myself :-) If there was a way I could run Virtual DJ, use my video out in a projector, run MIDI with my BCD3000 unit and use the PreSonus Inspire as a soundcard all through linux then I'd dump windows, but I can't risk stability in live situations :-(

I'm running Linux Mint Daryna, which has compiz-fusion included. You just need to manipulate the C-F Manager to get different effects.

The Linux distributions out there keep getting better, and better. I run Linux mint Dayna which lets you do those cool 3D Desktop effects "out-of-the-box! Actually off the single CD install disk.

And Yes, M$ Vi$ta does indeed suck. The guys in Redmond blew it with Vi$ta. To prove the point they keep releasing XP up-dates, and PC makers still ship with XP. Cool!

I use Vista x64 and Debian x64 and love them both. Saying either sucks is very closed minded. This video also only demonstrates Beryl or Compiz Fusion, not really a good demonstration of Linux at all, only eye candy.

It's hard to take an exciting video of my Windows servers being up for 200 days without any downtime VS. my Linux servers being up for 250 to 300 I suppose. Still, Linux has a lot more to offer than just composing window managers.

Microsoft makes money, it is a commercial organisation. Red Hat, Novell etc also make money but nobody calls them Nove££ or anything ;) There's too much software prejudice in this world.

The only thing I have that won't run on Vista is an old logitech webcam, simply because logitech refuse to release vista drivers for it. I have never had any software problems and I suspect that you have not used Vista long enough to have any experience of this.

It's true that games like Doom 3 run on Linux (eventually) and Wine (eugh) can be used for most of the rest, but a lot of commercial games won't work properly on Linux.

I did use Vi$ta long enough to know that this was not what I wanted to run as an OS. Hey, I'm not a M$ hater, but was really disappointed. XP seems to be the preferred M$ version.

Gaming is something where Linux does fail, but there are enough Linux 3D games to keep me entertained. Besides that I'm looking @ buying a Game Box that will run Linux. It can be done.

I do it with a Notebook, and love the experience of recording everything off my Notebook. No video recorders here, but use recordMyDesktop.

I am beginning to think that the problem is when I change the original .ogg/Vorbis file to .AVI. Google doesn't accept the open source format.

But - Linux blows Vi$ta out of the water.

Microsoft (M$) has a lot to worry about. When non-professional computer users like me are doing so many amazing things with Linux THEY need to collect information about what people are doing.

Every one is ahead of the "curve" regarding "personal computing" versus M$.

Run Linux! Run Free! Run those Open Source applications.

Linux has an open source solution for everything!

Try a Google for Tux Paint. This will probably help you.

I am actually running Linux Mint Cassandra. Linux Mint is based off of UBUNTU just like UBUNTU is based off of Debian.

The advantage of Linux Mint is the 3D Desktop and audio / video codecs "right-out-of-the-box".

I am familiar with Mac4Lin, but haven't used it yet. I wasn't able to view the jpgs that you mention. Try to post those URLs again.
