  • BOTH JO AND PATTI BRING BACK THE SAME WONDERFUL MEMORIESOF MY YOUTH AND MY SAILOR ...

  • Great version of a great song!!!!!!!

  • I've heard five or six versions of this song, and enjoy them all. A beautiful melody with a timeless, intelligent lyric.

  • fantastic any way you hear it! thank you!

  • Love this, thanks.

  • Well, I went and listened to Jo Staffard, The Duprees and others on the recommendadation of posts found here. I'm younger than most of the people here, but still cannot get over the control and outright beauty of Patti Page's voice. For mine, this is simply the only version to listen to, but that's what makes music great - listen to what you like.

  • @micktube64 how do you know you are younger than everybody else?

  • @aghnifrid Not everybody else, just most of the people that would be listening to this song. And by visiting your channel I can see that I'm 13 years younger than you - but I'm catching up fast so watch out! Best wishes,

  • Big thanks to the uploader - just fantastic mate. I'm a cranky old Bstrd who doesn't "get" todays music, and I believe it's cos the message is rubbish. I can listen to this magical tune, let the Beatles send me some place - or listen to someone who wants to kill someone, preferrably cops, or rape and kill some "bitch" This is surely deranging young minds, let's have some censorship. The greatest songs I've heard are born of love - this new stuff is born of hate. Listen here for positive music.

  • <3!!!!!

  • absolutely LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • This is the music of romance for me....when women wore dresses and men smiled. Life was so simple then, or so it seems from here 2010!

  • i love this song! those were the days when songs have real melodies. : )

  • This song is truly GREAT. I feel whoever will sing this especially those HEAVENLY singers of the 50's and 60's (the golden eras of music ) deserve the highest accolades and admiration. ?They all belong to me??? Those people who upload songs of this kind are worthy to receive our sincere THANK YOU AND MORE THANK YOU.

  • My mother had the old album 78 record back in the 60's. When I was a little girl I would always play Patti Page's album. This brings me back good memories. Thank you very much for having on youtube. :) RIP mom...

  • smith

  • How nice it is to hear the oldies. They make a mockery of the 'new age' singers. Des.

  • This is the first time I've heard Patti Page's version. Thank you, 'konidolfine'.

I still like Jo's version...but yes, I guess her version is more..."statuesque", with a grander orchestra sound, and Patti's is a little closer and more intimate...

Now to listen to 'The Duprees'

  • Jo Stafford is one of my favorite vocalists, but so far I like Patti's version of this song best.. :)

  • In Cherry Hill, NJ.

    Tell me something different.

  • A 1952 song.........which I had been hearing from our small radio......when I was just a kid...........listening to it while playing..........alone ( :

  • Pee Wee Herman's version that he sang to his bicycle is besterest!!

  • thank u for putting this on here

  • ..I think this is the best version, softly Patti voice, sincronize perfectly with music... I love Patti voice......

  • Very smooth and peaceful voice!

    Love it, Patti!!

  • Love this version by Patti..but nobody does it better than Jo Stafford!!

  • Her phrasing seems to be strongly influenced by Billie Holiday.

  • Una voz sensual y apasionada la de esta Patti Page. Lo hace muy bien con este inolvidable " You belong to me". Qué maravilla de mujer !!!!

  • @documusic1930

Allí se hecho pocos cantatrices con la voz cantando que estaba recientemente lleno de la pasión como ella.

  • My vote for best version goes to The Duprees. Patti Page version is great, too. I like Patti's version better than Jo Stafford's.

  • @TNewDirection4us

The singing of Jo Stafford is also wonderful.

However, the element that is very friendly, and sounds in the mind is included in it by patti more.

  • KaiserPCS, she seems to be saying:

See the pyramids around the Nile

    Watch the sun rise

ON A tropic isle.. I'm not a native speaker, but it sounds like that to my ears...

  • @MishaG9 She clear sings "along the Nile" not "around the Nile".

  • Well, the text you published 6 months ago says: "around the Nile" and I just copied it without realizing this. But I was mainly referring to this:

    Watch the sun rise

    From the tropic isle

She doesn't seem to be saying "FROM", but "ON", no?

  • Memorable to the max!

  • First recorded by Sue Thompson. Rediscovered by Joni James and recorded in her first session, for Sharp Records in Chicago. One of the songwriters borrowed the acetate and as far as know brought it to Mitch Miller, who gave it to Jo Stafford. Then covered quickly by Patti Page and then Dean Martin. Rerecorded by Joni at Abbey Road in London in 1960 with "I Need You Now," another song she lost (to Eddie Fisher) along with two remakes of hits, one of which she subsequently recorded AGAIN.

  • My, oh My! How I love Patti's voice. Her album Hush Hush, sweet Charlotte has carried me through some rough times. She is something else! I don't think she has ever sung a bad note!

  • such a sweet song

  • Try Kate Rusby's version - different, dreamy, a little dark, and I think still true to the idea in this love song.

  • I just realize that i became a fan of Patti.

Her voice is amazing and it sounds so romantic.

I just hope that somebody in our time can sing as she did by using old mic and sound effects.

  • great singer, great song

  • See the pyramids around the Nile Watch the sun rise From the tropic isle Just remember darling All the while You belong to me See the market place In old Algiers Send me photographs and souvenirs Just remember When a dream appears You belong to me
  • I`ve always loved the Patsy Cline version but having heard this for the first time am very impressed.

  • Japanese writing is really amamzing!

  • When this song was popular, both Jo Stafford and Patti Page were in the Top 10 best sellers.....although Jo reached number 1 and Patti number 4....Patti's flip side also sold over 2 million copies. That song was I WENT TO YOUR WEDDING.

  • what are you saying:D

  • Basically they're saying that Jo Stafford's version is the absolute best, but there is too much of standard jazz in the voice and arrangement. Patti Page's version is lighter and easier to listen to.

  • well, whatever THEY say, i've listened to both and i prefer Patti's her voice is so clear and the inflections are just perfect
