u jump like that in my dojo and we sweep you out...no true martial artists will jump and remove their grounded positions... this is insulting! I am a sensei of Goju-Ryu! thats all i have to say.
Just continue sir following Calasanz 's videos and you learn about who is Calasanz, but at the same time you will improve your knoledge and skill. Thanks for your Comment
this is exaggerated breakdown of gojukai kihon kata taikyoku jodan ni, first four steps
left sanchin jodan age u'ke, zenkutsu jodan tsuki, step bacl/turn behind repeat right side.. then step back left foot to turm down centre of embusen - where this demo ends..
Um...wow...I have never heard of this kata name, "taikioko." Not sure that these words even carry any real meaning in Japanese or Okinawan, and I speak Japanese, AND a bit of Okinawan at that. Any idea on a supposed translation???
I believe this refers to taikyoku jodan/chudan/gedan.
These are kata especially for beginners, and were designed by gichin and yoshitaka funakoshi in the 30's... however the kata in the video does not look like the taikyoku i've learned...
Thanks for the reply. In my system we have 4 basic forms called by a similar name: "Taichi-Jo Chu Ge, Chu Keri Ge, Chu Shutou Ge, and Ko Uke." These forms are not Okinawan, but rather adaptations from my teacher's trainng in the Chinese systems in Taiwan. AND...NO, the things on this video, no where near any legit kata I've seen...
I too study Goju Ryu; my specific system is Meibukan, from Okinawa, Japan. The forms listed above are the newer forms in my system and were created by the founder of my family of Goju, Yagi Dai Sensei: my teacher's teacher.
Supposedly, taikyoku (not taikioko) translates to "first cause". There are 5 versions of this kata. Taikyoku shodan, nidan, sandan, yondan, and godan.
I do Okinawan goju-ryu, not goju-kai, so I am not 100% sure about the taikyoku katas since they are actually Japanese Goju-kai katas created by Yamaguchi, but I think there are only 3, Jodan chudan and Gedan, Top, middle and lower. Correct me if I am wrong.
Just in case anybody mis-understand my comment, clarification, these calasanz katas are neither Goju-ryu or Goju-kai. They are his own version of real katas, performed badly by him.
Not for sure myself, but I believe that Yamaguchi Sensei created his Taikyoku kata from the "Tai Chi" kata Series that he learned from Yagi Dai Sensei's Meibukan system: ther are 4 seperate Tai Chi forms: Jo, Chu, Ge, and Ko Uke in the series. Basic forms teaching: distance, timing, positioning, conditioning, etc.
this is exaggerated version of first 4 steps of jodan ni [jodan age u'ke in sanchin, jodan tsuki in zenkutsu] stops at turn back up centre line of embusen..
This is karete training... the same like on other days... and this is not taikioko-jodan... this isnt even kata, so dont do the shame for this sport puting tags on training and they are quite poor if i match them with my trains

Well, there's good karate, and there is bad karate. I think which this is, is clearly evident from the video.

I see some broken wrists coming. The basics of punching are not yet apparent in most of these students.
