I feel that this might simply be hindered by some form of distraction; maybe the reading of sheet music or not knowing the song 'by heart'. Suggestion would be; try to visualize what the writer was feeling when he or she wrote their thoughts on to that paper. I would like to know you and I could show you some tricky things on the guitar to catch these secrets which Carole King put in her piano-arrangement. Still Kings version is the best. Excellent. a piece of advice tho. Don't discount the importance of your guitar. Your playing is fine, simple & supports your exc. fresh vocals. But that large guitar needs more force to get a pleasing tone out, it sounds too "plinky" played soft. You need an instrument that speaks fully when played soft. There are many great inexpensive instruments - find a guitar-savvy friend to take you shopping. a cedar-topped guitar is probably best...then you'll have it all!

I'm a guitar player and her guitar sounds FINE. She's playing it according to the song. You don't want the guitar to overpower the song. It's there to help compliment itIf you notice..........when she sings softer she plays a little softer when she sings louder the guitar gets a little louder.
