@TalmidimAlex There are about 1000 pairs of headphones I would use at the gym before these. Even if these are your "main headphones", I'd buy a cheap $20-50 pair for the gym.
The need for an amplifier with the higher impedance does not relate to efficiency, it is a consequence of Ohm's law. High impedance headphones must be driven with a larger voltage (but draw less current) in order for them to receive rated power. iPods, cell phones, and other portable devices that operate from batteries typically have a limited output voltage swing. Hence the need for the low impedance versions for portable devices.
would a cheap Fiio e6 amp do anything to the bass for these headphones?
I've noticed that compared to my, XB500s and my V-moda Crossfade LP, the bass is almost not there... With an amp will i recieve better bass or just higher volume.
@tytebyte I have not tried or heard anyone talking specifically about the DT770s and a e6 amp, so I can not say with certainty. However, even with an amp, I think from a pure bass standpoint, it would be difficult to top your XB500's. The DT770's are bass emphasized, but even with an improved source I would not look for it to top the XB500's in pure bass impact. I would give the DT770's the nod in the bass control department though.
@bestheadphonereview I'm not sure if im just adjusting to these headphones... but i kinda accidentally fell asleep with them on, and when i woke up for some reason the bass seems incredible. Maybe they just needed some burn-in.
But hey, thanks for the reply. And what kind of an effect does your amp have on these headphones (aside from louder volume).
@SITIMPE The DT770's have several models on the internet and they have varied from year to year. Your best bet is to contact the retailer you are looking to buy them from or Beyer directly to see what they are selling. There is even a dt770 "m" model now as well. Needless to say this makes it difficult for me to tell you what yours would have simply because I can't make the assumption it will be the same.
@SITIMPE Neither the ear-cup diameter or driver diameter are listed on the current updated model's product page either. Beyer's contact info. for this model can be found on the prodcut page though and I'm sure they could help you from there. I would link it for you, but YouTube does not allow this. If you have further questions, post on my site's question/answer page and I can create links there. I can tell you in general the 770's are true around-the-ear headphones and are deep fitting too.
@MultiJohnnyBravo In my opinion, no. You will however receive better sound quality in most every other part of the frequency response with the DT770's over the XB500's.
@MultiJohnnyBravo The DT770's have more bass in my opinion. The DT770 and Ultrasone 580's are hard to compare as both have very different sound signatures. Each has it's own "main use" sweet spot.
@BlGWORM It's hard to make direct comparisons because I have not heard both and I have not read someone directly comparing the two either. However, after looking at the frequency response graphs at headroom they seem pretty comparable in regards to the bass alone with perhaps a slight edge to the beats studio. If this does not satisfy you, I would head over the head-fi forums and post this same question. Someone there will have heard both of these models.
nice interview. very informational. but can i throw out a bit of criticism and say add a little enthusiasm to your interview. also it would be nice if you had the headphones in your hands and put them on and stuff..
again, great interview. just imo was pretty boring. we need some enthusiasm and have the headphones on you.
will sweat damage the velvet in anyway? because Im planning on listening to these while at the gym
