Glen, love your work! When I listen to your compositions, I can't help but believe that you're proving to us that the recorder is a strong, versatile, and currently valid instrument. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you for the question! My rough answer: Play around, make up melodies, see what you like and write it down. Obsess. Obsess some more. Whistle it in the shower and write down what your mind naturally wants it to do. Study baroque musical structure- it's a blueprint for the roadmap. Hire your friends and have a concert. Continue to obsess.
i had a wooden recorder quite a few years ago... i think i was about 10 years old, im 17 now. i never knew how 2 play, n one i leant it 2 sum1, n they returned it snapped in half. i dnt care at the time, but suddenly now i do. how much r they usually worth?
Hi (I feel like I responded to this, but don't see anything listed here...). Quality levels vary, so it could be anywhere from $30 up to $150 or more if it was not handmade, which I suspect.
Oh my goodness, this is amazing! It makes me wish I'd continued with the recorder but I haven't played in years. I'm glad that someone of your calibre is writing such beautiful music for this much maligned instrument. Hope you don't mind if I rip the music so I can listen to it on my iPod-- I've favourited so if anyone hears it and asks I can point them straight to you! Kudos to all your performers as well.
Thank you so much for the nice words. Of course I have no objection if you want to have access to the music wherever you are. I'm thrilled you dig it! Sorry for the long delay in responding.
I stress how much I am amazed at your genius for this absolutely exceptionally beautiful piece of music is. I'm sure if one of the great composers (Bach, Mozart) were to hear it they would be just as impressed. You are so tallented in being able to write this magnificent quality of music. I hope to see your name on a record label one day, I would certainly buy your music. Exceptional, Wonderful not to mention beyond beautiful. 5*****
My god! I've just realized! You've written it! oh gosh! It's so perfect, you're a Genius! You're showing people that Recorders are really wonderful instruments! It's wonderful! I need to play it with some of my friends! Please, how can I found a Sheet for it?
Im am but 14, but with a group of firends, we will all learn the recorder and play some music and you music is soo awomse, we hope 1 day to be as good as you, after a few years we might write some of our own music :D
All I can say (besides thanks!!) is get those recorders and start making stuff up! Why wait? If you start now (I sort of started around 14) and you find it fun, you will have a nice developed style in a few years. If you don't now how to notate music yet, just record it while messing around - you'll be surprised at the great stuff you come up with. That's pretty much how I do it!
Bravo!! Excellent performance and good against the continuo. I have to practise now for my exam on Alto recorder in13 days time and you are the inspiration I needed. Thanks so much.
two weeks ago, I also joined a recorder here in germany... and for curiosity reasons I checked for glen shannon - and I am suprised to hear and see this marvolous flute play live!!!!!! we are currently working on his jazzy prelude and fugue... simply great!!!!! thank you so much!

This really is quite exceptional and sounds very much like one of Bach's Recorder Concerto's.

Now we had the performance, but we did not make a video of it. However, we carry on with the jazzy things for recorder.
