@ptgirl21 it's a tape adapter it just plugs into any cd mp3 iPod player and the digital audio signal is converted to a analogue signal through the tape head just google mp3 cassette adapter you should find it easy as for the tapes to a mp3 I have no idea how this person has done it but hay there a genius
Do you still have the MP3s of the Lullaby collection form the "Come Dream With Me Tonight" tape? I loved the songs as a kid and I'd like to put them on my iPod.
Here in USA we have this kiddie pizza chain , Chuck E Cheese's... that old faded Teddy Ruxpin reminds me of those mechanical dummies that sing and dance on the stage over at the Chuck E Cheeses.... hahaha.... BTW they have purty good pizza but the staff won't let me on the kidz rides i dunno why
I'm trying to understand the PPM track used to control Teddy Ruxpin. Does anyone have a sample of the left channel track. I'm really interested in the frequency originally used, pulse width and gap width. I'm currently using python and PyAudiere to play wav data generated and stored in an array.
@infotek I did an experiment at my college a few years ago. If I can remember we hooked up 2 signal generators onto another box. I think the box was some sort of modulator. It mixed the two signal waves together and at a certain frequency on the 2 signal generators I got exactly the same wave form as the modulated wave on the Teddy Ruxpin tapes. I wanted to take my Bear to college and plug him into the modulating box but the college module was finished before I could do it. DAMNIT.
@andymate2006 That sounds like you had DTMF setup. Do you have a copy of the PPM track that generates motion that I can analyze in Audacity? I am making a program that allows you to control Teddy Ruxpin interactively. I have two tapes on order but it will take a week, and my setup is occupying my kitchen table (laptop, oscope, teddy, soldering iron)...
@andymate2006 What city are you in? I'm in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, my mother just recently took my BackPack Teddy Ruxpin to The Doll House in Camberwell because I was very careless and brok part of his mouth, perhaps they cou'd repair this Teddy Ruxpin. I'm sure though I never had one, this version of Teddy Ruxpin was available in Australia in the 80's but you see so few of them on eBay.
@Lachlant1984 hey cool, I think live near you... I'm in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne & I went to school in Camberwell! Thanks for the Doll House tip, i have a few problems with some WOW talkers too. ;)
Are you using one of those CD to tape adaptors you'd use in a car, or did you actually install a connector into the plastic panel in the back of Teddy Ruxpin to connect the iPod? This is quite interesting, what audio format are you using to record the tapes?
What audio format did you record the audio in? Does the MP3 compressiion affect the PPM data track that controls the movement? In what way did you modify Teddy Ruxpin? I've seen some MP3 players that are designed to look like tapes, indeed they fit into a standard tape deck and play through it, I'd love to see someone using one of those with Teddy Ruxpin.
can you do a video of playing regular music thru TR? like rap music or whatever. I know his mouth wont move but I wanna see TR rapping. play whatever music you want.
Thanks for commenting on my little experiment. If you have any Teddy Ruxpin tapes plug in a cassette deck into your sound card and record the tape onto your computer then save it as an MP3.
@andymate2006 I tried this but when I play the MP3, I can hear the pulse modulation buzzing away & I get no animations on Teddy!? (Confused) Please help me!
wow I just thought of this today after seeing teddy ruxpin...really go for it! I think it'd be a good idea...just create a new character. The ipod...whatever it is...goes into the toy...complete cloth...no plastic parts to cover the ipod/scratch little kiddies
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! give us that mp3

This is just sad, man! Looks like Teddy's old and in a home, mumbling and gumming the air, reminiscing of old times

Nice work! Your Teddy looks "fluffier" than my version.

@blueoctopede I know I need to get him repaired and cleaned. It's hard to find someone that will do that in Australia.
